62. Democratic Restoration Act: - Convicted felons have the right to vote

By denying people who have felonies the right to participate in voting is discriminating and undemocratic. The bill to withhold these rights was created during the Jim Crow era. With the purpose of barring African Americans the right to vote. These laws are still impacting today's society.

Seven times the national average is African Americans who cannot vote due to felony convictions. Pass the Democratic Restoration Act now so the people who are convicted of felonies can vote by the 2012 Presidential Election.

63. Attention Arkansas Cherokee Descendants!

Attention Arkansans! Did you know there was at one time a 4.2 million acres Cherokee reservation right here in Arkansas? Where did it go? It no longer exists because of a huge oversight.

No one has ever taken an census of the Cherokees living here, EVER! If you are descended from Cherokee then we ALL need to speak up NOW for your ancestors and your children. PLEASE sign the following petition to let the US know 'WE ARE HERE'! There are thousands of us living here in Arkansas that are descended from the original 'Cherokee Nation West of the Mississippi'. This was a Federally recognized Tribe that had a treaty with the US Government.

This Tribe was formed many years before the Trail of Tears march. They and the US were urging ALL Cherokees to move to the Arkansas Cherokee Nation before the march. The Cherokee in the East were told by the US and the Arkansas Cherokee Nation that if they did not move to Arkansas they were giving up their Tribal citizenship. This is all documented. The CNO (Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma) never followed any federally mandated guidelines to become an official Tribe and yet They claim they are a true Tribe because of a term called "INHERENT SOVEREIGNTY AUTHORITY". This basically means that since they were, they still are.

Therefore, since the Arkansas Cherokee Government was, then we still are! So; we, the descendants of the 'Original Cherokee Nation West' would like to obtain OUR federal recognition also by means of "INHERENT SOVEREIGNTY AUTHORITY". We now have a government official that is willing to assist us but we need as many signatures as we can get on this petition. If you are a descendant of the Cherokees living in Arkansas before and after the removal PLEASE sign this petition and let your voice be heard. We deserve this!

65. Sand Slug For Surfers

This petition is for support to put forward a proposal to Gold Coast City Council to act on the current state of our sand banks along the northern beaches of the Gold Coast.

As many of you are aware, of late there has been a constant dredging of sand from the outer 'bombie' banks of South Stradbroke Island and the Gold Coast seaway, and a dumping of this sand just off Surfers Paradise in front Cavil Ave down to Q1. You are probably also aware of the huge deep water gutter between the deadly shore break and the outer surfing bank and just how straight this bank has been for years, creating a river like effect flowing up the coast which is unsafe and has completely destroyed wave quality. This dumping of sand combined with the southern dredging is making it even worse. The dredging of sand from South Stradbroke Island is also having a negative affect on the world class surfing attraction that it is.

So why don't we do something useful with the sand that is currently being displaced? This is the capital of surfing in Australia, if not the world.

The answer is a 'sand slug'.

There is currently a sand nourishment project going down in Cronulla that has the potential to convert the straightest of beach breaks into a possible array of well defined banks and 'peaky wedges'.

Please read this article on Swellnet about the program being overseen by Landscape Architect and Reef Architect, Andrew Pitt from Surfing Ramps.

http://www.swellnet.com.au/news/2462-cronulla-s-latest-surfspot-all-new-all-natural

Without being too technical it basically works in a similar way to an outer reef, which sucks in swell, compresses it, breaks it up and in turn, creates real defined banks and peaky swell. The waves don't break on the outer bank but are directed by it, similar to what happens at South Stradbroke now. (Until the sand has all been dredged of course!)

Think of the possibilities for the beach breaks that run from Burleigh to the Spit. This has the potential to break up current over crowding, bring back quality beach breaks, and also improve the safety of the popular tourist zones. The 2 metre drop off at the water line is not safe!!

