1. Community Support for L.E. Giles & Sons
L.E Giles & sons have been operational in Trafalgar for over 60 Years. A business with a wonderful reputation which has employed many local people in a small town for many years and has provided a service to the wider community in providing a place for farmers and the likes to get their livestock slaughtered for consumption in a facility that complies with the Australian Standards.
The Giles family are upstanding members of the community and are looked upon highly for their generosity and kindness to the people of the area.
As you may be aware in recent times there was an incident at the abattoirs where an Animal Activist deceitfully gained entry onto the kill floor something the Giles family have always allowed for students learning.
They filmed an act of cruelty this is not denied but the handling of the matter by the governing body PrimeSafe has been appalling and has had severe repercussions before a full enquiry was allowed to take place. As stated above L.E. Giles & sons have been in operation for over 60 years without incident but this one incident has caused the closure of a very valuable asset to our community and its surrounds.
Hunting whales has dated back to 3000BC and should have been made illegal years ago. The ocean is their home just like the land is ours, they did nothing to hurt us so why should we kill them?
They are beautiful creatures and they will become extinct if you ignore all the petitions people are making to get your attention.
3. Ban the forcing of Halal meat on to the People of Great Britain!
!!!PLEASE BE SURE TO CLICK ON "SIGN PETITION" AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE!!!!
The killing of animals is a shame but as the slaughter of animals is necessary to feed the many millions of meat eaters living in Great Britain it is vital that these animals are slaughtered in the most humane (Painless) way possible.
In a FSA approved slaughter house all animals are stunned prior to slaughter so the animal feels no pain or suffering at all.
But in a FSA exempt slaughter houses I.e Halal slaughter houses animal are not stunned prior to slaughter. Slaughter is carried out with a single cut to the throat, rather than the more widespread method of stunning with a bolt into the head before slaughter. Under Islamic law, an animal must be slaughtered by having its throat cut while it is conscious. The person carrying out the killing has to recite an Arabic verse at the time. Campaign group the Christian Institute, said: ‘The idea of having Islamic ritual said over meat would be objectionable to some Christians. I would find it objectionable, so it should be labelled as Halal.’
The Farm Animal Welfare Council (FAWC), which advises the government on how to avoid cruelty to livestock, says the way Halal meat is produced causes severe suffering to animals. They say “cattle can take up to two minutes to bleed to death - amounting to severe pain and distress to the animals”.
The RSPCA believes that religious beliefs and practise should be respected but also believe that animals should only be slaughtered under the most humane conditions.
Halal food is everywhere. According to recent news reports, it is being "secretly" snuck into your sandwich or fed to your child in their school dinner. It's also found in hospital canteens, pubs, sporting venues and most fast food out lets.
Britain's biggest supermarket chains are selling Halal lamb and chicken without telling unsuspecting shoppers. Those stocking meat slaughtered according to Islamic law include Waitrose, Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Somerfield and the Co-op. But the UK’s second-biggest supermarket, Asda, has refused to confirm or deny whether it sells Halal meat.
Most lamb imported from New Zealand by British supermarkets has been slaughtered according to Islamic law, but this is not mentioned on packaging. Some lamb from British abattoirs is also Halal.
The country’s biggest hotel and restaurant group, Whitbread– which owns the Beefeater and Brewers Fayre chains – was also selling Halal food, as were well-known sporting venues such as Ascot, Twicken¬ham and Wembley.
The Jewish faith have a similar slaughter method call Shechita but there are no Shechita slaughter houses in the UK. Members of the Jewish faith respect our laws and import their own Shechita meat to be sold only in registered Jewish supermarkets.
Why is it that a blind eye is being turned to the Halal labelling of food? Because it is politically correct not to say anything about it incase it offends the Islamic community within Britain?
Sorry but that is wrong. Halal products and outlets must be labelled so that the general public can have a choice. Why force it upon people. Why can it not be treated the same as Shechita meat! Well labelled and sold only in Jewish shops! If followers of Islam want Halal meat why can they not do the same as Members of the Jewish faith?
PLEASE SIGN IF YOU WANT YOUR MEAT LABELLED!
Late at night while peacefully grazing, thousands of kangaroos are faced with the threat of being hunted for their meat or skins.
