211. Iraq
Since the Gulf War, the United States' sanctions on Iraq have killed over 700,000 children.
This crime of a mass scale has sent an uproar throughout the world - so much so that the very nation that Iraq attacked has violated the sanctions and sent aid to Iraq's children.
This crime is so inhumane that prominent individuals like Doctors, Entertainers and other professionals from the United States have donated goods to Iraq. Some entertainers like Val Kilmer even went there to express their sentiments for the children.
Wars happen - but inhumane systematic holocaust of children should not accepted.
AROUND THE WORLD PEOPLE CELEBRATE LABOR DAY MAY FIRST. HERE IN THE UNITED STATES WE CELEBRATE LABOR DAY IN SEPTEMBER. I BELIEVE THAT WE SHOULD CELEBRATE ON THE SAME DAY THAT OUR FELLOW WORKERS AROUND THE WORLD DO.
213. Equal Selective Service Registration
Since its beginnings the selective service registration has been sexually discriminatory, requiring that only males register. It's time for equality, for both men and women to serve in combat side by side and register equally or have the entire process dissolved.
214. Free the Drug War Prisoners
We believe that drug war prisoners are political prisoners, that drug laws are repressive and counterproductive, that drug laws strike at the heart of our constitutional system, depriving American citizens of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and that "drug problems" should be dealt with by treatment, not incarceration.
Deaths in the United States in a typical year are as follows:
Tobacco kills about 390,000
Alcohol kills about 80,000
Workplace accidents kill 60,000
Automobiles kill 40,000
Cocaine kills about 2,200
Heroin kills about 2,000
Aspirin kills about 2,000
Marijuana kills 0.
There has never been a recorded death due to marijuana at any time in US history. All illegal drugs combined kill about 4,500 people per year, or about 1% of the number killed by alcohol and tobacco. Tobacco kills more people each year than all of the people killed by all of the illegal drugs in the last one hundred years.
PUT AN END TO THE WAR ON DRUGS! FREE THE DRUG WAR PRISONERS!
215. Make all TAXES, Fines, And Fees voluntary
All power in a capitalistic society is based in money. Our elections are questionable at best and the ordained winners of said elections determine how much will be given to support any issue or person. The people of this great nation should determine how much personal income is spent to finance the government. The government has a constitutional right to tax, fine, and set fees; however, through a referendum we the people can take the mandatory punishment away from government by making all such monetary compensation voluntary.
The time is now to pull the dog's teeth.
216. More sidewalks in residential areas
We as disabled people and nondisabled people need to come together to get sidewalks installed in the areas where we live. I am in a wheelchair and was having to be in the street to get home from church one day last year and was hit by a car and was told that it was my fault so my lawyer dropped my case. So I would like to see that our city officials put sidewalks in our communities very quickly.
217. School Funding Bill
In November the Australian Senate will vote on the Howard Government's new schools' funding bill. There will be no real increase for the public schools that educate 70% of the Australia's students.
The States Grants Bill -
- Delivers funding increases to already privileged private schools
- Provides no real increases for public schools
- provides 70% of students with only 32% of the funding
- fails to provide an accurate measure of a schools need
- allows unregulated expansion of private schools at the expense of public schools
- makes it so much harder for public schools to continue to offer the high quality education.
This petition will be forwared to the Democrats, and the ALP senators along the the Greens and Independants from other states who have majority in the senate.