'Yeah, it'll work like a swell magnet; it'll focus all the energy into one particular spot on the beach, where the waves should be slightly larger than the waves on either side. So the plan is that we will get this classic situation where we get peaks coming through in the lee of the sand slug. Both those things should break up the closeout pattern.' Andrew Pitt

For more information on 'sand slugs' and other projects by Surfing Ramps check out this site.

www.surfingramps.com.au

Andrew Pitt thinks we have a very strong case to actually get something done with the current sand dredging and make a difference to our wave quality and beach safety.

If you want to support this cause so we can present it to council please sign this petition. This is definitely worth a shot!

And make sure you LIKE and SHARE this facebook page.

67. Fair Treatment of Foreign Students @ Handong Global University

Handong Global University is declared as an "International University." Yet, they put out rules and regulations that give advantages to Korean students and to MK's (missionary kids) or PK's (Pastor kids).

In order to receive an academic scholarship @ this school, foreign students must reach a GPA of 4.5 while other students such as missionary kids and kids from 3rd world countries only need a 2.5 GPA. Furthermore, during the summer and winter breaks, volunteer work to help countries in need are offered. However, favor is only given to students who are Korean or missionary kids which I find to be unfair for our future depends on good deeds we have done during our attendance at the university.

Thirdly, there are not enough English-speaking professors @ this so-called international university and there are no major courses offered during summer or winter breaks so foreigners have to stay longer in order to fulfill their credit requirements.

I say, that if Handong Global University is an "International University" it should live up to its' name, don't you think?

68. Support The Quotes playing Reading Festival 2012

The Reading Festival from its origins used to begin with a performance by a local rock band. Latterly, this tradition has fallen away. Reading has a long tradition and association with music as well as hosting one of the Worlds most famous music festivals. A very large proportion of the Festival crowd are from Reading and its environs.

The Quotes are a young, highly dynamic and energetic Reading band who have financed their own album and have a very large following. We would like The Quotes to play Reading Festival 2012 to demonstrate their talent and the rock music talent that Reading continues to generate. Where better to do this than their local Festival!

73. Take Shark Fin Soup Off the Menu in BC, Canada

100-150 million sharks are killed every year. In the past 20 years, shark population has decreased by 90%. Scientists predict that within the next 15-20 years, sharks will be completely wiped out.

The are the most important species on Earth, simply because they control levels further down on the food pyramid, as tertiary consumers, and therefore the oxygen levels in the ocean, which controls everything on earth, as it covers 2/3 of the Earth's surface.

Please protect this beautiful creature, and ban the act of shark finning. It starts out locally, but when brought to a global perspective can change the situation dramatically. The slaughter of sharks will soon affect you, so please, take action and sign the petition.

75. Save Aberdare Sauna

RCT County Borough Council propose to close Aberdare Oasis Health Suite. The suite comprises of a small Gym, Sauna, Steam Room, Jacuzzi and rest room.

The council propose to turn this small suite in to a larger Gym by doing away with its current facilities and utilising the current snooker room, thus removing this facility also. The Oasis Health Suite is used by a cross section of people who frequent the facilities from different valleys as well as from Cardiff.

Many older people who enjoy the health benefits of this small, but unique Oasis, use this Health Suite. Many of its patrons are ex-miners, Phurnacite workers and heavy industry workers who helped create and sustain this facility for many decades that have now succumbed to many conditions such as, bronchial diseases arthritis, skin disorders, and circulation problems etc. These health problems are eased and improved by using the Sauna, Steam Room, and Jacuzzi. The benefits are medically proven to enhance health and wellbeing.

There are more than 10 public Gym in operation between Mountain Ash and Hirwaun; there is no need to make a bigger gym at the expense of this vital part of health and wellbeing for the people of RCT. This Petition asks that the RCTCBC reconsider its decision to close the Aberdare Oasis Health Suite by reason that the current benefits to its constituent outweigh any reason for its closure.

