361. Closed Campus Lunch for Freshmen of Coronado High School
At the beginning of the 2006-2007 school year, Lubbock implemented a district wide campus restructuring. This restructuring moved our 6th grade students from elementary to the Junior High and our 9th grade students to the High Schools.
Coronado High School offers the open campus concept lunch to all grade levels including the new freshmen class. This is open campus lunch concept has caused issues with our young children and has exposed them to many things that threaten their safety. They are loitering at business in the vicinity of the high school. They are meeting up with people that are not students of Coronado. Many of these people are over the age of 18, selling drugs to these students as well as influencing their behavior.
As parents, we are responsible for the protection of our children and must take every opportunity available to do this. Coronado closing the campus to the freshmen class at lunch is one way we can insure the safety of our children.
362. Fight against the antitrust NFL monopoly
In 2004 there was a very high profile lawsuit against the NFL filed by Maurice Clarett, an Ohio State football player, who wanted to participate in the NFL draft even though he was still a sophomore in college.
This dramatic lawsuit brought national attention to the issue of NFL eligibility. Clearly, the restrictions on eligibility deny people their rights to choose a profession they want to pursue. As a result of these restrictions, athletes should be able to enter the NFL draft immediately after graduating high school.
The Maurice Clarett lawsuit is an example of the problems that can result in restrictions on NFL draft eligibility. In his case, he argued that antitrust laws were broken as the NFL has a monopoly on professional football. And he further argue that he, as a professional seeking to begin a career, was restricted and had no alternative companies for which to work. This concept of the NFL monopoly also is a violation of American free market beliefs wherein one is free to pursue the career they choose.
The NFL is the only league for professional football players and, as players are successful at young ages, they should be able to become professionals as soon as they want.
Like all monopolies, the NFL will continue to dominate the market and will take advantage of athletes, their contracts and the way they are regulated. Prices will be unfair and competition will be unbalanced because of the restrictions to age. This will be an industry not regulated by free market practices but by one dominant monopoly which seeks to make as much profit as possible.
The problem is that young talented athletes may lose precious years of their careers to these regulations. Furthermore, the competitiveness of the market will be distorted because the best young athletes will not be allowed into the game. This violates antitrust laws in egregious ways.
363. A Petition to Not change the East Waco schools
Our East Waco schools should be left alone and other schools within the district targeted.

365. Better Food For Young Scholars
If you are in Elementary School, you know what I am talking about. Most of the foods that we buy from the cafeteria are bad for you and bad tasting.
Yeah we have fruits and vegetables, but the main courses are full of grease and ....ewwwww.
We deserve better, especially after being in the classroom all day!
366. Foreign Language Courses in Corning-Painted Post School District
For years, only two foreign languages have been obtainable at the Corning-Painted Post School District, while in other districts in New York, as many as four may be offered. This is much to the dissent of the student populace.
Because of this, many of the students, only being able to choose French and Spanish, never get the chance to take a language they want so they quickly lose interest in it all together and many drop out after taking the Proficiency Exam that is required by New York State.
If a student were offered a language they would like, instead of being required to pick between two they do not like at all, they are more likely to stay in the class and therefore would have a higher chance of staying in the class and would lead to better understand among the younger generation of the United States and the world.
367. Add a 4th Section to Greenville's 2007-2008 3rd Grade
There are 71 second grade students at Greenville in 3 sections and 68 students at Seely Place in 4 sections.
Last year, the Seely Place 1st grade had 67 students, and a 4th section was added. Last year's 1st grade at Greenville had 69 students in 1st grade, yet was kept at 3 sections, above the district's recommended class size guideline of 22. Currently, our 2nd grade has 2 more students than it did last year.
Over the past ten years, Greenville's population has grown at a much faster rate than Seely Place's. In 1996, Seely Place had 436 students and Greenville had 411. As of Oct. '06, Greenville had 502 and Seely Place 499. If this trend continues, the inequity of average class size between the two schools' incoming 3rd grades will be further exacerbated.
The resulting inequality in average class size (23 vs. 17) is having a detrimental educational effect on the teachers ability to teach -- this has been confirmed by some of Greenville's 2nd grade teachers.
Equalize the average class size today! Please give our children the 4th teacher they need.

369. Against proposed parking restrictions on Mossford Lane and Fullwell Ave
We are opposed to the above proposed restrictions for the main fact that 90% of the children attending Clore Tikva school come from outside the catchment area of the school, and by implementing these restrictions the problem of parking will only be moved to the area immediatley beyond Mossford Lane.
