1. Allow lllinois municipalities to make their own retirement benefit decisions for employees
The Problem?
The Illinois pension system is in jeopardy. If we continue to provide lavish, outdated pensions to newly-hired government employees, our state and local governments could be bankrupt in just a few years.
The Solution?
Give local government in Illinois an option that stops the flow of NEW EMPLOYEES into the current, broken pension system.
Allow Illinois municipalities to choose the retirement benefit they offer to new employees. They may provide new employees with the current pension system, or they may provide them with a 401(k)-style retirement plan.
2. High Schools specifically for kids diagnosed with Aspergers and High Functioning Autism
I am a parent of a five year old child diagnosed with High Functioning Autism (HFA).
Since my son was diagnosed with his condition mid last year, I have learnt that increasing numbers of children are being diagnosed with HFA and Aspergers Syndrome and these kids struggle to survive in mainstream education as they get older. This is because their different learning style, social isolation, acute anxiety and various sensory sensitivities leads to many not being able to reach their full academic potential in the mainstream setting and this is a real shame because these kids are extremely intelligent.
I have been disturbed by the amount of parents I am meeting with HFA & Aspergers primary school kids of various ages, who are saying that mainstream high school will not be an option for their kids and that they plan to home school for high school.
I have also been shocked to hear from parents of HFA and Aspergers kids who have already finished high school, say how traumatised their kids are after finishing school, having withstood years and years of relentless bullying and now they struggle to function in the adult world. I think that we need to get small high schools set up in Australia specifically for students with HFA or Aspergers. At the moment in Australia there seems to be no other social schooling options other than mainstream for the kids at the higher end of the autism spectrum.
Now that there is hard evidence that these kids brains are wired differently and they have a different learning style to their neurotypical peers, educators need to consider this option. I also think it is unfair that these kids have to put up with high school bullying (as the statistics are that 90% of kids with ASD's get bullied at mainstream high schools). I know that many high schools have special ed units in them but other than learning difficulties, the playground is where the main problems are and these kids are being permanently mentally damaged by being made to withstand our system and ‘fit the mould’.
I am of the view that having a few small high schools with a modified curriculum tailoring to Aspergers and HFA in each state, could really benefit these kids and if large ASD friendly companies (such as banks, engineering, IT type firms) got on board with sponsoring kids for on the job work experience programs as part of the curriculum, it could lead to them having a real chance at succeeding at life and being less traumatised by not having to put up with neurotypical bullies.
Other countries such as the US and UK already have these types of high schools available as an option.
I find it incredible that this has not occurred here yet.
If you agree please sign this petition and it will be delivered to the Australian Federal Government.
UPDATE - 9/4/10 - For people in NSW, I have been informed that there is currently a Parliamentary Inquiry being held into the education of students with disabilities and special needs and they will still accept submissions from the public. I will be making a submission and encourage everyone else to do so as well as this will be another great way for people in NSW to get your concerns heard. The link to the inquiry details is -

Also - If there is anyone who has a child with Aspergers / HFA currently struggling through mainstream high school and you are prepared to talk to the media please contact me via the petition link below as there has been some interest.
UPDATE 2/8/10 - The link to this petition has been forwarded on to all state education departments and federal ministers. I have received some correspondence back, generally saying that they have taken note of our concerns and will keep it in mind when formatting future policies. The petition will be closed down shortly after the federal election. Thanks to all for taking the time to sign it and I hope that we do see change in the not too distant future for all our kids sakes.
As most of you are aware, there was an incident back in June of 2009 where Sophie bit an elderly lady walking down the street in front of my house. Sophie was 14 months old, and UTD on vaccinations when this occurred. The lady that was bitten is not pressing charges and this is the first and only time that anything like this has ever happened.
