Rolling Meadows is still a developing community and there has been some sort of construction at its entrance since it's inception about 8 years now with a few more years to go until completion. There is no light at the entrance nor is there an alternate entrance/exit point to the community. This forces residents and guests to make left turns onto FM 2252 against often heavy traffic moving no less than an average of 40-50 mph.
The recently installed gutter railing has created a blind spot on the left further hindering entering FM 2252 safely. There have been numerous major accidents here to include a fatality about 5 years ago. The potential for the next fatality is not a matter of IF but When. Soon there will be an elementary school at this intersection and although the school zone will address traffic speed and safety during 4 hours of the day for 9 months the need for a more definitive solution still exists. This section of FM 2252 is a main artery for access to FM 1604, IH 35, as well as the Rolling Oaks Mall, and nearby Walmart. Traffic is normally heavy for most of the day 7 days a week. Feb 7th one of our concerned residents received this response from the District 10 Councilman after sending that office an email, "The intersection of Nacogdoches Road and Dolente was studied by staff (DPW) in September/October 2009 due to a request for a new traffic signal.
The results of the traffic study did not warrant a signal based on the minimum requirements and guidelines set forth in the state approved Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD). Councilman Clamp tours various sites within the district quarterly with the Public Works staff and we are adding this intersection to the next tour. I do not have the exact date at this time but it will most likely be in late January or early February. During the tour, he will be able to discuss with staff the safety of this intersection and what options may be available." Then on 22 Feb this additional response, " The District 10 Tour with the Public Works department staff has been scheduled for this Friday, February 26th. We will be leaving the office at 8:30 a.m. to visit the various sites. After the tour, either the District 10 office or a member of the Public Works department will provide an update to you."
While we are primarily in need of support from the residents of Rolling Meadows and nearby communities we welcome the support of ANYONE who travels this portion of FM 2252 and understand the need for this improvement. PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION!
