Building a Better Batavia is a community group created to educate and inform residents of Batavia on the proposed community center planned for the intersection of Island Avenue and Houston Street.

Currently the sight is blighted and does not fit within the historic character of Batavia.

This is a collaborative effort between the City of Batavia, Preferred Development, McDonalds and the Batavia Park District. The plan is to move McDonalds to a better location on the same site it is now and build a 62,000 square foot development to include a community center, parking and some retail space. All of this would be done WITHOUT changing the current tax rate of Batavia property owners.

Some of the facilities the community center would have include:

- six lane indoor lap pool
- fully equipped exercise room
- dance and fitness studio
- elevated walking/jogging track
- day care, party rooms and multi-purpose rooms

This development would bring close to 200 new parking spaces to downtown and 5,000 square feet of new retail. Moving McDonald's to the northwest corner of Wilson Street and Island Avenue will also help eliminate some of the current traffic problems.

YES, I support Building a Better Batavia and would like the City to support the development of a new community center with increased parking and retail opportunities at the intersection of Island Avenue and Houston Street.

As the gateway to our community this facility would be a welcome addition to Batavia.
