1. Stop Bullying Now!

Sign this petition if you want bullying to STOP NOW!

Every year people are greatly affected by bullying. Either in school, at home or the workplace, bullying has major impacts on lives and can lead to mental health conditions such as deep depression, anxiety and even in the death of a child through escalating violence or suicide.

No one deserves to feel scared at school, work or home. Too many people who witness bullying never step forward for fear of becoming a victim themselves or risking their career. It's time to put a voice to this major issue.

In Victoria, Australia, a young woman was bullied to the point she took her own life. As a result, the Victorian Government introduced the Brodie's Law that protects victims of bullying and holds those who bully accountable.

This petition will help drive similar laws in the rest of Australia to protect our most vulnerable in our community.

2. Petition to force presidential candidates to specifically address the reality of Veteran Suicide

According to a study published in the American Journal of Public Health ("Estimating the Risk of Suicide Among US Veterans," Kaplan et al.), an estimated 5,000 veterans die by suicide each year. The VA's Suicide Data Report, 2012 found a higher figure, 22 suicides per pay, or 8,000 per year. The VA study also recorded 11,000 non-fatal suicide attempts a year.

A 2007 study in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health found that male veterans are twice as likely as their civilian counterparts to commit suicide.

50% of those with PTSD do not seek treatment....out of the half that seek treatment, only half of them get "minimally adequate" treatment.

Fact is this is a topic where studies, or reports, or panels need not apply. Losing even one soldier at home due to lack of available care is appalling. With a federal budget of 3.5 trillion dollars, our military should not have to suffer a lack of care. If you can send our friends and family to risk death, you can do what is necessary to protect and care for them at home.

4. Safety Barriers For The EJ Whitten Bridge

On the 7th of August 2010 my brother Johnny rode his motorbike to the EJ Whitten Bridge and jumped. As harsh as that may sound it is the reality of the thoughts my family has had to deal with ever since that day.

After petitioning Vic Roads and Parliament to take action to get barriers on this bridge, there has been no action taken to even put up temporary barriers and this concerns me immensely as I am aware of lives still being lost.

Please friends sign this petition and get it out to as many people as you can we need action now not when it suits Vic Roads.

6. Don't Legalize Assisted Suicide in Colorado

A Colorado lawmaker is proposing a bill to legalize assisted suicide in our state. Sadly, this practice targets the terminally ill, the disabled, and elderly with death as opposed to medical care.

Colorado should not turn doctors into killers!

When other nations have legalized assisted suicide, that has quickly turned into euthanasia. This is already happening in the Netherlands and Belgium where the mentally ill are being euthanized and even children.

In Oregon, depressed people have died by assisted suicide, and patients, who were denied medical treatment, were steered to assisted suicide by the state health plan. Oregon resident Jeanette Hall, who was terminally ill and wanted assisted suicide, is alive today because her doctor convinced her to try medical treatment.

We must stand up for life in Colorado and true dignity for the elderly, ill and disabled means rejecting assisted suicide!

After you have signed, PLEASE share on Facebook and tweet on Twitter!

7. We Want Justice For Dr Supriya

The conditions that forced Dr Supriya, (a third year paediatrics MD student, of DMC hospital, ludhiana) to commit suicide are no different than any other medical colleges of India. Her suicide note said that she cannot handle the stress any more.

There are many such stories of resident doctors all over India!

"MS , MD and DM students are under huge pressure in many ways:

1. Overworked ( 24 hrs duty, 36 hrs duty , 60 hrs duty with no post duty off day.
They get only 12 hrs to go to hostel to rest . Then again a long hr duty).

2. No vacations no summer or winter vacations. University gives a number of 20 CL per yr, which includes Sunday or gazetted or going to conference . So these becomes negligible. Plus college never gives a total of 20 CL provided by univ. Everything is in the hands of college. Total torture! No help desk for a resident.

3. Most of the residents are 27 plus age and they r not financially independent. As college asks for lakhs of fees per year with a negligible stipend of around 20 k per month , difficult to survive in today's world. So these doctors hv to ask money from parents or in-laws in case of a married doctor girl.

