1. Stop Redundancies at University of Birmingham

The University of Birmingham have announced plans to make 114 staff redundant or force them to work anti social hours contracts.

Staff directly supporting students and there wellbeing are affected.

Cuts include:
*Cut in staff looking after students in student accommodation and downgrading their skills;
*Sports Centre, Security and Cleaning.

The anti social hours contracts are forcing staff with caring responsibilities for children and parents to work evenings and weekends.

All the cuts are to frontline staff, not senior managers.

2. Trenode C of E School: Save our school car parking

Morval Parish Council have decided to sell Trenode Lane as it offers no enjoyment to the Parish.
Trenode School entered into an informal aggreement with the Parish Council to develop car parking space for staff and use the lane to access the school playing field.

The school would now like this agreement formalised before the lane is sold. This would safe guard car parking and ensure staff cars do not have to park on the road outside the front of the school causing congestion througout the school day.

3. Keep bank holidays, closed days and weekends special

The University of Birmingham are proposing to change the terms and conditions of all support staff by cutting the pay of support staff for working bank holidays, closed days and weekends and making them compulsory for many. New administrative staff have been placed on a 'any 5 day in 7' contract.

UNISON believes that these changes undermine staff's work life balance, health and well being and that these are important to both staff and the student experience

4. Stop Staffie Prejudice on TV

This morning I was watching Lorraine and the two people discussing the news story about the child attacked by a Staffie made comments like "I just don't understand why any one would want to own one of those kinds of dogs when they are so dangerous" and "You just don't get aggressive Labradors".

If you think those comments are correct then walk away and continue to lead a narrow minded life but if you think that it should be deed not breed then please sign so we can get a proper apology from the show and maybe they can get someone who actually knows about dogs to give people the facts!

6. Self-injury support

No Secrets currently provide peer-support to those affected by self-injury. We are a voluntary group and non of our volunteers are paid for their time.

We provide training to local professionals around self-injury however it seems that accident and emergency and other medical staff think that this is not relevant to them.

ANYBODY can be affected by self-injury, and if you are working in healthcare of any kind you should be appropriately trained to deal with self-injury.

7. Halt the Redundancies of Staff at Gray’s

We the students of Gray’s School of Art were concerned to hear of proposed staff redundancies at our Art School.

Staff at Grays School of Art were called to a meeting with Prof. John Watson, the Dean of Design & Technology on Wednesday 6 October 2010 and told that the Art School had a budget deficit and needed to make savings of £500,000 and these savings would be met through staff redundancies. They were told they would all receive the option of voluntary redundancy.

We are concerned that other options for saving money and funding the Art School have not been fully explored. Redundancy on such a wide scale will severely damage the quality of teaching that the school has always managed to provide.

8. Support a Forum For Staff Concerns at Wits

The current dispute between management and staff at the University of the Witwatersrand regarding salary increases, is symbolic of a lack of real communication between management and staff and indicative of the disdain with which management appears to regard staff concerns.

Within this context, students seem to have more rights than staff. It is time for greater staff representivity at Wits and for management to show a genuine commitment to the human resources and capacity within the University.

9. Support Classroom Preparation Day

At the beginning of each school year, teachers spend the first week in staff development workshops.

Traditionally, teachers are given one day during this week to set up their classroom in preparation for 1st day of school and the entire year. Last year the principal did not give us time to prepare our classrooms during the week. Consequently, teachers had to spend time on Saturday, on their own time, to prepare.

As a consequence, many teachers were not prepared and had to continue their preparation during classroom time, conference time, lunch time, and after school. The principals at the other schools in the district did give their teachers time to prepare for school.

10. Hire a Licensed Guidance Counselor at Barnum High School

In the past Barnum High School has employed a State Licensed Guidance Counselor. During the past two years Barnum High School has used a Dean of Students (who is a certified teacher/not educated or licensed as a Guidance Counselor) to fulfill the duties of a Guidance Counselor. The Barnum High School Students deserve a Licensed Guidance Counselor.

The hiring of a Guidance Counsellor is already in the Operating Budget of the school. This change will not eliminate any jobs as the teacher acting as a "Dean of Students" is tenured and will revert back to her teaching duties (without loss of pay or grade). Barnum High School Staff and Students deserve the immediate hiring of a Licensed Guidance Counselor.

