Target:
President Barack Obama
Region:
United States of America

Nashville attorney Kevin Sharp has submitted his name for consideration to fill the vacancy in the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Tennessee. We believe he is unfit for this position due to his recent leadership of Nashville’s Priorities.

This group bills itself as a citizen organization formed to oppose the construction of a new convention center for Nashville. In truth, it is a front organization for a national company that opposes the convention center project out of self-interest but doesn’t want to risk the public relations hit of running counter to public opinion.

The Music City Center project is vitally important to Nashville. In a time when our city is fighting 10 percent unemployment, it will create thousands of jobs. It will dramatically expand Nashville’s second largest industry, tourism. It will build on our city’s already strong brand, Music City USA.

Nashville’s Priorities has engaged in one of the most dishonest and manipulative campaigns in recent Nashville history. It has run a misleading push poll. It has run intentionally inaccurate newspaper and radio advertisements. It has run harassing telephone calls against Nashville’s elected leadership.

As president of Nashville’s Priorities, Sharp has approved every single activity of the organization. News outlets have asked him to reveal his funding sources. Sharp has repeatedly and publicly denied the request.

His activities as president of Nashville’s Priorities have raised questions about Sharp's fitness to serve in the judiciary; therefore; we respectfully ask Presdient Barack Obama to reject Sharp’s application to the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Tennessee and to continue searching for a suitable nominee.