The Dog Constable came to my house the following day and put Sophie in a very small cage, attached to the back of a car and drove away with her. While he was in my yard, I asked what the next steps were, and he informed me, (only after minutes of seeing her), since your dog has bitten someone, she will more than likely be euthanized. He did a 48 hour assessment on her (beginning the assessment only after 2 hours of taking her from my care, and travelling in a cage attached to the back of a car), and put in his report to the town. His conclusion was that she had fear aggression and that she was fearful of her surroundings, and that there is no way to tell how she will react if something scares her. The only option to protect the town was for her to be euthanized. They kept her for 12 days. I was not allowed to see her, and the town would not return her to me. As soon as I got a lawyer, things changed and I had her back home the following day.
For the last 7 months I have done everything in my power to assure the town that something like this will never happen again. I have put in a fence surrounding my yard, we complete weekly training sessions with renounced Animal Behaviorist, Andrew Turner, Sophie is being socialized on a regular basis, and is undergoing desensitizing for the things that she is fearful of. Sophie has made huge improvements and continuously strives to be a balanced dog. Just last week when I took Sophie for a walk, and there were 3 people and 3 dogs that we encountered on the walk, and she walked right by them. She is making improvements every day, and for someone to say, after doing a 48 hours assessment, that she is not trainable, “wired incorrectly” and the only option is euthanasia should not be in the position that he is in. How many other dogs have been put down because of his “authority”?
Because of this bogus report, by an unqualified individual there is a court date set for Feb. 16, 2010 at 1:00PM to decide the fate of Sophie. I am asking from the bottom of my heart that all of my friends please attend the hearing as support for Sophie.
4. Senior Pictures: Tivy High School's graduating class of 2010
In the past Tivy High School Seniors have had the option to submit what photos to use for their Senior Pictures.
Tivy High School graduating class of 2010 believes they too should be able to have this opportunity.
5. We want a Facebook "Dislike Option"
As human beings, many people would like the option to not just like, ignore or hide. We would like to dislike as well.
In 2007 Gabriel Dalgard was kidnapped. Since then the local and county officials have refused, without cause, to press charges against the non-custodial persons.
With the statue of limitations running out, and persons willing to enforce laws set in the books something must be done.
7. Stop L.A. County Wild Animal Killing
I am blessed to live in a beautiful neighbourhood, a peninsula with a hill surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, lots of trees, many wild living animals, peacocks, squirrels, raccoons, opossums, skunks of course and many more.
Two days ago I came home and noticed an Animal Control truck stopping behind my car in front of a neighbour’s home. The Animal Control officer took a cage and went into the home’s back yard. Shortly after he came back out with a little squirrel in the cage. Out of curiosity and because my inner voice told me to, I asked the officer, why he had the squirrel in the cage. This is what he told me:
The woman living on this property trapped the animal, because she was bothered by it. She then called Animal Control to send a truck for the pick up of this little critter. At this point I had to ask, what would happen to the squirrel now and was then told, that it would be brought to the Animal Control station to be put down.
I took a deep breath and asked if there was anything wrong with the squirrel, maybe it was sick or so. The officer then said, that there was nothing wrong with it, the woman just did not want the squirrel in her back yard and so, according to Los Angeles County policies, it had to be put down. I looked at the woman still waiting to see the animal go and she quickly closed her gate.
At this point I did what I had to do and started negotiating for the poor squirrel’s life. If this officer wouldn’t have released the squirrel in a park in the neighbourhood, I may have ended up in a straight jacket that evening. This lucky squirrel is still alive today but many other wild living animals, trapped by mean and selfish residents, who obviously still don’t understand the importance of a healthy ecosystem, are not anymore.
Thanks to the City of Palos Verdes, California, which allows residents to trap wild living animals. L.A. County offers support by renting traps to people for a fee, which also includes education and training on how to trap wild living animals properly. People then call Animal Control, they come, pick up, take along and kill.
A decision of the Board of Supervisors of L.A. County and the permission to trap make it possible.
We desperately try to save this planet and an ecosystem, which can collapse at any minute and this country fights the worst economy since the last depression.