370. Ban online porn!
Porn should be banned! Even with a popup blocker, there is a 2/10 chance a popup or two will pass the filter. Our headmaster caught me with a 'dirty' popup while Googling for a PS2 Final Fantasy cheat while using the school's network. He told my parents about it and my parents cut the internet in my house. (I'm in a friends house right now).
It isn't my fault. If there wasn't any porn, the world world be MUCH MUCH SAFER! And that means I get to keep my internet back!
371. Petition Against the Firing of WC Part Time Teachers
The West Clermont school board has decided to fire all part-time teachers. This is not beneficial educationally or financially.
Part time teachers are much more cost effective and because of this some highly qualified teachers are being fired.
372. Save our principal at Kennard
Our principal of Kennard school started 2 yrs. ago. She has brought up our task scores in a school which was previously failing. She promotes principal student relations and has provided scholarship funding for kids and increased field trip activities. She is up for her 2 yr. contract and is being out voted.
Please help us she has made our school fun and a great learning expirience. I have a 9 yr. old and a 12 yr. old nephew who are both in the Duke scholarship program because of our principal.
PLEASE we ask you again to help save her.
373. Albright Students Against Stereotyping
Our principal has told some of our students that they cannot wear or dye their hair how they want to. For Ex: Genna, she had her hair dyed some parts beach blonde & that she cannot spike her hair up. Some girls in our school (you might have noticed), they have their hair green, and magenta.
If you are willing to prevent people no matter who they are to lose some of their rights that ARE under the rules, sign this petition.
374. Petition against mandatory school uniforms in UK state run schools
Campaign Against Mandatory School Uniform (C.A.M.S.U.)
Website coming soon
A campaign by gen:Now
It has been a long upheld belief of the UK Government and school authorities that wearing school uniform boosts morale, prevents bullying, improves the learning environment and provokes pride.
Not one of these claims has any discerning scientific evidence to promote them, and the sad fact is that mandatory school uniform is a practice of totalitarianism embraced blindly by school authorities in the United Kingdom.
Even the faintest notion that forcing students to adorn uniform, especially as restricting and inconvenient as it is in the majority of cases, promotes morale and respect for a school is the most preposterous thought that could cross any persons mind. Obviously, forcing anybody to do something they don’t wish to will breed strong disrespect for the body inflicting that thing upon them. This is only amplified by the fact that that thing is so painfully and blatantly non essential and efficiency would be monumentally increased if that thing was nullified.
School uniform in fact neither provokes pride nor boosts morale, but instead breeds hatred for the authority the student is being dictated by. States of mind spawn like “I was born on this Earth and already have been made to go to school by others essentially equal to me, and am even made to wear a ridiculous uniform – why should I do either? I have a right to lead my own life,” and “If this world is dictated by such old fashioned and ignorant dictators, how am I helping by doing what they say?” spread like wildfire and problems like truancy and vandalism occur as a direct result.
School is an institution designed to teach young people, after all, and although discipline is an essential element in producing generations that are productive during their life, there is a fine line between discipline and denial of human rights. The idea that young people should have their time taken from them, in the form of a detention, if their parents do not purchase a uniform is absurd.
Here is what a parent can expect to pay for a uniform for an average secondary school student. These prices are from School Uniform Direct (http://www.schooluniformdirect.co.uk), a popular school wear distributor.
- Blazer : £59.99
- Sweatshirt £6.99
- Trousers : £8.99
- Shirts : £2.99
- Socks : £3.00
- Tie : £4.00 (Ricara)
- Shoes : £45.00 (Russell and Bromley)
That adds up to £130.96 per student, usually per year because this clothing just doesn’t last. That means in one students school life, about £1440.56 and above can be spent just on uniform. Guess why? Because a school just isn’t the right environment to be wearing such ridiculous garments of clothing.
Now we come to the most outlandish statement of all; school uniform improves the learning environment. I actually laughed when I was told this was one of the reasons school uniform was compulsory in the UK. How old fashioned! How short sited! How completely disregarding what schools are all about; young people and their education! The UK’s schools bear a disconcerting likeness to Hitler’s Germany; the stern belief that any smidgen of individuality should be smashed.
It has been scientifically proven that young people learn best in an environment they find comfortable; something school uniform most certainly isn’t. It doesn’t keep you warm in the winter, and in the summer you roast; this makes concentrating extremely hard.
