2. Save The Green Park From Huge Monument

A planning application for a very large memorial monument in The Green Park threatens this natural open space.

The Green Park, which is unique, and for centuries a natural parkland, is threatened by a proposal to build a huge memorial in it, bordering Piccadilly. It would stretch for 85m from Hyde Park Corner, with a building half way down. It would mean the loss of natural habitat, the grassland, the hedge and some mature trees. It would change forever the precious separation between surrounding developments and that sense of escape, peace and calm in the park. The proposal contravenes many Planning Policies on Open Space, design and within ‘an area of too many memorials’ etc.

The memorial, which has gained very substantial financial and other support, would be to the 55,573 members of Bomber Command who died in the defence of the Nation in WW2 and are remembered in the RAF church of St Clement Danes in the Strand, and on many memorials all over the country. It is not right that this emotive cause should result in the destruction of some of this precious parkland. A possible and a preferred location in Central London would be on the Embankment near the Battle of Britain and the National RAF memorials.

If you feel as we do, that all London's open spaces, their trees and wildlife habitats must be protected against development, and The Green Park in particular, please register your objection to this Planning Application by signing this Petition. We will submit it to The Bomber Command Association, asking them to withdraw it; To Mike Gray, South Area Planning Officer at Westminster City Council (Ref: 10/00926/FULL) and also to the Prime Minister, who will have the final decision.

The Council will be making their first decision early in April so please act soon. Thank you for your help.

3. 1935 Kalakala nomination as a National Landmark or Monument

The 1935 MV Kalakala structure (vessel), "World's First Streamline Art Deco Ferry", is a story filled with State and National levels of significances and maritime heritage.

She has touched millions of hearts and souls around the world, and filled them with a sense of wonder and awe. Since the State of Washington retired her in 1967 she has been written off by politics. And, since 1998 the Kalakala has returned to Seattle to be preserved with public and private efforts. But not any public support has been able to be generated.

Today, the Kalakala Alliance Foundation is taking the efforts to the President of the United States of America. And, is going to ask him to sign the Antiquity Act to protect her and her 200 years of maritime history.

Her scientific, engineering, and social impacts around the world will finally be respected. Her cultural impacts to our states and nation will no longer be suppressed. And, our nations maritime heritage significances and her physical marvels will become a National Landmark if the Antiquity Act is signed by our President.

Please visit our website www.kalakala.org for more information. And follow the journey related to the Kalakala's Hope across America. Steve Rodrigues is travelling across our nation gathering stories for the President. And, Hopes to meet with President Obama on/before May 27, 2010 at the White House to request signing the Antiquity Act to protect both a homeport known as Washington Street Boat Landing, and the Kalakala both to be recognized as "National Landmarks".

4. Build ‘The Good Immigrant’ monument

In 1840’s 780 000 of Irish emigrated to the United States of America, many others to Great Britain or Australia and in 1850’s another million of Irish sons and daughters left their country to make a living abroad.

Between 1850 and 1930 Irish emigrants to USA reached 4 million in total, however, after successful economic reforms which took place in mid 1980 Ireland started its fast economic growth at the beginning of 1990 and since 1st May 2004 when ten new countries joined the European Union a Great Immigration Wave flooded Ireland.

Immigrants from Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Russia, Ukraine and also from many Asian and African countries are important part of Irish society.

On the basis of the Central Statistical Office (CSO) data, between 2002 and 2007, 920 000 applications were submitted to get a PPS number – 390 000 by Polish (120 000 relocated from Great Britain to Republic of Ireland) and 530 000 from other countries immigrants. As a matter of fact, each and every migration movement works both ways and many foreigners leave Ireland.

According to CSO at the end of 2007 there was 423 000 immigrants employed in Ireland which was nearly 10% of the Green Island’s society. Immigrants rent over 100 000 houses and flats, allot few billion euros as an income tax and even more as VAT included in almost all products or services. 95% of immigrants do the least paid, hardest and dirtiest kinds of jobs. But that is life of an immigrant in every country.

A Good Immigrant is a person between 20 and 30 years of age, not relying on the Social Welfare Benefit, paying all taxes and being an essential part of the economy circulation. It is worth reminding that young people rarely use Irish health system. As in every flock, there can be found a black sheep among immigrants also. That is why a good shepherd is needed (good system) so as to separate the wheat from the chaff. An immigrant is usually a good, healthy man, who decides to leave his own country to find better living conditions which means he is courageous, resourceful and ingenious.

Taking into consideration the population decline taking place in Western European countries but also and more often in Eastern European ones the injection of nearly half million immigrants may turn out to be essential, however, there should be found by the government some innovative methods to deepen a social integration with Irish society. It is a fact that learning a foreign language or becoming familiar with countries’ history and culture or adjusting to its norms, tradition and customs is a duty of a Good Immigrant. How much easier, however, would it be to communicate if natives wanted to get to know basic information about countries where their neighbours come from?

