Petition Tag - tick borne diseases

We created this petition because Newtown is facing the possibility of deer culling in our community. Deer culls are not the same as hunting. Culls are town sanctioned deer kills. They involve costly, multi-year, inhumane programs that are neither effective, safe, NOR science-based. They involve baiting and then shooting a large number of deer within the town, year after year, within bullet or arrow range of residents in Newtown.

To date, there is NO scientific evidence from the other towns in Fairfield County that have instituted deer culls that they have had any measurable effect on reducing tick borne diseases in their communities.

It's time to look at the facts and the science. Newtown must not blindly follow the other towns that have instituted deer culls because they simply don't work.