These quiet herbivorous creatures which are an important part of the Australian ecosystem and have become part of Australia’s huge landscape for thousands of years are brutally killed for nothing other than profit. The killing of kangaroos has been described as the largest global massacre of wildlife in the world. The largest killing is taking place right here in Australia right now!
Millions of kangaroos are killed each year in Australia for their meat or skin as I mentioned before. The slaughter occurs in the most brutal way, most of the time, the kangaroos are still alive after they’ve been shot, and are dragged through the dirt in such awful pain and hung up by their feet. Kangaroos are not the only ones who get affected by this slaughter, so do the joeys. If the joeys are left in their mothers pouch, the killers rip it out by its delicate legs, and throw it on the ground, violently stomping on their heads and bodies just like a kid would do to a bug leaving their bodies crushed with pain. If the Joey isn’t stomped on, the killer just tosses the baby Joey onto the ground, so that any predator, whether it’s ants or dogs, can eat it alive. The orphaned older Joeys that don’t end up dying, are either killed completely, or sold into the cruel wildlife pet trade to spend the rest of their lives in cages as “entertainment”.
The scene is repeated all night long. Older joeys may hop away when their mothers are shot as the Joey dies a slow and lonely death from cold or starvation. This is the reality of kangaroo killing. But the killing continues.
The shooters are supposed to legally wound the kangaroo by a single shot to the head to avoid suffering, many kangaroos are shot in the jaw, neck, or chest, which causes enormous suffering. The pouch dependant joeys are ripped from their dead mothers pouch and either hit over the head with a metal pipe - a practice that is considered acceptable by the Australian government.
The Kangaroo has been a part of Australian history long before European settlement; it is seen on the Australian coat of arms, the fifty cent and one dollar coins and is the mascot of Australia’s largest Airline Qantas – However, the Australian government still allows the slaughter of several million kangaroos a year. The dead bodies of these beautiful animals are exported all over the world. Australia exports approximately 3 million kangaroo skins each year – mainly to Europe and the USA. Kangaroo skins are used to make handbags, wallets, sports gloves and mitts, golf bags, shoes (including athletic football boots and cycling shoes) coin purses, beer can holders, and other ridiculous products.
Lots of rumours go around about the kangaroos but most of them are just lies and reasons to shoot these innocent kangaroos and just so the government gets his way with money. But what is written below is no lie and is proven.
Myth - Kangaroos destroy wheat crops
A four year study by CSIRO(Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation) found that 95 per cent of wheat crops are never visited by kangaroos. Yet farmers and the Australian government still refer to kangaroos as pests. "Pests is an emotive word. It conjures up visions of animals destroying crops. I can think of no situations where this is likely to be true for kangaroos." (Dr. Graham Arnold, CSIRO) In fact, commercial killing takes place in the outback where crops are never grown.
Myth - Kangaroos compete with sheep for grazing
A six-year study by Dr Steven McLeod (NSW Agriculture) - the biggest ever undertaken - examined whether red kangaroos affected sheep farming. It found that there was no competition for food between sheep and red kangaroos and that the presence of kangaroos had no negative impact on the number of lambs born to the flock, nor their size.
Myth - Killing kangaroos helps preserve them
The kangaroo massacre destroys the process of natural selection. The repeated targeting of the 'alpha' males, the largest and fittest animals (who provide the industry with the big skins they want), means younger, smaller animals are left to breed, weakening the gene pool. "This has the potential to cause the extinction of a number of species". (Dr Ian Gunn, Animal Gene Storage Resource Centre of Australia.) Australia has the worst wildlife record in the world - six species of kangaroos extinct, four more extinct on the Australian mainland, 17 species endangered or vulnerable.
Myth - The killing is strictly controlled
No one monitors, let alone controls, the killing in the field. Kangaroos are shot at night in the vast outback, far away from public scrutiny. The Code of Practice for the Humane Shooting of Kangaroos, which hunters are supposed to adhere to, is a guideline document, not a law, and is not even linked to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. In order to obtain a licence to kill kangaroos commercially, all hunters have to do is read the Code, 'understand' it, and pass a one-day marksmanship course. "Shooters often have a thorough contempt for the law. They commit cruelty on a regular basis." (Dr John Auty, veterinary scientist and former Chief Agronomist).
Myth - Kangaroos are killed to save the environment
Kangaroos are an integral part of Australia's environment. They have evolved to live in harmony with the fragile landscape and often hostile weather conditions. Destruction of the environment comes from 160 million hard-hoofed sheep and cattle.
