1. Withdraw frivolous SHRL damage charges

It appears that most students who lived in apartment-style residences at University of Toronto Mississauga have received damage charges that do not reflect the actual state of their apartments at checkout.

Charges for merely vacuuming and dusting apartments often add up to $200-$400 for the entire apartment (e.g. $100 per resident in a four-person unit); not only are these amounts unreasonable, but it seems that much of this cleaning was done unnecessarily, if even completed at all. It also appears that the real motive behind these charges, given their wide-spread issuance, is not to clean or repair the apartments, but rather to raise funds.

Townhouse-style and, to a lesser extent, dorm-style residents were likely affected as well.

2. Help Resurrect LA FEMME NIKITA

La Femme Nikita was an exceptional espionage/spy drama that premiered on the USA cable network from January 1997 to March 2001. It was adapted for television by Joel Surnow from the original French film of the same title and ran for five consecutive seasons. During that time, it was the highest rated drama on cable television, and it went on to become a cult classic with viewers around the world.

As a weekly serial drama, La Femme Nikita was original and ahead of its time. The unique, innovative style of the show influenced numerous other television series and movies that followed. Revolving around complex moral and ethical dilemmas, it was intelligent, sophisticated, and darkly beautiful. For many, the fascination and genius of La Femme Nikita was its dark tone of modern minimalism and its unprecedented style of character development.

The program was of such outstanding caliber that there has never been another like it...before or since. La Femme Nikita has been profoundly missed and has left a void that no other program has filled. Thousands of individuals identified with the show on a deeply personal level and felt it became a part of their lives. On a global level, people passionately love it and have remained dedicated life-long fans.

Following a campaign in the summer of 2000 to save the series from cancellation, the devoted audience was given the gift of eight additional episodes. However, fans of this riveting and darkly engrossing drama were left with an unsatisfactory open-ending. Many viewers of the show felt they were denied closure and will never feel like complete resolution has been achieved until Michael and Nikita are reunited.

After seven years absence, the fans feel the return of La Femme Nikita would reward them for their loyalty and faithfulness, update them on the lives of the characters, and provide a positive and cathartic closure to a much beloved story.

3. Alan Pardew style fashion error

Alan Pardew has had a positive effect on Charlton, despite the failed fight against relegation.

However, on the style stakes we feel that Alan is letting the Club and himself down by tucking his trousers into his socks and we would urge the club to ask Alan to not undertake this fashion error.

5. BAN MODELS WHO DO NOT MEET HEALTHY BMI WORLDWIDE

On September 13, 2006 Madrid, Spain put a ban on overly thin models for Madrid’s fashion week. This means that models that were under a body mass index of 18 were turned away. Over 30% of the models that walked the year before could not walk the show. Deputy finance minister of the regional administration in Spain by the name of Concha Guerra said that “Fashion is a mirror and many teenagers imitate what they see on the catwalk.”

Virtually everyone falls short when they size themselves up against the images of models on the catwalk or in the magazines. According to About.com, approximately 7 million girls and women struggle with eating disorders in just the U.S. alone, and most of these girls would say that a huge trigger in their eating disorder are models and celebrities. This is who they try to imitate.

Just imagine what it would be like if models weren’t rail thin, but of a healthy weight? If all models who were not of a healthy weight were banned from modeling, I am confident that the overall well being and esteem of girls and women would improve without having to live up to the images that are thrown at us every single day.

I would love to flip through a magazine and see a beautiful woman who looks great, and know that she is healthy. Young girls can look at these models and say, “see you can still look beautiful without being underweight!”

6. ASFCME - stop the current addendum vote

On Friday September 29, 2006, a union vote took place concerning modifications in the Driver and Monitor Contract. Many union members feel that they were not properly notified or given accurate information concerning the vote.

Specifically, members were not notified in a timely manner to make arrangements or allocations of their time to participate in the vote. Some members were notified the very day of the vote and some were not notified at all. The preferred current ASCME communication style is to put paper flyers in the transportation building lounge. This style operates under the assumption that all drivers and monitors visit the lounge, which is not true.

Additionally, the amendments to the contract were not given to each union member in a timely manner to develop an opinion of good or evil. Only two pieces of paper that were confusing to some lay next to the vote box for drivers and monitors to make a very quick decision to vote yes or no. Furthermore, union members were not provided their own personal copy

12. Sarah's Law for the Uk!

Parents have THE RIGHT to know about child sex offenders living in their neighbourhood. However the government has now backed away from introducing a US-style "Megan's law" into Britain. The home office minister Paul Boateng made clear that a public right to names and addresses is not likely to be made available. Isn't it about time to put needs of of children before the needs of convicted sex offenders?
