Anyone who has driven through the small town of Valley Washington knows that Hwy 231 goes straight through the middle of town and the speed limit is 35mph even past the school and a blind corner at the My Way Machine Shop. There are no posted 20mph School Speed Limit signs on one entire west side of the school.
This is a dangerous speed for pedestrians and needs to be lowered. My concern: motorists speed by at more than 35mph and do not slow down for the pedestrians let alone any animals. Some even burn their tires on the road especially in the evenings.
Something has to be done about this. Children live here too.
We, the undersigned, request the Steven's County Department of Traffic and Safety reduce the speed limit on Hwy 321, through the town of Valley Washington from 35mph to 25mph and place School Speed Limit signs of 20mph up on the west side of the School.
This is for the safety of residents and visitors of the town. It will help insure the safety of our children.
