On Thursday 3/25/10 at 4:15 a.m. a driver was critically injured when speeding through the bend at the Alameda Ave & Main St. intersection. The car lost control and collided with a pickup truck. The impact was so great, the truck was pushed on top of the car parked directly behind.

Approximately 3 months ago, another driver was critically injured on this same bend. His car sideswiped a parked pick up truck then hit the car in front pushing it 15 feet. The driver's car stopped close to 100 feet from this spot.

These are two examples of many accidents that have occurred in the late hours at this intersection over the past 3 years. People drive too fast for this area sometimes in excess of 100 mph as was the case 3/25. Drivers may also be falling asleep at the wheel.

The residents of Burbank, California request the City of Burbank make this intersection safer for drivers as well as pedestrians and car owners who have had their cars totaled as a result of these accidents.

We suggest the following:

1. Several rows of reflector size speed bumps along the crosswalk of Alameda Ave & Main St. This will help alert drowsy drivers and give them time to react before any impact.

2. Post a Yellow warning sign stating "Curve Ahead". This will help alert drivers that are heading into the bend too fast.

This is a reasonable and cheap solution that will minimize accidents and possibly save lives.