In addition to this, the government actually believes that wearing a school uniform will prevent bullying because students from lower income families and social classes cannot afford fashionable clothing. This is nonsense. I have several t-shirts, shirts, fleeces, jackets, jeans and a perfectly good pair of shoes for out of school, and all together none of them cost as much as £130.96 – and each of the garments I wear at home have a lifespan of several years! They are also perfectly fashionable!

376. Keep Cloverdale Traditional School Open
Regarding the possible closure of Cloverdale Elementary
On November 20th 2006, the Greater Victoria School Board of Trustees passed a motion, “That the Cloverdale school transition to a traditional school in September 2007 be approved by the board as a school of choice, and that this decision will be reviewed in May 2008.”
Unfortunately, on January 29th 2007, the same Board that voted in favor of us to become a school of choice, passed another motion, “That the Board approves a consultative process to consider closure of Cloverdale Elementary School and Lampson Elementary School effective July 1, 2007 and that the Board agrees to commence the consultative process as follows:…”
If the Board chooses to close Cloverdale, they will be:
• Closing a local, well loved school with a rapidly expanding and desperately needed Out of School Care facility.
• Denying all Capital Region residents a new and promising School of Choice – Traditional Public School.
You are welcome to find out more information about our fight to keep Cloverdale Traditional Elementary School open at http://members.shaw.ca/cloverdale_PAC
Thank you for your support.

377. Stewart Middle School 8th grade formal dance
We recently found out that Stewart Middle School will not be hosting their annual 8th grade formal dance for the students.
378. Fix our nova scotia schools
I am just a parent of three children. My top priorites for them are that they are well fed, clean, healthy, safe and they succeed in school. Everything else falls in somewhere after these priorities are met.
I followed with interest the Nunn Inquiry and was encouraged to see that the Commissioner saw fit to include four recommendations out of a total of 34 that are directed toward education in Nova Scotia. The following is a list of the 4 recommendations, copied directly from the report itself:
Recommendation 31
The Department of Education should ensure that there is additional
training for teachers and administrators on best practices in assisting
students with attention deficit and other disorders, along with
adequate funding for assessment and early intervention of students
with these disorders in Nova Scotia schools.
Recommendation 32
The Department of Education should consider additional funding
of initiatives to develop and sustain programs and supports that
encourage “school attachment” for students at risk, either within the
regular schools or in dedicated, alternative programs. Without
limiting this recommendation, as particular examples I recommend
that:
• the department should consider the introduction of and targetted
funding for junior high support teachers throughout the province; and
• the department and Halifax Regional School Board should
continue and expand their respective “Youth Pathways and
Transitions” programs. 292
SPIRALLING OUT OF CONTROL
Recommendation 33
The Department of Education, in consultation with the school boards,
should identify effective measures aimed at enforcing the school
attendance provisions of the Education Act and reducing the levels of
truancy in Nova Scotia schools.
Recommendation 34
The Department of Education, in conjunction with the Province’s
strategy for children and youth at risk, should provide Nova Scotia
schools with adequate space, staff, and programs for in-school
alternatives to out-of-school suspension as a disciplinary measure.
The Nova Scotia government has recently announced it has accepted all 34 recommendations and has invested an initial 3 million dollars to get started.
This petition is to let those in government and at the school boards know that we,the people take this seriously, that we are watching and that we want quick action and immediate results.
If you are a parent or educator and you have not yet read the report you can do so at the link above.
Rather than sit back with my fingers crossed, hoping the government will do what they say, I've decided, as a parent to do something by starting this petition. You can do something by signing it and sending it to everyone you know. We are all stakeholders in education.
379. Make school uniforms mandatory in the USA
" Children's hunger to be fashionable brings another dimension to the connection between clothing style and school violence. Children may envy other children's clothing and lack the financial resources to purchase similar styles. Subsequently, children have been violently injured or even murdered for their designer clothes, sneakers, or professional sport-team paraphernalia. School uniforms may reduce these occurrences. In addition, requiring children to wear the same clothing could send them a message that they all belong to the same team, which may decrease violence toward other "team members." found on http://www.danenet.org/ncs/forumuniformseval.htm
380. Review Spanish 2 Honors class Midyear exam
We feel the World Language Department at Milton High School failed to properly hire a Spanish teacher for the 2006-2007 school year. The originally hired teacher, Ms. Burnett, did not properly teach the required information during her one-term teaching career at Milton High thus leaving Ms. Barron in a difficult place when she came and took over through December 22, 2006. During her short teaching career, Ms. Barron was able to instruct us in the book Ven Conmigo through Chapter 3, Section 2.