Myth - Kangaroos are in plague proportions
Kangaroos have never been a plague. They have been wiped out in many regions. In others, their numbers build up in order to withstand the regular droughts which wipe out half the population. Kill quotas for 2001 were 5.5 million, for 2002 7 million and for 2003 6.5million (the figure has decreased only because the government has had to acknowledge the sheer number of kangaroos who are dying in the drought that Australia is currently in the midst of). The official quota ignores joeys, road deaths, illegal and non-commercial kills. This annual death toll could amount to 10 million - a patently unsustainable figure.
Fact - The kangaroo industry exists in its own right - to make money by slaughtering the animals for their meat and skins. The meat and leather is promoted and marketed around the world to earn valuable foreign currency. Having built an industry with political clout, self interest will ensure it carries on killing, whatever its impact on kangaroos.
- Ways you can help:
Show your support to encourage people to let these poor kangaroos into their natural habitat in Australia and not rotting on the ground or even in boxing rings! And the best way to help is not to purchase any kangaroo meat or leather. And finally, demand an end to the biggest massacre of wild animals in the world.
No animals, whether human or beast should be forced to live a life they don’t want to live, or killed for selfish reasons. We should be sharing our resources and learning to live in harmony, not destroying the original inhabitants because we selfishly want the land for our own purposes and it just isn’t funny, imagine how scared they must be, all the noise and pain, we need to stand up and say this is not right, this is cruelty to Kangaroos, and remember this, animals have feelings too.
Canada is the #4 biggest polluter on earth, yet has a relatively small population. Canada reputation for being a dinosaur in the Climate Crisis must change ASAP.
This petition calls for Canadian officials to take immediate action by adopting “Meat Free Mondays” and promoting the many health and environmental benefits of the pure vegetarian (vegan) lifestyle to the general public
LIVESTOCK’S ROLE IN GLOBAL WARMING IS HUGE
According to a 2006 report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of The United Nations (FAO), entitled “Livestock's Long Shadow”: The FAO report found that livestock production causes 18 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions, including nine percent of all carbon dioxide emissions, 37 percent of methane and 65 percent of nitrous oxide which is 296 times more potent than CO2 as a global warming gas. According to Dr. Kirk Smith, a member of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and professor at University of California-Berkeley, methane is 100 times more potent than CO2 within 5 years of being emitted.
Scientists across the globe have recognized that climate change is happening so fast, human civilization is under threat if we don’t do something within the next few years to significantly reverse the trend of global warming. At the same time, researchers have also realized that although CO2 is the most prevalent gas by weight, even if we were to achieve a zero carbon economy today, the earth will continue to warm hundreds if not thousands of years.
For this reason, if we want to preserve the planet for our children’s generation, we need to reduce those gases and aerosols causing the greatest effect on global warming in the short term, thus giving us time to develop CO2 reduction technologies that can be commercially deployed.
RAPID PLANETARY COOLING SOLUTIONS:
In March 2009, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stated that in order to achieve rapid cooling in the short term, we need to reduce methane, ozone (the second most prevalent gas after methane), and black carbon. Reducing the consumption of animal products is the single fastest way to reduce these emissions.
• Reduce Methane: Livestock are the single largest source of human-caused methane in the US and on the planet, and 2/3 of it dissipates from the atmosphere in about 10 years. Note also that the IPCC estimated that even if we were to change the feed of animals and capture methane from manure lagoons, by 2030 we would only reduce 9 percent of the methane from agriculture, so these methods are not viable options for seriously reducing emissions rapidly.
• Ozone, the third most prevalent gas after methane, and CO2, depends upon methane as a building block. Because it dissipates out of the atmosphere in a few hours or days, as soon as we reduce breeding of livestock and the numbers decrease due to lower demand, we will see planetary cooling within hours or days.
• Black carbon is 800 times more potent than CO2, and NASA scientists have begun to realize black carbon plays a role in the melting of the Arctic and Antarctic. Brazilian scientists measuring black carbon in Antarctica found greater levels of black carbon than NASA estimated, and estimated 70 percent of it came from South America, where the single largest source of black carbon is the burning of the rainforests to create crops and grazing for livestock. Livestock are responsible for over 80% of Amazon destruction in Brazil.