A worth knowing fact and argument for building ‘The Good Immigrant’ monument is that such a project hasn't been undertaken anywhere in the world before while migration is a mass phenomenon having global dimensions.

The main element of the enterprise is a word as ‘in the beginning there was the word....’ ‘The Word’ then is:
‘...and if you knew me
And if you could understand me
Then you would respect me...’

And the expected response will be reflection. Reflection of every good man.

Another argument for proceeding with the whole project is deepening recession because of tension with an ethnic background being the recesion's result.

After informing mass media in Ireland, Poland as well as in other countries the project will live its own life being the same way a nationwide advertisement for Kilkenny city itself and it can bring forth in the future discussion on how to avoid the risk of intolerance.

Yes, dear counsellors of city and county Kilkenny, now is a time to test ourselves and show that we can cooperate.

5. Save The Recreational Fisherman

President Bush is considering using the American Antiquities Act of 1906 to create marine national monuments in our offshore waters. These waters encompass some of our most prolific fishing areas thus creating large marine protected areas(MPAs) that we the American public will never be able to fish again.

This will have devastating impact to the local economy. With the President's signature alone this act will undermine the democratic system our country is founded on, not to mention overriding the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation Act that requires a public process, ongoing review, and input from all user groups in order to create a marine restricted area.

The areas that are being considered are high spots, ridges, and reefs in The Gulf of Mexico, East Coast of Florida, Georgia, Carolinas, and Pacific Ocean Island areas.

The goal of this petition is to let President Bush know that we DO NOT APPROVE of his use of the Antiquities Act to manage our fisheries and oceans as they are complex and require a more science based approach.

6. Save The Ten commandments

The first amendment: " Congress shall make now laws prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Two court cases will be held before the supreme court to hear the ruling and to make a decision on the rules of publicly displaying the Ten Commandments.

The large Texas cases took form in 2002 when a homeless atheist man named Thomas Van Orden passed by the monument, which sits next to the American Flag, American Eagle, and other religious symbols subscribed by Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and charged it of being an unconstitutional establishment of religion. The federal district court rejected his argument, ruling the state's reasons for placing the monument were clearly secular. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit also upheld the decision in 2003, and Van Orden appealed the decision to the Supreme Court.

The out come of this case will inevitably change the way the Christian religion is held in this country. The ruling of making the ten commandments illegal to have in government buildings will trickle down to it being illegal to having them displayed anywhere in public. This will most likely lead to crosses being taken down off the sides of churches and the ultimate concealment of the whole Christian faith! This clearly violates the first amendment the courts are saying the ruling would be supporting.

Please help justice prevail in this court and help protect ALL religions in this great nation we reside in. Please take time to sign this petition and put forth an effort to keep the Ten Commandments in view of all onlookers.

7. Keep Texas' Ten Commandments

Texas' capitol building grounds in Austin has a monument depicting the Ten Commandments on it -- on public property.

The Supreme Court will "rule" whether or not this is legal or not (more than likely, if Alabama & Roy Moore are a reminder, it will be "illegal"), so I've come up with an idea: students and concerned citizens who cherish our republican form of government who live in and around Ellis County, Texas (Waxahachie-county seat) must band together to fight for our U.S. Constitutional rights of free speech and the free exercise thereof.

There is nothing in the U.S. Constitution that prohibits a state from displaying a Ten Commandments monument, just as there is not a restriction barring construction workers from having portable bathrooms in public.

This petition serves as a voice for those who believe that this is a free speech issue.

8. Save QMC - Intervene to Prevent Demolition

Kindly intervene to prevent demolition of the famed womens college in Chennai - Queen Marys College - in the guise of building a new Secretariat for Government of Tamilnadu. At a time when the State is facing a financial crunch and Government Employees are made to pay for the follies of the political bosses, spending crores of public money for a new Secretariat is a crime.

QMC is a historical monument. I have had the privalage of seeing it and enthralled by its services. This monument is definetely not in a bad shape as the politicians claim. Spending a few lakhs of rupees will make this institution fit for many more years to come.

We depend on your enthusiasm to create an educated and liberated India to stop this atrocious act of demolishing a heritage monument for petty and selfish gains.

More than 15,000 pro-independence supporters staged a peaceful protest in the West Papuan town of Manokwari on July 30 to mark the 1969 "Act of Free Choice" which resulted in West Papua's "integration" with Indonesia. Protesters covered a monument commemorating the referendum with black cloth saying it was "a monument to a historical lie".
