1. No More Media Bias

The mainstream media is full of leftist bias, reporting only what serves to further their statist agenda.

Worse is the media's bias against Israel, condemning them for defending themselves, while subsequently ignoring the true terror perpetuated by the Arab and Islamic communities.

2. Support Jewish Radio Programming

SBS plans to discontinue Yiddish and Hebrew programming during the summer. This is part of cuts across the board, including 15 other language programmes run through SBS.

The Jewish radio has long been a central component of Jewish civil society, representing a link between Jewish communities dispersed throughout the world, their mother-language and their cultural identity.

4. STOP Palestinian state grab at the UN

This September 2011, the Palestinian Authority, in clear contravention of peace agreements entered into with the State Israel, will seek United Nations recognition of “Palestine” on lands still in dispute, without bilateral agreement.

In light of this unilateral action, Israel has no choice but to respond unilaterally should the Palestinian Authority commit this violation.

Egyptian-Belgian journalist Khaled Diab is now hosting my article about this letter at his website, The Chronikler. See chronikler.com/middle-east/egypt/mazel-tov/. It's written from a personal perspective, and it introduces the letter, some of your comments and helpful links.

Please keep me updated if you have a media lead, though--we are still a ways from the mainstream.

If you are willing to sponsor ad space for this effort (no amount too great or small), or have any media connections or suggestions, please contact my message box or EgyptLetterResponse [at] yahoo [dot] com immediately.

As I promote this letter, I am also promoting The Children of Liberty music video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6eW_V3ph94. Very moving!

Please add your own individual well-wishes in the comments; you may find them featured in further media! My apologies to commenters that for whatever reason do not get as much attention. If you wish to modify or add a comment, please contact me.

Note, this is not actually a petition but a letter of support. There is no advocacy here, only a show of solidarity at this critical time. Whatever your opinion on the best practical outcome in this situation, for Egyptians, Jews, or the rest of the world, please join in simply speaking our compassion, lending heartening moral support, and making a much needed show of good faith. This letter proudly spans across political, religious, and geographic spectrums.

7. Save the Od Yoseph Chai Yeshiva from Destruction

“Save Our Yeshiva” is the name of the last-ditch campaign launched by students and supporters of the Od Yosef Chai Yeshiva in Yitzhar to stop the demolition of the yeshiva building, a key Torah learning center located in Samaria, in the heartland of Israel.

The yeshiva replaced the former one located at the grave of Yosef Hatzadik in Shechem which was ransacked, smashed by pickaxes and set on fire by an Arab mob in October of 2000 after the then Prime Minister Ehud Barak ordered the army to vacate the tomb.

Under the order of the present Defense Minister, Ehud Barak, the IDF Civil Administration issued a demolition order against the 11-year-old yeshiva building. According to Israeli building practice, the Defense Minister needs to sign off on the project as a formality. Barak has refused despite amply documented early government authorization and funding for its construction. Ironically, the building commenced when Barak was Prime Minister. The building was built with private donations along with the Israeli government which invested 3-4 million shekels in the building.

Yeshiva staff, students and supporters, shocked by the May 9th demolition order, which many claim to be the result of politics within the Labor party, have mobilized to prevent the destruction of the 13,000 square foot Torah institution.

8. Halt Threatened Yeshiva Destruction

“Save Our Building” is the name of the last-ditch campaign launched by students and supporters of the Od Yosef Chai Yeshiva in Yitzhar. July 4, 2010 marks the demolition date for the yeshiva, a key Torah learning center located in Samaria, in the heartland of Israel.

According to a hotly contested order imposed by the Israel Defense Force’s Civil Administration, the 11-year-old building in the town of Yitzhar is not properly authorized, despite amply documented government authorization and funding for its construction.

Yeshiva staff, students and supporters, shocked by the May 9th demolition order, have mobilized to prevent the destruction, which many claim to be due to a policy adopted to punish area residents and students for conflicts with the IDF and for alleged acts of retribution against nearby Arab towns.

9. Australian Jews support Obama's MidEast Statement

The Australian Jewish Democratic Society together with other Jewish Australians who care greatly for both the future of Israel and the legitimate national aspirations of Palestinians, strongly endorse the views recently expressed by the US President in Cairo.

His words represent a sea change in approach to a conflict that has festered for so long that many of us have despaired of the possibility of finding a path to a resolution. His words articulate both the main elements of the conflict as understood by the Australian Jewish Democratic Society and a way forward to hope:

11. SJCC ECS Closures Letter to the Board

To all full-time ECS families:

We are all aware of the unprecedented number of full-day and 3pm school closures this year, and we have individually and collectively tried to work with the administration to revise this year's ECS calendar and increase the days of full-time care provided. Unfortunately, the solutions offered by the administration thus far have been unacceptable. Several families have come together to write a letter to the JCC Board of Directors to present at their next meeting on Tuesday, November 28th. We believe that the Board is unaware of the changes, and we are asking for their support in pursuading the ECS administraton to provide childcare during non-holiday closures. We are also hoping that the Board will help ensure that such calendar issues are avoided in the future.

Please review the attached letter and indicate your support by signing via this online petition tool. It is critical that we (full-time families) present a unified voice to the administration and to the board. We are circulating the letter to nine full-time classrooms and anticipate strong support.

Thanks in advance for your support. And please feel free to contact any of the letter's authors with feedback or questions.

Shalom,
Liz Friedman, Lam Nguyen, Deborah Schneider, Rachel Schwartz, and Ilyse Wagner

14. Protest Mayor Livingstone's Racist Statement

March 22, 2006

Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London, at his weekly press conference 21 March 2006 made a classic racist jibe - telling two Londoners (the Reuben brothers), who have lived in London since the 1950s when they immigrated as teenagers, "if they're not happy, perhaps they could always go back to Iran and see if they do better under the Ayatollahs."

Incidentally, they are Jewish but not of Iranian origin. The context was a disagreement over a property development in the east of London.

Ken Livingstone's defence, in assembly questions 22/3/6 was that he was not aware the Reubens are Jewish - he thought they were Shias from Iran; in which case - even if we believe this to be true - his comments are still racist. So please sign!

15. Jewish Americans Want Politicians to Work for Peace in Israel/Palestine

"The world rests on three things: on justice, on truth, and on peace. And all three are one, for where there is justice, there is also truth, and there is peace."

-Talmud, Ta'anit, 4:2

Cynthia McKinney paid a price for speaking the truth. As a Representative of the United States Congress, she had the conviction and courage to state what so many of her colleagues think privately but are hesitant to say publicly: Israel's 37-year-old military occupation of the Palestinian people in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem is wrong and that ending this occupation is a prerequisite for there to be peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

Like the rabbis of the Talmud, Ms. McKinney understands that the strands which bind together peace and justice are inseparable. Israelis cannot expect to live in peace and security while their government is engaged in a land grab and degrading military occupation that denies their neighbors, the Palestinians, their individual human rights and their collective right of self-determination.

Ms. McKinney's willingness in Congress to question Israel's military occupation of the Palestinians earned her the ire of some Jewish American organizations. These institutions demonized Ms. McKinney both before and during her 2002 Democratic primary race and political action committees aligned with them pumped substantial funds into the election campaign of her challenger, Denise Majette. Flush with funds and the support of Republicans who "crossed over" and voted for her in the Georgia primary to punish Ms. McKinney for her critical analysis of the Bush Administration's "war on terror", Ms. Majette won her primary election and one of Congress' most important voices was stilled temporarily. However, Ms. McKinney is undaunted by this defeat and is seeking to reclaim her seat in the House of Representatives in 2004.
