91. Better Television coverage on Video Games related issues

This is a copy of the letter which will be sent along with this petition in our campain for better Television coverage of games:

I would just like to ask one question. Why isn't there any main stream video games programming.

Gaming now brings in more money than both Film and Music world wide yet no one has scene fit to publish a decent gaming program with industry insiders that actually no what there talking about. Some satellite channels have tried and failed on more than one occasion to bring forward such a program and yeah. A slightly witty script may please some casual gamers but it wont cut with actual games fans who want; Real games fans to honestly review good games across all formats games, talk about important gaming news and bring forwards Industry Officials to debate up and coming titles.

Now is the perfect time to start such a program. The "Console War" has just kicked up a gear with all major players (Microsoft, Sony + Nintendo) crashing down prices and releasing all there best soft ware for the Christmas rush.

Will it be popular? As I said, Gaming already brings in more money than films and Music. Nintendo favourite Super Mario is now officially more widely recognised than Mickey Mouse and Buggs Bunny. Games are now being taken seriously by institutions like the BAFTA's and there seems to be no stopping the industries rise. Why the sudden popularity burst?, Gaming has over the years transformed form a relatively small and not widely renowned industry to a Multi Billion Dollar main stream entertainment source for quite a few reasons. The main one being:

Technology advances, Since the big break into 3D around mid 1990's games have gone from strength to strength. Todays standards shown in most major releases are vastly approaching the levels of detail we can accomplish in films with some major movie studio's setting up there own gaming divisions. Most noticeable has been Lucas Arts. The legendary company set up by George Lucas creator of Star Wars and Indiee Anna Jones.

So whats up for the future? Well as with most things these days it a race for online glory. But a mere Internet site?, I think not instead how about a full online net work for playing games against people from every side of the globe. A chance for Tom nice boy And Harry to test there footy skills against there counter parts form Germany. Perhaps to go online with a friend and work together with a group of strangers from around the world in a team effort to save the world. This possibilities are endless and they are actually happening as we speak. Microsoft's Xbox live is just getting up and running, Sonys Internet systems are in operation and Nintendo's online networking is pencilled in for next year.

So as you can see it's an exciting time for the games industry and a main stream television slot would thump home the values of Gaming to every person across Britain. Many still don't really no the power of games and how they've evolved since there college days of playing Snes, Mega Drive and arcade system classics.

Were not asking for a multi million pound TV extravaganza, We just want a TV slot at a reasonable time detailing up and coming games, news and industry chat.

97. Stop animal abuse before the Greece Olympics 2004

Animal abuse is widespread in Greece and includes starvation, neglect, cruelty and poisoning. Poisoning of both strays and owned pets happens every day; documented witness reports of this practice are abundant and have even been shown on Greek television. Poisoning is indiscriminate, and can affect children, adults and animals alike. Offenders must be prosecuted and fined for this illegal activity.

Given the current frequency of poisoning cases, it is also a concern that the numbers will step up, as the country prepares to host the Olympics 2004. Tourists are horrified at the suffering they see whilst on holidays in Greece, many vowing never to return. Given the magnitude of the problem, the Greek government needs to take an active role, working together with private animal welfare groups around Greece. Give the strays of Greece a sporting chance to survive the Olympics 2004!

98. Bring Back Native Noise

Planet Radio 93.3 has recently canceled their Native Noise program in Jacksonville, FL, which would play all local music on the radio for two hours on a Sunday night. They have recently cancelled the program and have no intentions on bringing it back in the future. This could greatly affect the local music scene here in Jacksonville.

Without the support of a two hour show on the radio anymore, all the bands that are starting out in Jacksonville are going to suffer from a substantial lack of exposure. So to try and prevent the scene here from going down the tubes and drying up. If you could show your support for local music and sign this petition, the local music, here in Jacksonville, would be very grateful, as well as the fans that support local music.

100. The Sims (For Mac) Transmogrifier

The Sims Transmogrifier www.lushcreations.com/
Transmogrifier.htm has been a big
success among the Windows gamers.
This program allows Windows users to
edith the appearance, cost, and
description of an object or piece of
furniture in the game. This is a great
program and has made the game much
more interesting! Which brings me to my point: I think that if the Windows users can have this program than the
Macintosh users should to! I think that it is unfair that the windows users can edit anything in the game while the Macintosh users can't edit much at all!

102. Port Edith To Mac for Better Sim-editing

The fine people over at www.simfreaks.com have put together a program that surpasses all sim-editing programs before it! They call it Edith.

There have been many programs before it such as The Sims Transmogrifier or TMOG. There are also smaller programs like MenuEdit, FarSight, BodyWarp, Facelift Gold, The SimsEdit, and many others! So your probably wondering what this petition is for. Well, as you might expect programmers of the sims utilities are all Windows OS programmers! The Macintosh users of this world are pretty disappointed that there are no sim-object editing programs available for the Mac disappointed users! So hopefully I will get enough votes to convince the people at www.simfreaks.com to port their wonderful program, Edith, to the Macintosh world.

So Please Sign, But Only If You Use Macintosh.! Hopefully this will show them that it is much wanted! -Adam the Mac skinner from http://steffanssims.pxdesigns.com/

103. Port Edith To Macintosh

Ever since the game The Sims came out
people all the way from Alaska have been writing programs that open new
possibilities. Now that the game has
been out for quite some time there is
almost nothing an average pc gamer
can't edit about the game. Macintosh
users aren't so fortunate though. They
have only a few tools while pc users have many.