4. On top of it , consultants at each round abuse and scold the resident on duty . As there are always some important works left to be done , which is obvious from the amount of work given with a limited time and no help, seeing the patient burden these days.

5. Colleges can keep salaried non PG residents to help PG residents , but the management save their money and keep residents overworked.

6. On top of it, tortures, insults in front of the hospital staff and patients , threats of not giving degree on time.

7. No maternity benefits.

8. If someone is tired of all this , he/she cannot leave and let go BECAUSE there is a bond of lakhs of rupees.

9. Plus They have pressure to complete dissertation despite round the clock work, and become frustrated, which also reflects in their daily work.

10. Frustrated seniors can throw their tantrums on residents anytime , coz residents cant do anything in the fear of their cancellation of their hard- earned degrees!

These days patient load is increased. How can our seniors think that they have tolerated all these in their times, and so they ll pass it on to next generation.

Plz think seniors, there is a difference now!
Times are more stressful these days. If u ll apply old norms n rules on us , then v all wont survive!

We doctors are getting unhealthy, stressed. Lack of sleep is wrenching n killing . There r many more things too - we also hv families , female docs need to give time to their small babies. Most female residents join duty after 40 days of delivery, so that they are not delayed for a period of 6 months or 1 yr to get degree!

Plus many more probs!
Plz save us!
Plz help us!
We r fed up n tired!
Lets all join and fight!
Lets raise our voice!
So that no more precious lives are lost this way!

8. Save Free Anti-Bullying And Empowerment Centre From Closing

Beyond A Joke Incorporated is a not for profit centre built for young people so they have somewhere to turn for help and guidance.

We offer a free drop in centre, support groups and social club. We also offer a volunteering community service to bring people together to end bullying in a non-violent manner. Government will not support this project after stating they would. The founders funds have run out and the doors of this centre will have to close if help is not forth coming.

Many parents are approaching Beyond A Joke Incorporated in shopping centres when fund raising crying because their children as young as 12 no longer want to live due to bullying at school. Beyond A Joke Incorporated is trying desperately to stop any further suicides by young people who feel suicide is the only way to escape bullying. Please sign this petition for us to see support and recognition from Government on the importance of this service for parents, young people and communities.

Government official simply states not for profits are closing due to non funding. This is not good enough. The Government has a duty of care to people who have no money or support to seek help.

12. Backup Cup support for beyondblue

My name is Joseph Dunning and I would like to organise a special fund raising event in Mount Gambier for beyondblue.

Why beyondblue, and why football?

I am very passionate about the game. Our game has helped me through some very tough points in my life when nothing else seemed to help. I can attribute this to the therapy playing the game has given me.

Sadly we have recently lost one of our family members late last year. We are still trying to come to terms with the loss and the empty hole in our hearts. However we only see it fitting to place the awareness of depression and anxiety in the forefront of peoples minds by having this event.

If we can find one positive to come from this heart breaking time, that is helping the awareness and support of an organization such as beyondblue. As we know every little bit counts, and has the ability to to make a difference to the ones thst need it the most!

beyondblue is an organisation that was established in October 2000 as a national five-year initiative to create a community response to depression. The aim was to move the focus on depression away from a mental health service issue and towards one which is understood, acknowledged and addressed by the wider community.

My family would like to raise further awareness of mental health issues as well as show that organisations like beyondblue are there to help people like the one that was dear to us. When all seems lost there is help at hand; help that will not discriminate nor chastises for you feeling the way you do.

For beyondblue to continue their invaluable support in helping people deal with the stress that our modern society brings, they require support and encouragement from the community, by means of fundraising and generating awareness.

Please sign our petition in support for The Back Up Cup - proudly supporting beyondblue in our request to get Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory Football clubs to Mount Gambier and participate in the Back Up cup!

This event is to help raising much needed funds for beyondblue as well as providing awareness of mental health issues within our community.