MEAT REDUCTION AROUND THE GLOBE
Ghent, Belgium has shown leadership and recognized the importance of promoting vegetarianism as a solution to addressing climate change and reducing its carbon footprint by ask its citizens to go meatless one day a week.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8046970.stm
Other countries and institutions are also recognizing the need to promote pure vegetarianism (veganism). The United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS) will be cutting meat (and dairy) from the menus of hospitals across the UK in an effort to cut costs and carbon. Its one part of NHS hospitals strategy to reduce carbon emissions throughout the hospital system.
Following Paul McCartney's Meat Free Monday mission in the UK, Israeli restaurants are also participating in going veggie for at least one day a week.

VEGAN RESTAURANTS ARE BOOMING DUE TO STRONG DEMAND
Most people have become aware of the health promoting effects of a plant-based diet, and want to reduce their consumption of animal products but 1) subsidies make meat and dairy cheaper and 2) restaurants do not offer them enough vegan options to delight their palate. Their desire is reflected in the growth of vegan restaurants and vegan options in food service.
In spite of the economic downturn, Restaurant & Institution Magazine has noted in several articles in the last year that vegan restaurants are booming.
Cruzer Pizza in Los Angeles demonstrated this dramatically in May 2009 when they added vegan cheese and veggie meats as pizza toppings and their sales went up by 63 percent in one month.
ENDING WORLD HUNGER
If you want to stop 1 billion people from going hungry at night each day; If you want to stop the needless deaths taking place every 5 seconds due to starvation then a vegan lifestyle is the solution to solve these dyer diet driven situations due to the inefficient use of resources directed towards animal agriculture. Grain currently fed to livestock is enough to feed 2 billion people. According to a recent report by Compassion in World Framing, "[c]rops that could be used to feed the hungry are instead being used to fatten animals raised for food." It takes up to 16 pounds of grain to produce just 1 pound of edible animal flesh.
Animal agriculture is having detrimental impacts on the health of the environment as well as on human health; thus reducing our consumption of this carbon and methane intensive product as an effective solution to halt climate change.
So please sign this petition and forward it to you friends and family.

In recent headlines, the city of Ghent in Belgium has taken steps to reduce its carbon footprint and has made the brave decision to ask its citizens to go meatless one day a week. Every Thursday will be veggie day.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8046970.stm
According to a 2006 report by the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), entitled Livestock's Long Shadow: it stated that livestock production is responsible for 18 percent of all greenhouse gas (ghg)emissions which is more than all the cars, trains and planes combined. However a recent report published by the World Watch Institute stated that the livestock sector is responsible for 51% of all greenhouse gases.
Due to the impact that meat has on the environment, we need to reduce our consumption of this carbon intensive product as an effective solution to the climate change crisis. This petition calls for Taiwanese officials to take action now that will show Taiwan’s commitment to tackling Climate Change.
We urge the government to promote every Monday as a day when the citizens of Taiwan will abstain from meat products in an effort to protect the environment and halt global warming.
We call on everyone’s support in expressing to Taiwanese officials the need for Taiwan to adopt and promote a meat free Monday.
So please sign this petition and forward it to your friends and family.
7. Reading's weekly veggie day
The Belgium town of Ghent is the first town in the world to go vegetarian at least once a week. There will be a regular weekly meatless day, in which civil servants and elected councillors will opt for vegetarian meals. Schoolchildren will follow suit with their own veggie day.
It is hoped the move will cut Ghent's environmental footprint and help tackle obesity. Around 90,000 so-called "veggie street maps" have printed to help people find the city's vegetarian eateries. The British city of Liverpool is also following Ghent's lead. We would like Reading to also become vegetarian once a week.
If Reading's citizens went vegetarian one day a week that would save the equivalent of 25,000 tons of CO2 p.a. (that's the same as removing 8300 cars from the roads). If they went vegan (no diary or eggs) then that would be nearly 50,000 tons (that's 16,600 cars!). This initiative would also have a very beneficial effect on our citizens health.

9. End cruelty to animals for meat!
Each year, millions of animals worldwide are slaughtered and kept in horrific conditions for meat.
Slaughter men don't care about the animals, it's just MONEY to them. Animals feel pain too!
i personally dont hate vegetarians its just that how come the meat eaters are the ones how get shunned for eating meat (by vegetarians) and have to always acompany for then and how come we don't always get the same respect back?????