76. Demand the labeling of palm oil in cosmetic products

The Sumatran orangutan society, have been very successful in campaigning to get palm oil labeled in all products who use it. They have recently won their clear labels, not forests campaign and it is now compulsory for all food products containing palm oil to be labeled in Europe and the UK. However this does not cover all products...cosmetics are not included in this campaign but i believe they should be.

The palm oil industry is responsible for destroying thousands of acres of deforestation in other countries. Currently 300 football fields are destroyed in south east Asia every hour for palm oil. And it's not just the vegetation that is being affected! The animals that rely on the forest (such as orangutans) are affected, many orangutans have no place to go when the forest is destroyed. 20 years ago their were more than 300,000 Bornean orangutans in the wild, now their are less than 45,000 in the wild. Orangutans only give birth once in 6 - 10 years therefore it is hard for them to breed as much as they are dying out due to deforestation.

Please go to http://www.wspa.org.uk/wspaswork/orangutans/ for more information on orangutans.

But worst of all the industry does not even label palm oil! Most palm oil is labeled as vegetable oil, therefore many people are unaware that it is in their shopping products. This is taking away our freedom to know what exactly goes into our cosmetics, it takes away are choice of whether or not to use palm oil! This is wrong, they should label palm oil and deliberately point out if it is palm oil free!

78. Bring Back LMU Football

Loyola Marymount University had a Nationally ranked football team from 1911 until 1950, ranking higher than USC and UCLA. During the 1950 season Western Texas University and the Board of Reagents did not allow us to play them because it was against their rules to have an African American play for or against any team in their division. This was over 60 years ago and times have changed. It is time to bring back LMU football and boost school spirit.

1. We are sick of being unknown as a University compared to USC and UCLA just because we don't have a football team.

2. We are tired of seeing people on campus wearing apparel from other schools/stores having apparel for every other school except LMU just because LMU is not as well known.

3. Bringing back football unifies the school with spirit and contributes to the college experience as a whole.

82. Enough is Enough - NYS-County Medicaid Boycott

Message: The cost of the Medicaid is out of control. The financial burden of the program is placed on County’s and ultimately being shouldered by property tax payers.

The State must take action to take financial responsibility for the program in an effort to lower property taxes in New York State.

Until the State takes responsibility for this burdensome program we are advocating that Counties withhold Medicaid payments made to the State of New York.

Objective: Passage of a bill that requires the State to take over the funding of Medicaid.

Strategy: Build a Coalition of support to withhold Medicaid payments to New York State through the Boycott Petition.

[11/17 Update: In Chautauqua County, the Tea Party Chapter and friends are also circulating a paper petition. This is especially important for those that support the effort but are not online. At present they've collected over 300 signatures. To download a copy usable in any county, go to "www.sttpp.wordpress.com"]

84. No Fracking in WA!

A HORRIBLE DECISION

Mining companies, such as Titan Energy Ltd, have been granted Coal Seam Gas (CSG) mining exploration licences for Wellington Dam near Bunbury, Kaloorup Road near Busselton and Vasse, the Irwin River in the Mid-West and the Canning Basin in the Kimberley.

WHY DOES THIS AFFECT ME?

Water Quality: CSG extraction poses serious risks to fresh water aquifers. The huge volumes extracted from coal seams can lead to major depletions in aquifers used for drinking water, agriculture, other industries and fire fighting. The chemical residues from fracking may cause potentially irreversible contamination to both ground and surface water sources.

Environment: The dissolved salts from CSG permanently ruin good farming land the water contacts, making it useless for agriculture or pastoral production. It is toxic to aquatic life if spilled into creeks or rivers. The latest research conservatively estimates a methane leakage rate of 3.6% - 7.9% of total well production. Over 20 years, this gives CSG a greenhouse gas footprint at least 20% greater than coal.

Health: Of the compounds typically released by CSG; 25% are carcinogenic; 37% affect the endocrine system; 52% affect the nervous system; 40% affect the immune system; and 100% affect the respiratory system.