On January 4, 2006, we received a review sheet stating what was going to be covered on the exam. It states Chapter 4 will also be included in the exam. Yes, we have a new teacher on the way, however, until he comes, we will have substitute teachers in the classroom. There is no way we will be able to learn everything we have to learn in time for the exam.
381. Make SATs Optional!
Although the new SAT is better, it still only tests the english and mathematical skills of the student. This test should be more diverse and involve more subjects like the sciences and possibly the arts. Also, the colleges will compare the scores of a test taker others, which is unfair. There are those who do well during class, but not tests and vica versa. What if this student is much better in biology than in english? No one would know.
This also builds up on the stress of students. There are extracurricular activites, tight class schedules, upcoming tests, quizzes, projects---not to mention that they may have family issues. With the added pressure of AP classes and SATs, it's no wonder anxiety and depression is increasing in teenagers.
The recent SATs taken was about 3 hours and 45 minutes long. What kind of test really needs to be this long? This will cause fatigue for the students!
382. Holy Trinity Gives Second Chances
On December 20, 2006 a student at Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School, who we will refer to as simply Matt, was caught in the act of trafficking.
Although we realise this is highly illegal and any persons caught involved in this kind of behaviour should be given strict consequences, we are asking the Halton Catholic District School Board, and Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School to show mercy to Matt in this situation.
We aren't asking Matt to be exempt from any legal action. We are asking for Matt to be allowed to continue to attend school at Holy Trinity, if not this year then next year when he has served his probation or any charges that have been laid. As a catholic community we believe in second chances, Jesus showed mercy to those who have sinned, we are asking that the administration do the same.
Thank-you.
383. Allow Males to have ear peircings in Humble I.S.D., in Texas.
In Humble I.S.D. it is not allowed for guys to have earrings, while girls may.
That is sexist, And must end.
384. Sick Days for Courtney Xifaris
A teacher in our school district has no sick days left and is unable to access the sick bank because her daughter is sick, not herself.
385. Boycotting use of Wise Guys Pizza at Lyme Central School
This year, Lyme Central school has changed their pizza to Wise Guys. They have pizza every Friday and plainly its just too much.
Pizza is not a healty choice and many many people have people outside of school. It should be limited to once or twice a month.
386. Colorado Recess
CHICAGO Oct 9, 2006 (AP)— Here's some soothing medicine for stressed-out parents and overscheduled kids: The American Academy of Pediatrics says what children really need for healthy development is more good, old-fashioned playtime.
387. Keep schedule at 4 periods for School District of Hillsborough County
The school district of Hillsborough county is changing all block sheduling to traditional.
This change neglects the students that have planned there next school year around block schedule. This change is going to mess up the GPA of the students.
388. Triton Middle School Improvement Plan
An "Improvement Plan" has been proposed and is seriously being considered for next year (school year '06/'07) for the Triton Middle School. The plan would eliminate the current tracking or leveling of the 7th and 8th grades.
In other words, there would no longer be advanced classes; all classes would be heterogeneous (the same).
389. Future Use of Undeveloped School Sites in Briarwood
In 2003 the Public School Board along with the Catholic School Board decided not to build schools in Briarwood. The land that tho schools were to be built on is owned by three groups; Boychuck Construction (60%), Northridge (10%) and the City of Saskatoon (30%).
The land was rezoned for single family dwellings and the developers would like to proceed with the building of such houses. The builders presented the community with a plan to build 44 dwellings in the above mentioned sites.
The residents of Briarwood feel deceived by the decision not to build a school, since the purchase of their homes was based on the assumption that a school would be placed in these lots. The residents that own lots adjacent to the school sites paid a premium for their lots that is not equitable to what residents who neighbor other developed areas paid.
The builders will profit from the development of these sites, the City will profit not onlyl from the sale, but from the property taxes generated by this lots and the residents of Briarwood will lose the green space that a school yard would have provided our community.
390. Petition to Save our Teaching Fellows
The Teaching Fellows are being made redundant in order to cut costs. They will suffer a 65% pay reduction if they remain teaching.
They will be replaced by PhD students who will not have as much experience as the Teaching Fellows have.