15. It's About Time

We were promised properly resourced quality nursing/midwifery services
- Public Sector nurses and midwives across metropolitan South Australia are taking action because the State Government has failed to deliver on its promise to support positive and resourced quality nursing and midwifery services.

It’s about time that these resources are delivered
- A promise was made, in February 2007, to provide more nursing and midwifery staff for direct clinical care so that other nursing and midwifery staff (including Level 2 and 3) could spend time performing activities that have an important impact on patients.
- Since this time, we have repeatedly requested that the resources be provided.
- To date, we have not been provided with a response or timeframe.

It’s the time we need to provide quality patient careThe failure to resource quality nursing/midwifery services has a negative impact on patient care. Failure to meet the promise means that less time is available for important work including:
- Quality improvement
- Infection control
- Rostering (ensuring adequate and appropriate staff on shift)
- Clinical teaching supervision / support of new staff
- Professional / knowledge development and resources
- Co-ordination management and planning.

We have exhausted all other options to make the State Government deliver
- Because we have not received a response, we are taking action so that the State Government will provide us with the resources we need to provide quality nursing/midwifery services.
- We regret that we have been forced to take action, but we are taking action because of our commitment to the community and your health needs.
- We ask for your patience and support in our campaign – this is a campaign to ensure the community gets quality nursing/midwifery services and that’s why ‘It’s About Time’.

16. Keep Alltel Staff

Alltel and Verizon Wireless are merging and some of their staff members are going to lose there jobs. This is the worst time of the year, and this country does not need this. The people at Alltel are GREAT and have always been there for there customers.

I have been a customer for over 13 years, If they lay off to many people they will loose me as a customer, and I have 3 accounts with them. And im not the only one.

And by the way Verizon's employees are just rude. And the reason for that is that when ever a Alltel employee is fired for something wrong, Verizon always hires them.

17. Longer lunches at Alameda Senior High School

Last year, at Alameda Senior High School, the staff and student body had a total of 45-50 minutes to enjoy the time between classes with a lunch period. This year (school year 08-09) the student body and staff have a mere 35 minutes to eat lunch.

The staff and students feel that the cut in the lunch period should be reinstated. After discussion with many of the staff members, and several students, 35 minutes is simply not enough time to have lunch. Standing in the lunch line at Alameda one volunteer commented, "It took 20 minutes just to get to the counter to purchase lunch, by the time I was able to sit down and eat, I had 5 minutes to eat my lunch."

Other High Schools in the district get between 40-50 minutes for lunch.
The circumstance under which our request should be granted are that the staff and students often go to class without a finished meal or finishing a meal.

we should be able to access myspace from school... i think so because there are people that dont have a computer at home and i think it would be alot easier if instead of blocking myspace completely that they just have some little password code on the site and when people are done with there work they can just have a teacher sign them into the site and do their own little thing on myspace...

i for one get on mainly because im in a group home and i like to contact my mom through email because i dont like staff at the group home listening in on my conversations with my mom... sign if u agree..

19. Budget Ease for an Overwhelmed Community

Bridgeport, CT's Proposed 2009 Budget constitutes many changes and hardships for citizens in an already stressed community.

According to the budget, 43 newly civilianized staff that will operate the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) even though though the budget has scaled back funding for public library services, eliminates 19 positions in the Public Health Nursing Program, eliminates the general fund school based program, dental hygiene and reduces the nursing staff by half, budgetary reduction of 1/3 of staff funding, reduction of 25 positions, eliminates 87 direct line positions and accounts. Budget calls for a 4-mill tax hike or a 9 percent increase in taxes. As far as education, 7.4 teaching positions are not funded in the mayor's budget, and 41 new positions could not be filled.

The budget allows to provide sanitation services including garbage collection, bulk trash pickup, leaf removal, and recycling to our residents. Beyond regular trash pickup, these additional services are by no means mandated, and they carry a cost of $6,545,327.

These costs could be reduced if residents would carry the cost of garbage removal.

