Cavaliers suffer from serious and painful inherited diseases, and research has found genetic problems such as Syringomyelia and MVD that are threatening the future survival of this unique Breed and so we wish to demonstrate to the Cavalier and Kennel Clubs the ongoing concern that we as Cavalier Pet Owners have for the future of this wonderful breed of Spaniels.
These dogs can be born into a life of pain due to irresponsible breeding practices, and the large volume of breeders who are still choosing to ignore breeding guidelines set by their Clubs . Cavalier pet owners and their families, who are by far the largest body of owners of this breed, are suffering great distress and heartache when their pets are suffering.
We therefore demand all breeders to immediately adopt and fully implement the health testing protocol for SM and MVD and all other appropriate health tests.
We support the mission of www.cavaliermatters.org to help owners by advising them in plain English of what action to take, who to speak to and what questions to ask when one of their pets displays unusual or abnormal behavior.
Upon closure of this petition it will be forwarded to the UK K.Club and the UK Cav Clubs and relevant government departments. We also request owners if they wish, when signing, to please advise us of a short history of their trials and tribulations they and their pet have endured.
We the undersigned petition the U. K. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, The U.K. Kennel Club and the relevant Government Departments and all Cavalier Breeders to make The U K Cavalier Clubs Code of Best Practice a rule for its members with sanctions for those who ignore this code.
We also require all breeders to immediately implement and abide by the agreed health testing protocol for S M and MVD and all other pre-breeding health tests required for Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and for the Kennel Club to disallow registrations, unless proven by authentic compliance certification of any Cavalier presented to the Club by breeders who continue to fail to observe their own clubs breeding guidelines , and who continue to breed without due regard to the future health and well being of this wonderful breed of dog "The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel " whose future is so uncertain by the non conformity and disinterest of many breeders.