16. Defend Illinois' terminally ill patients: Legalize Physician Aid in Dying in Illinois

A Physician Aid in Dying, or Death with Dignity law, is where society supports the right for a terminally ill citizen of sound mind - who desires it entirely of their own will - to a peaceful, dignified end to their suffering.

A dignified, peaceful ending for somebody with an agonizing terminal illness is arguably protected by the 8th, 9th, 13th, and 14th amendments to the United States Constitution.

I support the right to choose in Illinois. The people and/or governments of Oregon, Washington, Montana, Vermont, New Mexico have all agreed that at least in cases of terminal illness, patients should have the right to choose to end their suffering in a dignified, painless as possible manner. A Pennyslvania court ruling in February of 2014 may serve as a precedent to prepare for a Physician Aid in Dying program there. Oregon's Death with Dignity Act has been law since 1994, has worked smoothly, and has not experienced abuse.

Illinois needs to have these programs ready for the coming calamities that our world looks to be facing. A Death with Dignity law is in the interest of every citizen of Illinois.

There are increasing numbers of terminally ill people in Illinois who, these constitutionally supported laws, may be tortured to death.

17. Free Iranian Kurdish Prisoner of Conscience Afshin Sohrabzadeh

Kamyaran Intelligence Office forces arrested Afshin Sohrabzadeh, a 23-year-old resident of Kermanshah, on the road from Sanandaj to Qazvin on June 8, 2010. Later, Branch Two of Sanandaj Revolutionary Court convicted him of moharebeh (enmity with God) through membership in a Kurdish political party, and sentenced him to 25 years in exile at Minab Prison.

The case was forwarded to the Supreme Court after his lawyer appealed the ruling, but Afshin Sohrabzadeh was transferred to Minab before the Supreme Court could review his sentence. He was informed later while at Minab Prison that the Supreme Leader had upheld his sentence.

In April, Afshin Sohrabzadeh was detained inside Minab Prison’s Quarantine Ward for two months, following an argument with prison forces.

Afshin Sohrabzadeh, a young Kurdish prisoner at Minab Prison, attempted suicide on Wednesday, July 3, in protest of his exile and what he called the “deplorable conditions” of the facility, a local source told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran. The source, a human rights activist, told the Campaign that Sohrabzadeh, sentenced to 25 years in exile at Minab Prison by the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, attempted suicide by “swallowing broken light bulb glass” and “cutting his veins with a sharp object.”

After the prisoner was transferred to the prison infirmary, due to the facility’s limitations and the prisoner’s critical condition, he was transferred to a Minab hospital where his stomach was pumped. As
his hospitalization required Prosecutor’s orders, he was returned to Minab Prison, was again transferred from the prison to a hospital outside to pump his stomach, and again returned to prison a few hours later. The human rights activist added that despite the prisoner’s need for hospitalization, prison authorities returned Sohrabzadeh to his ward.

20. Enforce a law against Bullying

Since the start of 2013 in the Logan area where I am from there has already been several teen suicides related to bullying, so imagine how many more we do not know about.

The bullying starts in the school yard, online and into the workplace. There is no consequences and no laws are broken when you push someone to the limit of suicide and mental abuse.

There needs to be a law in place for bullys to be held accountable for their actions if it is in the school, online or work, whether it causes mental harm or even worse death.

Bullying is getting worse over the years and all the bullying campaigns and signs are not enough and isnt working.

Children are the future and their are so many lives lost due to bullying. Bullying is harrassment and mental abuse and to inflict this is breaking the law but bullys are getting away with it.

It is bad enough to know that so many lifes have been cut short by the actions of other people and that no one is held responsable. We need to stop protecting the bullys and let the law deal with the bullys in the court with a criminal record for life.

There needs to be a law against bullying as it is a crime. Together we can all make a difference. Bullying effects us all.

22. Release Adam Lanza Toxicology Reports

We are requesting Newtown Selectwoman and Connecticut lawmakers take the necessary steps to ensure that the complete autopsy/toxicology results of alleged Sandy Hook shooter, Adam Lanza, be released to the public and specifically toxicology tests that would determine whether Lanza was yet another school shooter under the influence of, or in withdrawal from, psychiatric drugs, documented to cause violent behavior—based on the following facts.

