The air is fresh and clean and all is perfect for that nice summer drive. As the freeway comes into view all that is seen is a never ending blanket of cars. You find your spot next to a small gray car filled with a family of five. The mom and dad look like the perfect parents the two kids in the back seat are making faces at the baby who can’t help but smile the toothless smile of joy.

What a wonderful family you think to yourself. The traffic is standing still so you decided to text your friends. You’re into a great debate and the traffic starts moving but still slow enough you think you can text. So you attempt to drive with one eye on your phone and the other on the brake lights in front of you. You’re slowly getting up to speed and by now you’re up to only 55 miles an hour you think that’s slow enough I can finish this conversation. You look down to make sure you spelled a word right and without warning you hear a noise that well hunt your sleep for the rest of your life you see glass and ground and glass and sky, as you slowly open your eyes you hear screaming and crying and you look through your broken windshield and see the gray car slammed into the guardrail on the other side of the freeway you see the skid marks were the father tried to avoid your drifting car.

Then you notice it the blood stained street and in the mother’s arms you see a bundle of blankets and blood you look closer and see the hair of the older child you look to the father who is holding another lifeless body and time seems to stop for ever more. If only you would have waited or pulled over or never started texting a mother and a father would never have to feel the loss of a child a sibling would not have to grow up alone. A family would still be together. As you look into the fear stricken younger child and she looks up eyes pouring tears of hate directed at you she asks why, and it is at that moment you realize this could have been prevented and you relive that moment for the rest of your life wishing praying you could change time.. And truth is you have the power to as long as you don’t text and drive.

My close friends and I believe that all texting while driving a vehicle should be banned. Its not because we think that its dangerous for all, but some cant handle that ability to multi-task like others.

So its only fair to take texting out of the drivers hands. Besides, even the best of the multi-taskers have had a close call while texting and driving. So join our cause if you think that consequences should arise from bad automobile driving due to texting.
