We are horrified and shocked by the continued incarceration of Mr. Sholom Rubashkin while he awaits sentencing, and appeal for compassion, especially regarding bail. Please allow Mr. Rubashkin to minimally spend the upcoming Passover holiday to home with his dependent children, and hopefully until his sentencing. We urge you to consider that Mr. Rubashkin is not a flight risk as he would never abandon his children, nor his elderly parents. Guaranties such as ankle brace, house detention, guards, and collateral have been offered.

"Few media outlets described the extraordinarily good side to this man, his generosity and kind-heartedness toward everyone, Jew and non-Jew," Rabbi Genack of the OU says. He believes that "whatever lapses may have occurred under duress when he was scrambling to save his company, do not warrant the kind of excessive prosecution and lifelong punishment that should be reserved for hard-core criminals.

"This was a man who—unlike a notorious all-time swindler people like to compare him with—lived modestly, was kind and trustworthy, never fleeced a single customer. Even after the raid, under impossible pressures, he kept his payments to the bank coming punctually. To keep his commitments, he and his family mortgaged everything they owned. "If anyone is deserving of sympathy, support and leniency, it is Sholom Rubahskin."

We the undersigned call for Mr. Sholom Rubashkin to be released to spend the upcoming Passover Holiday with his dependent children, and until his sentencing. This excessive incarceration before his sentencing has horrified and shocked us.

We urge you to consider that Mr. Rubashkin is not a flight risk as he would never abandon his children, nor his elderly parents. Guaranties such as ankle brace, house detention, guards, and collateral have been offered.

If anyone is deserving of sympathy, support and maximum compassion, it is Sholom Rubashkin and his dependent children. He is very well known for his many positive character traits and for helping the needy. We therefore urge compassion in his case.