Because there is overwhelming evidence to support a link between psychiatric drugs, school shootings and similar acts of senseless violence, it is imperative that the people of Newtown, Connecticut be provided all the information relating to the alleged shooter, Adam Lanza.

• At least fourteen school shootings were committed by individuals taking or withdrawing from psychiatric drugs resulting in 162 wounded and 72 killed.

• Between 2004 and 2011, there were nearly 13,000 reports to the FDA's MedWatch system of psychiatric drugs causing violent side effects, including homicide, mania and aggressive behavior.

• 22 international drug regulatory warnings have been issued on psychiatric drugs causing violent behavior, including mania, psychosis and homicidal ideation.

• The alleged shooter, Adam Lanza, was an adult at the time of his alleged criminal acts and his death, eliminating any privacy concerns on releasing his toxicology results due to "minor" status.

• Releasing the autopsy/toxicology results has no bearing on any on-going criminal investigation. For example, within weeks of the 1999 Columbine massacre, the coroner revealed to the public that shooter, Eric Harris, had the antidepressant Luvox in his system. This information was released to the public despite the on-going criminal investigation into the Columbine massacre.

• Any failure to release the autopsy/toxicology results only serves to protect the pharmaceutical industry, not the general public.

• Release of the autopsy/toxicology results is a completely separate issue from the criminal investigation.

24. Mel Greig and Michael Christian should be allowed on Air

2 Day FM Jocks Mel Greig and Michael Christian thought they hit the jackpot when a Prank call got through to the hospital where Kate Middleton was being treated and they spoke with Nurse Jacintha Saldanha, 46, a mother of two, pretending to be the Queen and Prince Charles.

However while the pair believed they managed something outstanding, Jacintha was found unconscious at a nurses' accommodation block near London's exclusive King Edward VII Hospital at 9:35 am (local time) on Friday. She unfortunately was unable to be revived.

We are still awaiting the release of the cause of her death, however, speculation is rife after the Prank, she was so humiliated she may have taken her own life.

I won't put the blame on the radio duo though, they were stupidly making a Prank Call and in their eyes got lucky, I am sure their followers were all laughing at the time. However, the humour of Prank Calls by Radio Hosts must be questioned as well as as the way it can affect some ones life is horrendous. It is in my view 2DAY FM Management that needs to be called to account as their Shock Jock have a poor reputation for making decisions and have made grossly bad decisions as to what they would do.

I am sure Nurse Jacintha Saldanha had other issues at the time but this poor nurse who must have felt humiliated beyond belief in the UK, realised how ridiculous the call was and how naive she was to believe such a , this is most probably the catalyst for her death be it by accident or other means.

However, as Chairman of beyondblue, Jeff Kennett said, there was nothing wrong with Mel Grieg and Michael Christian's 2DayFM prank and the radio hosts should be given support. Lifeline: 13 11 14.

25. Change and Improve the Mental Health System in WA

On the 29th of October 2012 a young troubled teenager: Alysha Devereux attempted suicide, at only 17 years of age.

Before she attempted to take her own life, Alysha recorded videos on her ipad and spoke in detail about her long and hard battle with depression. In her videos she talked about how little the mental health system had supported her and criticised the State's mental health services.

"Too old for some places. Too young for other places. The mental health system is f***ed, absolutely F***ed. It's like saying you can't have a mental problem between 16 and 18 because there's nowhere for us to put you."

Professor Bryant Stokes, who led a six-moth review of WA’s mental health services, said that because of the number of adolescent mental health patients in WA, more beds are urgently needed to accommodate these patients.

Throughout the year Alysha’s mental health deteriorated but because of the mental health system, she could not get the help and support that she needed desperately.

As a result Alysha attempted suicide twice in September and was taken to Bentley Adolescent Unit, the only secure psychiatric unit for adolescents in WA, she was not a voluntary patient.

