1772. Stop Disguise.com From Spreading Racism
We, the undersigned, are shocked and disgusted by the sheer audacity of manufacturer Disguise in releasing their new "Kung-Fool" costume for Halloween.
The costume consists of a black and white (Japanese) kimono, belt, vinyl half-cap, and rubber mask -- a buck-toothed, squinty-eyed caricature donning a headband with the Chinese character for "loser" inscribed. Until yesterday, the company's website ran the following description for the costume: Hiiiiiiiyaaaaa! Become a master of martial arts over night, or

maybe not, but have fun wearing the Disguise Kung Fool costume!
Certainly, this type of overt racism, passed off half-heartingly as "humor," is familiar to many Asians. Six months ago, clothing manufacturer Abercrombie and Fitch tried to push their "Wong Brothers Laundry Service" onto young adults and teens, claiming the shirts were "cheeky, irreverent, funny." Unfortunately, they actively chose to overlook that such depictions are blantantly offensive to many who've had to endure them, and indeed, have been used consistently and historically to marginalize an entire community.
More insidious this time, however, is the current attempt to perpetuate racist thought amongst children. While many of Disguise's costumes offer model cartoon heros, fictional characters and even infamous celebrities, no other costume singles out for ridicule a community like "Kung-Fool."
Therefore, we have formed this petition to articulate our growing frustration and impatience with corporate America's persistence in capitalizing on racism; to communicate unequivocally that Asian customers will not tolerate the spread of intolerant thought to children; and finally, to demand that Disguise issue an official apology and remove the Kung-Fool costume immediately from it's 20,000 retailers nationwide.

1777. Large and in charge?
It has come to my attention that some very mis-guided, and most likely excessively obese and unattractive women have decided to infringe upon our civil rights, and insult our intelligence (see website above). Their twisted observation of the general perception of women is being wielded in an attempt smite our most fundamental rights, most namely the right to free expression. Also at stake is our freedom to choose. These obsessive bovines have decided to champion the cause to remove attractive models from advertising so they don't feel bad about their disgusting, flaccid selves whenever they open Good Housekeeping magazine. show 'fuller' women in lingerie and appear in their 'Gallery of Winners' section. The difference? You guessed it, the fat chicks in underwear are not considered degrading in any way. Why? I guess because they are fat, since that is the only difference I can see. They are still chicks in underwear anyway you look at it. Chicks in lingerie say, "Come and get me" or so the enormous eyesores at about-face.com would have you believe.

1781. Lancome Le Lipstique in Natural Mauve!
I am starting this petition to send to the President, CEO of L'Oreal USA (Lancome) in an attempt to bring back the discontinued Natural Mauve Le Lipstique. I have written them several times regarding this request and they claim that the shade was discontinued because there were not enough purchases to justify keeping it. There are tons of great animes in Japan that lots of anime fans would like to see in the US. We know that some animes must be dubbed, but can't they try to do that? If we got a lot of anime in the US, it would be a hit! This petition is going to be sent to Cartoon Network. We, citizens of Europe, ask our representatives in the European Parliament to vote in favour of a European law which will protect European consumers.
This law forces computer manufacturers to supply the operating system on a media (CD-ROM or DVD-ROM) separate from the computer's hardware. Furthermore, this law adds minimal rights concerning the use of operating systems: the operating system must be used on a single computer, but this computer may change over time; the operating system may be installed and used on a laptop computer if the user already owns a licence for a desktop computer. This law must guarantee that the individual has the right to choose, freely, his or her operating system and the computer in which that operating system will be used.
This measure must allow the consumers to reinstall the operating system under the following conditions:
- my hard drive has been destroyed and I have to buy a new one;
- I'm buying a new computer and I certify that my old computer is disabled and that it has not been sold or given to a third party.
We recognise that software publishers have the right to protect themselves against software piracy, but not at the expense of the citizens. They must find a way to counter software piracy which does not have a negative impact on the citizens.

1797. Keep Caribbean dolphins in the wild where they belong!
Minvielle & Chastanet Ltd., a large St. Lucian company wants to capture wild dolphins and put them in a sea pen for tourists to play with!
St. Lucia and the Commonwealth of Dominica currently have captive dolphin facilities in the planning stages. The one in Dominica is partially constructed.
The two foreign investors involved are in St. Lucia, Dolphin Fantaseas and in Dominica, DOLPHINS PLUS.
A permit will be sought for the first 6 bottlenose dolphins for the St. Lucia facility to be captured in St. Lucia's territorial waters, in defiance of the SPAW protocol of the Cartegena Convention, which St. Lucia has ratified.
The dolphins for Dominica have recently been transferred from the Dolphins Plus facility at Prospect Reef in Tortola, which has closed down.
Our dolphins are a shared resource. Both St. Lucia, Dominica and the islands
to the north and south have thriving whale and dolphin watching operations, generating income for many.
These animals are large, wild and free ranging and it is wrong to confine them to enclosures, however "large" or "deep". They can never be as large or deep as the ocean which is their home.
The proposed St. Lucia facility is in an inlet at the entrance to Castries harbour which is not only extremely polluted, but is directly in the path of low flying aircraft coming in to land at the airport, and yards away from large cargo and cruise ships entering the harbour.
In times of heavy rain, the bay fills up with plastic rubbish from the Castries river. Plastic is extremely dangerous to marine mammals.
The Dominica facility is in a quieter area, but the irony is striking - Dominica, the Nature Island of the Caribbean, pioneers of the whale and dolphin watching industry, promoting swimming with captive dolphins?
This will be a blow to the images of both islands and any others which chose to go this route. We are hoping that the recipients of this petition will reconsider their positions and follow the example of so many countries in South and Central America whose authorities have come to realize that cetaceans are totally unsuited to captivity.

IF YOU LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE, WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SACRIFICE TIME THAT COULD BE SPENT WORKING, STUDYING, OR WITH OUR FAMILIES.