And here Los Angeles County pays to kill wild animals that have done nothing wrong, not hurt anyone and are no danger to anybody - just because these animals are unfortunate to call their home some mean resident’s back yard, who has nothing better to do than to destroy our environment. Squirrels too are part of a sensitive ecosystem and so are raccoons, opossums, skunks, rattlesnakes, insects and many others.
California is bankrupt and our tax money is spent on Animal Control officers, having to go, get and kill. Did the L.A. Board of Supervisors get too much of the Californian sun before they came up with this?
I intend to fight this insanity, if you agree with me, please help and sign.
You can also help by investigating your own City/County’s policies to find out, if there are more such rules in other places. Together we can make a difference. It may take an effort and it may be inconvenient, but it is worth it. Not acting and accepting a madness like this is not an option for me. Hopefully it is not an option for you either.
Let’s get the ball rolling!
The “New School” at Stackpole Rd and High St has a projected cost of $20 Million – which is due to rise yearly. The cost to renovate Hilltop Elementary School has not been researched since 1999 (which was approximately $3.084 Million).
The cited reasons for a new school are overcrowding in Maplewood and the Middle School, and that Hilltop renovation isn’t worth taxpayers’ dollars. Former councilor Todd Marsh told Fosters that City Council was “making the decision [to buy the land for the New School] to have an option.”
Since that decision passed back in December 2007, it has remained the only option for the future of our children. An ad-hoc reuse committee was established for the sole purpose, as Mike Micucci puts it, of finding uses for Hilltop other than a school.
Consider this petition our demand for a second option – to find what it would cost to renovate/update Hilltop Elementary School.
9. READING PRIVILEGES ON 11-7 SHIFT
Nursing staff at this facility had their reading privileges suspended as a result of events that lead to this plan of correction. While this plan helps prevent said event from happening again, it also has placed a hardship on night shift.
Due to the nature of 11-7 shift, staff has inevitable down time between our rounds. Previously we had the option of quietly reading, which helped us stay alert. Without this option, we are finding it very difficult to keep ourselves alert. Our residents have the right to get their rest, which limits activities we might otherwise do to stay awake. They also need us on the hall, ready to respond if we ARE needed between rounds.
Might it be pointed out that there have been no previous problems caused by personal reading on 11-7 shift.
10. SJCC ECS Closures Letter to the Board
To all full-time ECS families:
We are all aware of the unprecedented number of full-day and 3pm school closures this year, and we have individually and collectively tried to work with the administration to revise this year's ECS calendar and increase the days of full-time care provided. Unfortunately, the solutions offered by the administration thus far have been unacceptable. Several families have come together to write a letter to the JCC Board of Directors to present at their next meeting on Tuesday, November 28th. We believe that the Board is unaware of the changes, and we are asking for their support in pursuading the ECS administraton to provide childcare during non-holiday closures. We are also hoping that the Board will help ensure that such calendar issues are avoided in the future.
Please review the attached letter and indicate your support by signing via this online petition tool. It is critical that we (full-time families) present a unified voice to the administration and to the board. We are circulating the letter to nine full-time classrooms and anticipate strong support.
Thanks in advance for your support. And please feel free to contact any of the letter's authors with feedback or questions.
Shalom,
Liz Friedman, Lam Nguyen, Deborah Schneider, Rachel Schwartz, and Ilyse Wagner
11. ECS closures
This e-petition is exclusively for parents of full-time ECS children at the SJCC.
It is a letter to the SJCC Board, to call their attention to the unacceptable number of ECS closures, and to ask for their help in addressing the issue.
12. Keep Class Rank and Pass/Fail Option
May 4, 2006
This pertition will begin in May of 2006 in order to keep class rank and the pass-fail option as it currently stands.
13. Support Option D in Issaquah redistricting
The Issaquah School district has begun a fast-track redistricting plan.
We are concerned that several of the plans do not do what is best for the students of Issaquah and Sammamish and encourage people to support plan D which uses the new highland school more effectively and keeps students together much more cohesively.