Alysha discussed her mental health issues, accepted that she needed help and sought it out, but due to the State’s lack of resources, communication and adequate accommodation within the mental health system, that drove her to attempted suicide. If Alysha had received the help and counselling she needed, then she would not have felt driven to suicide.

This petition aims to bring the desperate state of WA’s mental health system, to the chair of the Mental Health Advisory Council: Barry Mackinnon.
We aim inform him about the lack of mental support for adolescents in WA and provide him with the changes and improvements needed in the system, and then we can hope to prevent more young adolescent suicides.

Many people who die by suicide or make a suicide attempt have a history of mental illness or are experiencing symptoms of mental illness. Up to 12% of people affected by mental illness take their own lives (compared with an average of 1.7% for the whole population.) and suicide is the main cause of premature death among people with mental illness. Early detection and treatment of mental illness is important in preventing suicide, although many people do not seek help until symptoms become severe.

Mental illness is common in Australia with one in five Australians experiencing a mental illness at some stage in their lives, and many experiencing more than one mental illness at one time. Prevalence of mental illness decreases with age. Prevalence (including substance use disorder) is greatest among 18-24 year olds (27%) while prevalence among people 65 years and over is 6.1%.

WA needs a better and more active mental health system, one that offers extensive support to adolescents suffering from mental illnesses, and allows them to feel safe and comfortable while they accommodate the centres.

More mental health centres that are specifically focused on adolescent mental health and the rehabilitation of mental health suffers are needed.

More communication opportunities for adolescents suffering from mental illnesses are needed.

And more professionals that address the mental illness at hand and work through the illness with the patient need to be available to adolescents and their families.

27. Investigate death of Chavis Martin: Arkansas Man's death is suspicious

Chavis Carter was a 21 year old black male stopped with two other white males in Jonesboro, Arkansas. When officers stopped the vehicle, they smelled marijuana. At this time Carter was handcuffed and searched TWICE! During the search, officers found a dime bag of marijuana, but are claiming to have missed a gun. Carter called his girlfriend and told her that he would call her once he got to jail.

The two other men were allowed to leave... and somewhere something went far left. Despite being left handed, handcuffed, searched two times and placed in the back seat of the car, police and Jonesboro authorities are claiming that Carter committed suicide by shooting himself with his own gun in the right side of his head. The officers on the scene claim they thought the gun shot was a piece of metal in the street that got ran over and that they found Carter's body in the back seat. Authorities have recently released a video showing how this could happen and have ruled his death a suicide.

There are so many questions that need was the gun missed during two searched? How did he manage to get the gun to shoot himself in the right side of his head, being handcuffed? Being left handed, why was he shot in the right side of his head? If he was going to commit suicide, why call his girlfriend and tell her he would be phoning her once he got to jail? How did the officers not know that that was a gun shot when it was that close to them?

Sign the petition showing Jonesboro Police that we don't believe their investigation findings and will not let the issue go. There are questions that need answers and we demand them. When is enough enough?

30. Save Lives, Stop Bullying in Australian Schools

Bullying is one of the greatest dangers children in Australia face.

In our culture, bullying is stigmatized so that Children often feel ashamed to seek help or even tell anyone they are being bullied, for fear of being a burden on families and communities.

As a result the issue goes unrecognized.

Children's voices are not loud enough to demand their own basic rights. Which include:

The right to be free from physical or mental harm, and to receive an education which enables them to reach their potential, and prepares them for life in a free society (from the UN Charter).

BULLYING RUINS LIVES. It has been the cause of countless suicides. Shown in the photo above, Sheniz Erkan is a girl who died as a result of cyber-bullying in January this year.

Bullying ruins mental health.

Children who are bullied are three times more likely to develop depressive symptoms and NINE TIMES MORE LIKELY TO HAVE THOUGHTS OF SUICIDE.

Victims of bullying are more likely to develop psychotic symptoms in early adolescence and young people who bully others are four times more likely to have a criminal record by the age of 30.

Bullying has devastating affects on the welfare of individuals. It inhibits their developing identity and contribution to society.
