Target:
Dr. Blattner, President of Caldwell College
Region:
United States of America

Caldwell College has limited graduation admission for years and is unwilling to change. As of the Fall semester of 2009, graduation of 2010 was supposed to be moved to another location making graduation open to more guest. However, things have changed. The College is able to use money, they supposedly do not have to improve the property and other programs but can not use money to improve our graduation.

This petition is to have a graduation that the graduates will be proud of. This is our day, so let's have it the way we want. Let our voices be heard.

Please help by signing and adding your ideas for graduation. It is not too late to change graduation.

We, the graduating Class of 2010 of Caldwell College are opposed to the policy of four commencement tickets per graduate and ask that the policy be amended.

Many of us would not have been able to reach graduation day without the assistance of our extended families. We have been helped with our tuition, childcare, and encouragement.

We were able to focus on our academics and maintain our grades because of the support of our families. Now as graduation approaches we are being told that we must decide who can be invited to the actual graduation. Family members that are asked to watch a video feed of the ceremony in the Alumni Theatre or in the Dining Hall are slighted. It is extremely difficult position to place a graduate in on such an important day.

We understand that the space in the Newman Center Gym is limited. We are offering these alternatives:

1. Move the commencement to another location such as West Essex High School, a local community center or church.

2. Hold the commencement outside – on lawns of the Library and Werner Hall or in the plaza between the Newman and Student Centers.

3. Limit the number of faculty and staff in attendance.

4. Ask students that are not using their tickets to turn them in to be redistributed.

Caldwell College is open to all, and that should be the mantra of our commencement ceremony, “All Are Welcome.” It is extremely hard for a graduate to tell their siblings that they cannot attend the ceremony. Many of us are the first person in our family to be receiving a college degree and it is a momentous occasion for the entire family. Graduation Day is our day. It is not a day to be remembering with regret because we could not share it with all our loved ones.

We are asking our president and administration to consider amending the current commencement ticket policy. The Class of 2010 is looking forward to a successful future as proud alumni of Caldwell College with fond memories of our final moments as students.

We the undersigned members of the Class of 2010, call on the Administration to improve graduation.