14. Relocation of Santa Barbara Comunity Academy to the campus of La Cumbre Junior High
The Santa Barbara Community Academy no longer has adequate space at its current campus, 215 East Ortega St. The School Board has decided it will no longer support and move forward with plans to expand the current campus. A option presented was to possible move a portion of the SBCA to the campus of La Cumbre Junior High. Having already experienced negative effects of a split campus this option is not ideal and is not supported.
Currently there are 18 empty classrooms at LaCumbre Junior High and existing land surrounding the school where the Academy's portables and other empty portables in the district could be moved. The campus has a auditorium and cafeteria in addition to much more adequate playground facilities.
15. Outsmart & Stop The Hackers at Neopets !!!
Dear Neopets,
It has always been a known fact that people try to scam/crack people out of their passwords. But now it seems like too big of a problem. The idea of adding the security code estinguished the cracking option that hackers did have. But it seems that other people have the whitts to outsmart people out of their password, & neopet glitches occur, what we are proposing will also greatly lessen the option of this.
We, the people of neopets propose that; The Neopets Team would put a lock on the profile page also placing the link of the self freeze site only inside the profile page, which would mean that any information cannot be changed without a proper code designated at signup and something that only an email could retrive w/ a special retrive password page. And, without knowing the 2nd password to access the profile page.
The, "hackers/scammers", cannot see the e-mail in the account to e-mail hack their account. Only the person/owner of the account will know what it was they signed up with. This would stop hackers from password changing (locking out the actual owner from saving their account & any prefrences edited without the knowledge of the owner. Also, from freezing the account they are hacking. This would sae you all alot of headaches, time and begging E-mails when hackers attack.
The 2nd password page, to gain access to the profile site, mentioned earlier would require a question that the owner of the account creates (to help make it easy for them to remember, but not hackers to know. On opening an account they would section from a dropdown a list of personal questions, easy for the owner to know, hard for a hacker. i.e-
Who was my best friend since 1st grade?
Let's just say the answer is ashley so when you go to retrieve any settings you would have to type to that answer (ashley) to be able to access the profile page. This protects hackers from seeing our birthday and e-mail etc.. so, they cant try to E-mail the account saying its theres with our private information.. later on after hacking us..
In addition, that When you make this option, neopets has a e-mail sent to everyone with current active accounts for an activation of our 2nd password for our profile page. The activation have Question Options to chose from like 6 different ones. - i.e. What is your mothers birth State. Then you type in your answer -ex. Idaho.. Then, submit to active - Now this answer is the only way you can getinto the profile. Hackers will never be able to see your profile only you. ON this page there be a resend 2nn profile password. When it shows the next page - this page ask two questions - what is your birthday and your zipcode. Then and only then if you answer right (as noone see's your birthday - its in your profile -) it will only then send to your e-mail. Protecting all of neopia and stopping hackers and even scammers.
In conclusion, Neopets we write you this because we want the hacking to stop. Neopets is just a game to most but to some of us its a different life where all of our friends are. If you took in effect, it would immensly increase the complication to hack our accounts. If they did get in, we are still able to stop them!
16. AT&T & ABC Consumer Addressibility Improvement
The current state of the broadcasting industry is not immediately held liable for content and other intellectual property issues known to cause severe brain damage and mental illness. This petition would establish a plausible option for residential parties and consumers to generate inquire concerning content, thematic inference and other causes of particular conditions such as parkinson's disease, alzhimer's disease and even some forms of schizophrenia.
Regulatory issues would include:
1) Launching a full scale internet service operation for all national regions
(FCC-AT&T);
2) Introduce the Medicaid/Medicare coverage plan which would allow a co-pay option for partial internet access (SSI-SSA);
3) Create a national broadcast community in which forums and other programming are recognized by the US Congress under meritious and technical basis. (FCC-ABC)
17. Nextel MO-SMS
We the Subscribers, Petition Nextel to offer Consumers the ability to send and receive Mobile Oriented Text Messages; it is a great inconvenience to use the "NET" option to send and receive Two way messages.
This is a petition to gather support for Boston Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein to decline the 2004 option on manager Grady Little. Signatories of this petition are Red Sox fans who wish to lend their voice to the growing chorus pointing out that Grady Little is unfit to manage a major league baseball club.