86. Review Imminent Threat to Sheltered Housing Funding

The proposed cuts to the 'Supporting People' funding for A2Dominion Sheltered Housing sites within the borough will adversly affect the physical, mental and practical support for the elderly and vulnerable residents resulting in the loss of their Sheltered Housing officer (Warden).

The residents currently believe that their well-being, safety on site, site management (housing stock), mental and physical health are greatly cared for under scheme as it currently stands. That the Care Line system is not adequate to replace this, that the quality of support will diminish rapidly and be another faceless representation of community care.

87. 20 mph speed limit for Parkhill Road

A study conducted at monitoring sites across the capital in 2009-10 showed roads in Camden were among those to exceed recommended levels of speeding and using
20 mph speed limits have been proven by several studies to significantly reduce road accidents.

TfL casualty studies for 2009-10 show a 40% increase in cyclist casualties in Camden http://www.camdencyclists.org.uk/newsitems/ccc/cyclist-casualties-in-camden-2009-10

They also encourage cycling and walking, reduce carbon emissions by helping the flow of traffic and improve air quality.

There have been 3 reported accidents at the intersection of Haverstock Hill with Parkhill Road in the past 6 months. Parkhill Road in particular, is the main throughfare between Belsize Park and South End Green, where there has been additional traffic over the years. This can also pose a threat of safety to the elderly, school children (The Village school) and fellow residents in the road. Hence a 20mph speed limit would help the community and Village school immensely. Camden Council are now already assessing the speed limits in Haverstock Hall.

Already 7m residents in the UK live in towns which are adopting or have adopted this policy. It is time that Belsize Park, Camden NW3 did too. (For more information see here: http://www.20splentyforus.org.uk/ )

Please make a difference and sign! Our goal is to reach 1000 names for this.

88. REMOVE 100 SMS PER DAY LIMIT in INDIA

On September 27 2011, The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) brought out a stringent code so as to stop the menace of tele-marketeers.

While it dealt with that issue effectively, with the strengthening of the Do Not Disturb (DND) registry, lurking in it was a troublesome clause, limiting the number of SMSs per day per subscriber to 100. In today's age, SMS has evolved to become an easy, short and quick way for communication, and passing on information at a stretch.

A limit of 100 messages per day to *individual* customers only blocks the flow of vital information, and interpersonal exchange.

89. ACTON BATHS CLOSURE PETITION

Friends, fellow council tax payers and gym users
Did you know?

The council is planning to close this facility as early as the 4th of December 2011?

BUT:

•They have not published or responded to the results of the latest (July 2011) public consultation

•They have no final approved plans for the much lauded regeneration project

•They have no confirmed funding in place

•They have not applied for planning permission

•They have not found alternative facilities for some of the clubs and user groups (as promised) that have served the community for years!

If they are allowed to close this facility – YOUR FACILITY – without any of these commitments in place, we face the very real prospect of an abandoned and derelict building in the heart of our community and the absence of any pool or gym facilities in Acton for the foreseeable future.

90. MINUSTAH should withdraw from Haiti

The MINUSTAH, well known as The United Nations Stabilisation Mission In Haiti, has been in operation since 2004. A year of political crisis, violence and corruption, led to the resignation of the President Jean Bertrand Aristide. But now they are seen like a threat to the human rights, and also to the Haitian People.

"Haiti is in great danger because among others of Cholera, of the poverty the marginalization and of the exploitation of its people " said the Nobel Peace Argentin Adolfo Pérez Esquivel in an interview with the Latino channel TeleSur.

Numerous incidents of rape and other forms of violence have been reported by victims of MINUSTAH... from the 16 years old girl in 2006 to the Haitian teenager (male) in 2011.

Three Nobel Peace, led by the Nobel Adolfo Pérez Esquivel from Argentine, hundreds of NGOs, legislators and personalities of more than forty countries sent to the Secretary General a letter released yesterday in which they requested the withdrawal of international troops of Haiti.

Join the fight if you believe in Peace and want to change the actual situation of Haiti.