Macintosh users are limited to Simshow, a tool for previewing skins, Namer, a tool used for converting PC skins to macintosh format, Farsight, a tool for viewing and extracting files from
.far files, and Farmaker, a tool for making far files. All of these tools are pretty useful although we still miss out on a big part of editing the game. I mean macintosh users can't edit or create objects without the sluggish VirtualPC. So If you want SimFreaks to port this program to Macintosh sign this petition!

104. South Asian Studies at UCLA

What must a region do to earn academic standing at a university? The region of South Asia, rich in history and culture and complicated in its development, is home to one out of every six people on the globe. Students at the University of California, Los Angeles, (UCLA) were thus stunned to find that there was no academic avenue to pursue a degree in the subject; not as a minor, a major, nor as graduate studies. They were furthermore dispirited by the absence of a South Asian Studies Center at UCLA, to coordinate the exchange of ideas between faculty and students.

As the South Asian Studies Task Force we turn to you, our friends in the community, for assistance. Your signature on this petition will show evidence for the demand for such a program at UCLA and at other universities across the nation. Your signature will also reflect the greater pursuit of ethnic studies for various groups. At the largest level, each signature will show support for student access to education.

We are confidant that our efforts can guide and support other groups as they pursue similar goals. Thus, a signature would help not only present and future UCLA students, but also any student wanting to make his/her voice heard in the educational process.

Thank you for your support and we welcome your comments.

Sincerely,
South Asian Studies Task Force

106. Bring Youth Wrestling To Chesterfield County Middle Schools

Please take the time to read and sign our petition to have youth wrestling instated into the Chesterfield County athletics program. It is our attempt to collect as many signatures as possible, to present these signatures to the county school board as a show of support for wrestling in our middle schools.

What effect can wrestling have on our children's character development? Success factors in sports, or anything for that matter, are part God-given (i.e. height and size) and part acquired (i.e. endurance).

Success in wrestling depends most on acquired factors, and unlike most other sports, wrestling does not favor athletes of any particular height, size, weight, muscle type, race or social class, and does not rely on superior vision or hearing. Wrestlers learn, by the nature of the sport, that long-term success has much more to do with the investment made than the 'natural' gifts one is given. Wrestlers learn the value of reparation and hard work, and the role it plays in achieving one's goals. Wrestling provides real-life experiences that build and strengthen character.

Is wrestling a dangerous sport? There is a common misperception among the non-wrestling public that wrestling is a very dangerous sport. Perhaps it's the aggressive nature of the sport, association with 'Pro Wrestling', or perhaps fear of the unknown. Several studies have been conducted in recent years that show wrestling to be safer than many more common sports including football, ice hockey and gymnastics. Most notable in these reports, is wrestling's low percentage of serious, permanent and life-threatening injury in relation to other sports. A quote from USA Wrestling Club Organizing Guide has the following to say
about Risk of Injury: In summary, of the many sports your child can participate in, wrestling is perhaps the most misrepresented, misunderstood, and underrated. The ratio of participation to public awareness is remarkably lopsided. Each year hundreds of thousands of kids participate in this sport, yet the average person knows as much about wrestling as they might know about rugby or polo -- which combined, involve far fewer athletes.

107. Change conflicting policies between Religion and School at ESD

For those unfamiliar with the faith of Islam, one of the many traditions followed by believers of this faith is to grow the beard at fist length (from the chin), and to trim the hair around the upper lip and face. Several passages and sayings (Qu'rran, Hadith),
dictate this as divine law. Recently, a young man of Islamic faith reached the age at which it was deemed appropriate for him to carry out this expression faith. Knowing the school's policy of "no facial hair", he very considerately wrote a letter to several
members of the administration, asking for permission to grow his beard to fist length. He was turned down.

Some would argue that an Episcopalian school reserves the right to deny non-Christian forms of religious expression. However, ESD has chosen, of their own volition, to admit students of non-Christian faith to the school.

The following is a verbatim copy of the mission statement of the Episcopal School of Dallas, which appears on the first page of the 2000-01 edition of the ESD Student Handbook: "The Episcopal School of Dallas, a college preparatory school, is a spiritual community whose mission is to educate young people having A VARIETY OF BACKGROUNDS AND APTITUDES [my emphasis]. The school is a co-educational, faith-centered environment, with a strong academic and extra-curricular program that ENCOURAGES STUDENTS TO DISCOVER THEIR FULL POTENTIAL SPIRITUALLY, INTELLECTUALLY, AND PHYSICALLY. [my emphasis]"

By printing the above text on the first page of the student handbook, ESD has professed to encourage students of different faiths to attend their school, and to strengthen their relationship with God. We see forms of religious expression around us every day at school.

To allow Christians and Jews to express their faith using the previously mentioned religious symbols, while restricting Muslims from growing a beard, ESD has restricted members of a particular faith the freedom to express themselves in ways similar to those
that their Jewish and Christian brothers and sisters do.

Furthermore, by publishing the aforementioned mission statement, while at the same time denying a student his own ways of "discover [himself]spiritually", The Episcopal School of Dallas has shown it's true diversity... or lack thereof. Please sign this
petition to support this Muslim student in his fight for religious expression in a "diverse" school.