The ALCS Game 7 fiasco is only the crowning moment on two years of inept managing, especially with the pitching staff. The Red Sox fans below are sick and tired of it and admonish Theo to do the right thing and let Grady walk away. There are many better options out there and we have faith in Theo to find us a true winner.
If you are a part of any MSN Communities or MSN Groups...you should know that the people in charge of the site are called "Managers". In accordance with the Equal Rights Act of 1923 in summary states;
"Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex."
Having only the option of "Manager" is violating this Act and we ask that the option of "Manageress" or an option to create your own name be established.
This petition is written in response to the members of Glen Clove wanting a short, precise, concise option to vote on issue concerning Glen Clove Homeowner's Ass.
21. Allow Abortion!
Since Republicans have been in office, the US has seen several abortion clinics shut down due to funding cuts. Abortion should bean option for those who feel it is neccessary.
We should take the time to education women whoa re considering abortions on all the side effects it will have, but regardless, it should be an option for them. If someone is against abortion, they don't have to have one, but who is our government to decide whether or not abortions should be legal?
I strongly support president Bush and everything he is doing for this country, but until he becomes a scared and pregnant woman considering abortion, he shouldn't touch this issue and should not be cutting the funds for abortions, making them harder to get.
22. Make Sindy reply at Sindy.com
At Sindy.com you are given the option to send Sindy an e-mail, perhaps for comments, suggestions etc, and i think that it is unfair that she will not respond to you. If you don't want to respond to our mail, then why do you give people the option to email you?
The least she could send is an automatic e-mail, at least thanking the person for their comments, after people take up their time and effort to e-mail her. This petition is just to bring awareness to this, and show that even small things, like an e-mail from a child's play-thing, can mean so much to certain people, and considering that she is in constant competition with Barbie, you'd think that she would at least show appreciation to those who favour her over Barbie.
Sindy...tut tut. You'd think that after people bother to take up their time and effort to go onto her website(www.sindy.com) and e-mail her, that she could at least reply!! Even if it is just a mail-merged automatic e-mail!! When i sent her an e-mail, and the message came up saying that she wouldn't respond, i was very annoyed, and i'm sure there are others out there who feel the same. This may seem a bit petty, but to her millions of loving fans and customers who buy her dolls, it is rather a disappointment...so bear this in mind, and sign the petition!!
Exercise your right to expect appreciation of the highest quality when you take up your time to write so someone!! (Or in this case, a multi-million dollar company, who i'm sure could spare a few words here and there to give thanks to their adoring e-mailers!!)
23. Glivec should be placed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme
Nicholas Poulos is 30 years of age with a wife and 20 month old daughter. Nick was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia in the Chronic Phase in April Last year. Nick's only options for remission are the drugs Interferon, the new drug Glivec or a bone marrow transplant. As he has no suitable donor at the moment for a bone marrow transplant this is not an option.
Unfortunately Nick is intolerant to the drug Interferon as he suffered an extreme adverse reaction resulting in him being hospitalised.
This leaves Glivec as the only option unless a suitable donor is found for a transplant.
Glivec is only available under the Federal Government's Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme for patients with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia in the Accelerated or Blast phase. The accelerated phase is when the disease is developing more quickly. The Blast phase is the final stage of Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia and patients in this phase would have only a matter of months to live.
Obviously we do not wish to wait for him to reach this stage. Currently the cost of Glivec is $4000.00 per month.
24. Keyboard Power Up for Abit KT7/KG7 motherboards
Keyboard System Activation is a feature that has been around for quite some time now that less-expensive motherboards have supported. For some reason, it has been left out by Abit in the motherboards of late.
I have owned a Abit KT7-Raid motherboard, a KT7A, and now a KG7 motherboard. None of the bios versions for these boards offerred the option to enable Keyboard activation. If they do have this feature, then please email me and I'll remove the petition imediately. Thanks and sign away if you'd like to see this feature added!
