On Sept. 10, 2008 the DISD announced that it overspent its 2007-08 budget by $64 million, a deficit that the public is going to have to make up for.
An audit was completed and found a significant lack in financial controls under Dr. Hinojasa's leadership. Dr. Hinojosa wants to cut 1,209 positions – 675 of whom are teachers – to help offset the looming $84 million deficit.
Many hundreds of teachers have already been fired but yet Mr. Hinijosa remains employed despite public out cry for his termination. It will take three years to build the reserve fund back up to $120 million. (It's now about $56 million after the district dug into it to deal with the $64 million shortfall for the 2007-08 fiscal year).
We, the parents of Dallas I.S.D., call for the resignation of Dr. Michael Hinijosa. There are teachers and even some trustees that have expressed no confidence in him.