23. A Condensed Work-Week for Full-Time Employees

In an effort to reduce the rise of on the job injuries, and to also establish the Four Winds Casino as a company who is advancing the cause of environmental awareness, the beverage staff of the Four Winds Casino would like to submit into writing a petition requesting shortened work-weeks with extended working hours for scheduled shifts.

The request is two-fold and is stated as follows:

1. We believe an established four-day work week with 9 or 10 hour days per shift for full-time employees will provide the beverage staff with a needed reprieve to obtain proper physical rest especially after so many consecutive business promotions. These promotions are vital to the success of the company, so being properly rested would be nothing but advantageous to the company as a whole and the beverage servers especially will have more time to rest their arms, backs, wrists and legs so they may be more productive on the floor.

We believe that by shortening the work week, not only will the above conditions create a more productive team, but there will be less call-offs. Multiple call-offs have been the result of extreme fatigue especially during casino promotions. The lack of appropriate staff has not only resulted in an inability to ensure exceptional guest service to our patrons, but beverage employees are already experiencing "burnout" which we believe can be combated once the work-week is condensed.

2. By decreasing the five-day work week to a four-day work week, the Four Winds Casino will be instrumental in promoting environmental awareness as employees will no longer be required to drive in on day number five to work a four-hour shift before receiving an early-out.

We believe that with gas prices increasing and environmental conditions being a factor, bringing people in to work to send them home four hours later is economically wasteful and environmentally unfriendly.

25. Flexible Work For All

Prior to January 1, 2007, Garden Ridge and some of the other units were operating Monday through Friday and weekend working schedules. The Units were operating with less staff, salaries were less and overtime for pay for staff was limited.

As regard to weekend staff, staff was able to provide more community activities for the residents and because of these activities residents were contented.

At the present time, as a result of changing to patterns, excessive overtime for pay is prevailing, more employees are quitting their positions, absenteeism now exists and in due time all this will directly affect the residents.

26. READING PRIVILEGES ON 11-7 SHIFT

Nursing staff at this facility had their reading privileges suspended as a result of events that lead to this plan of correction. While this plan helps prevent said event from happening again, it also has placed a hardship on night shift.

Due to the nature of 11-7 shift, staff has inevitable down time between our rounds. Previously we had the option of quietly reading, which helped us stay alert. Without this option, we are finding it very difficult to keep ourselves alert. Our residents have the right to get their rest, which limits activities we might otherwise do to stay awake. They also need us on the hall, ready to respond if we ARE needed between rounds.

Might it be pointed out that there have been no previous problems caused by personal reading on 11-7 shift.

29. Justice for Imran Campaign

Imran Rashid, a 28 year old British-born Muslim from Middlesbrough has been unlawfully captured and incarcerated in a mental hospital without any reason or warning. The hospital has shown no interest in Imran’s welfare and safety and are holding him against his wish, in order to punish him in pursuit of their vendetta against him.

They show little empathy, overrule and dismiss his feelings. Imran’s life is in danger and the power to help rescue and save him is in your hands, so please help by signing this petition.

The hospital medical team are of no comfort or assistance, Imran has no trust in anyone of them and is requesting immediate removal to some where neutral and safe, both Imran and the family feel those responsible for his care and treatment are bias and discriminatory and could be danger to Imran’s life by provoking him into committing suicide. His human rights are not valued and the family has been offered little or no support. The hospital atmosphere is unwelcoming as staff give the impression they are superior, authoritarian and powerful. The family is very concerned about the threats made by the hospital that “Imran will never be released”.

This case is well known by all agencies and black professionals, who instead of helping, are simply passing it on to other agencies, wrongly assuming that it does not concern them or their professional remits. The family feel helpless and powerless in the face of institutional conspiracy and bias by the NHS Mental Health Trust which has little or no knowledge and understanding of mental health needs of Ethnic Minority and Muslim patients. Even the government is aware of the failure and inadequate treatment and service provisions for BME Communities in England (04 October 2006 Black & Minority Mental Health report).

Please Help! Can you imagine what you would feel and do if your loved one was locked-up in a mental institution, without any reason, or any independent support & representation – What would you do if your plea for help fell on deaf ears whilst the world just stood by watching your pain & suffering? Parents & friends of Imran Rashid have launched a campaign for “JUSTICE FOR IMRAN” and are humbly requesting your help and support.
