The Loaiza-Gaviria family left Colombia ten years ago due to the many social and political problems that still affect the country and its citizens to the date. They were threatened and extortioned by two terrorist groups: the FARC and the AUC. They had to flee Colombia when the father, Jose Guillermo, was shot in the left thigh on a second attempt by the FARC to kill him.

They made a Refugee Claim and it was denied, so they filed for a Judicial Review to the Federal Court. Unfortunately, the opportunity to appeal the decision on the refugee claim was also denied.

They have accustomed well to the Canadian culture and environment. They are always eager to volunteer, help anyone in need, cooperate at work, or at any activity in the community where they could be of assistance. They have good intentions to study and prepare themselves professionally to be better contributors in the development of their Canadian community.

We, the undersigned, support the Loaiza-Gaviria family's desire to remain in Canada. We would fear for their lives if they were forced to return to Colombia, especially Laura Vanessa because she would not know how to survive in a country with such violence.

We highly recommend them because we believe they are kind, friendly, hard-working, and honest. They have manifested to be people of good values and sincere respect towards others. We, therefore, believe they demonstrate good Canadian citizenship traits and feel they would be good Canadian citizens.

We are proud that they are our friends and community members.
