MTV -The Valleys is described by its makers as, “The Only Way is Essex, Geordie Shore and Made In Chelsea - but Welsh”. True North, the company who have won the commission to produce this programme state, “The True North team love what they do - they respect the people they work with and they put money on screen.” Geordie Shore featured its participants’ drunkenness, vomiting, ridiculous conversation, nudity and sex - is this the content of a respectful TV company’s product?
True North want to put money on screen from South Wales in this instance. Potential show members are flattered with hand delivered postcards in clubs and bars which read, ‘You’ve Been Spotted.’ This looks-based selection process taps into the idea that being a Cheryl or Ashley-Cole-Alike is a viable and aspirational goal.
Not only is the show advancing the empty ambition of celebrity, it misunderstands and will no doubt misrepresent The Valleys. It is moving young people twenty miles along the A470 to live in a shared Cardiff house for five weeks - a city the majority already frequent. Will they suggest all people who live in Welsh towns and villages rarely leave them?
On-screen coverage of South Wales often features the most run-down areas, opinions gleaned from the least broad minded, cumulatively leading to a negative, skewed vision of the area by those outside.
There is a surfeit of successful, highly educated, hardworking and eloquent people of all ages in and from the South Wales Valleys, who do not wish to appear drunk or naked on national TV. They aren’t the ones who will appear.
The contestants will have been cast by True North Production Company to make money and increase ratings. The South Wales Valley stereotype will be perpetuated. The Welsh stereotype will be propagated. The idea of vanity and fame as a career path will be given a helping hand, potentially inspiring a whole host of Welsh youngsters to avoid academia and concentrate on implants and hair extensions instead.
Stripped down, MTV The Valleys is about business people manipulating and exploiting human beings – and a nation - in order to make money – how can this be allowed to take place?

If Chi Chi & Sinister don't get their own show then someone's seriously missing the mark. Out of all the reality personalities, most never develop any sort of following or pursue different avenues of entertainment exposure following the show... minus a few club appearances for free bar tabs.
Chi Chi and Sinister have been consistently in the limelight, they lead the rockstar life. They are constantly working in the studio for 10+ hours, filming promos, editing footage, on and off tour for various projects, working on collaborations with new AND very established artists. No one else is half as marketable or works as hard to market themselves as Sinister & Chi Chi. They're a hand-packaged product with a bow on it screaming, "Sell me!" while fans lay in waiting, eager to purchase.
If you would like to see Sinister & Chi Chi get their own reality show, please sign this petition that will be sent to 51 Minds to let them know.
WE WANT THE ADVENTURES OF SINISTER AND CHI CHI!
PLEASE NOTE: you have to fill out the petition in order for it to count!
I have decided to start this Petition to send to Channel 4 to see to ask them not to axe The Reality show shipwrecked as I have heard they are Planning to, so Please come on here and sign this Petition.
Pop-Up Video was an Vh1 production where they played music videos. During the videos pop up bubbles containing trivia about the band or the song appeared. This was a great way to listem to music while learning about your favorite artists.
Pop-Up Video was shown every night, but in 2002 Vh1 stopped this. Now, they show production asfter production of reality shows and music history shows.
We want Viacom to restore the the network and show Pop-Up Video.
MTV was originally created as a MUSIC network. However, in recent years, the MTV network is now focused on more reality shows than music.
Its daily schedule is dominated by new reality shows or re-runs of previously recorded reality shows. For instance, TRL used to be a must-see show, but now, Real World or Tila Tequila are the biggest hits.
We feel that the mainstream media, who's respsonible for our contemporary public sphere, lacks a diverse representation of women of different sizes as well as ethnicties. As a result, our "ideal beauty" is becoming more and more narrow, women are developing a skew sense of self, leading to depression, self-loathing, poor self esteem and eating disorders.
We have seen your epsisode on "Everyday Women" and found it to be an insuffiecent way to address real women and their body image. Many designers notes that it was difficult to design for plus size women and make it beautiful - we feel these comments were not addressed in a responsible manner. We ask you, in your next season to dedicate one episode to responsibly address body image in the media and its affect on real women.
