The City of New Westminster intends to sell the Burr Theatre.
For many years we have enjoyed excellent theatre at the Burr. Local business enjoyed increased business that came as a result of the theatre.
Based on the above experience, we believe that the needs of the people of New Westminster would be better served if the Burr Theatre is retained as a City-owned multi-disciplinary arts facility.
Cuppacumbalong Homestead Precinct, in Tharwa, is a significant place, listed in the ACT Heritage Register due to its historical, aesthetic, and social values. The farm was resumed by the Commonwealth of Australia in the 1970’s. In 1975 the homestead precinct was leased with the purpose to promote Australian arts and crafts.
Cuppacumbalong was a destination, with public access to the homestead, heritage gardens and picnic area, with a restaurant, an arts gallery, craft shop and artists’ studios. Part of the Tourist Drive 5, Cuppacumbalong had a national and international reputation of being one of Australia’s best arts and craft destinations.
Visitors once flocked to enjoy café fare and regional crafts in the main rooms of the majestic principal homestead. Later, shunted to outbuildings to make way for the failed reception centre, visitors’ numbers dwindled. Closing the gates indefinitely, the owner meanwhile lodged unsuccessful applications to change the homestead to domestic residential use.
Today the place is permanently closed, electric fenced, without public access, no restaurant open, no arts and craft shop or exhibitions, signs of Cuppacumbalong removed. Local, national and international visitors following the promotion still available in various tourist information sites are greatly disappointed when they find the place shut.
A new Development Application has been lodged demanding changes to the lease purpose clauses, from promoting Australian arts and crafts to operating one (or more, no guarantees) of various uses including agriculture (in previous applications the agriculture activity proposed was chicken farming), tourism, or residential accommodation linked to the other uses.
The new development application also strips the ACT government from determining public access times and to charge entry fees. (You can see the application at http://apps.actpla.act.gov.au/pubnote/pubnoteDetail_new.asp?DA_no=200915227
Public comments about the DA were invited by the ACT Land and Planning Authority until the 4th of September. We have submitted the signatures and comments as objections to the change of the lease on behalf of 150 who signed the petition by the 4th of September.
We will keep the petition going until we have an answer from ACT Planning and Land Authority.
ACTION:
Sign this letter and forward to people who believe this unique heritage place should continue to be publicly accessible and used for the purpose of promoting Australian arts and crafts.
33. Keep Federal Support of Literary, Scholarly and Arts Magazines
Canadian literary, arts, and scholarly magazines publishing in either English and French are in danger of losing a key federal funding source.
Canadian Heritage Minister James Moore announced in a speech he made in Montreal (http://www.pch.gc.ca/pc-ch/minstr/moore/disc-spch/20090217-eng.cfm) that the Canada Magazine Fund and Publishing Assistance Program will be merged to create the Canada Periodical Fund. Eligibility for funding could potentially be restricted to those magazines with an annual circulation above 5000.
With notable exceptions, the circulation of virtually every Canadian literary, arts, and scholarly magazine, large and small, is below 5000.
The Metro Station Authority threatens to demolish five historic terraces and local businesses on Union Square to make way for the proposed Metro Station. The buildings are heritage listed. They are the heart and soul of the Pyrmont Village.
The past lives and breathes in the present and the future. Buildings and areas should not be pulled down or reconstructed just because it suits the flow of traffic or the use of underground rail systems. Much more needs to be shown to justify the actions of the Authority. Our community has a legitimate and reasonable expectation that the choice of a suitable location will occur with proper consultation and will not be done capriciously or with no concern for relevant matters.
Our Council and the State Government will be judged on how they deal with and value our heritage and its culture. There are other options for the Metro it could be in the Casino complex or on the corner of Union and Pyrmont Streets. If the road was closed between Edward and Pyrmont Streets during construction this important village hub could be left intact.
The best barometer of a society’s character is how it deals with and understands its past and how it uses that knowledge to help it carry on its present tasks, and then to shape its future.
35. In support of a cooperative agreement with Autrey Mill Nature Preserve Assoc.
The Autrey Mill Nature Preserve and Heritage Center, is a unique facility in the bustling City of Johns Creek GA. It features 46 acres of forest, woodland trails, winding creek, heritage gardens, historic buildings, and animal exhibits.
The beautiful Autrey Mill of today was built over a 20-year period under the leadership of the non-profit Autrey Mill Nature Preserve Association (AMNP) Board and its talented staff, with the vital help of generous public and private supporters, and by harnessing the indispensable work of volunteers.
With the stability provided by a 30-year lease agreement (originally with Fulton County and now with the City of Johns Creek) AMNP has been able to conduct long-range planning; receive major grants; undertake larger, multi-year projects; and accept donations of heirlooms and important historic items. Operating under this lease, the AMNP Board has provided responsible stewardship of the land and continually made improvements.
On March 11, 2009, the City of Johns Creek took the extraordinary step of suing the AMNP non-profit corporation operated by community volunteers. In its lawsuit the City seeks to invalidate the 30-year lease and seeks control over the historic items that have been donated to AMNP over the years.
36. Don't demolish Lonsdale House
The developer, Colonial has requested permission from the minister for planning to remove the heritage overlay which would allow complete demolition of one of Victoria’s most significant heritage buildings, Lonsdale House.
Despite appeals by the National Trust and the Art Deco Society, Heritage Victoria has sternly refused to protect this significant building and the Lonsdale Street and Caledonian Lane streetscapes for future generations.
Your personal details will not be divulged to anyone other than as a record of your signature to parliamentary officials and the developer involved.
37. Save Ft. Ancient Historical Site, OHS
Fort Ancient features 18,000 feet of earthen walls built 2,000 years ago by American Indians, the Hopewell. The Hopewell used the shoulder blades of deer, split elk antlers, clam shell hoes and digging sticks to dig the dirt. Then, carried the soil in baskets holding up to 40 pounds. In conjunction with the sun and the moon portions of the earthen wall provide a calendar system for the Hopewell.
Because of its significance, Fort Ancient was purchased by the state of Ohio in 1891 and became Ohio's first state park. n addition, this is part of the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks, one of 14 sites nominated in January 2008 by the Department of Interior for potential submission by the United States to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
38. Save Broadfield House Glass Museum
On the 5th January 2009 the staff of Broadfield House were told that Dudley Council is proposing to close Broadfield House Glass Museum and move its collections and research resources to The Red House Cone site, as from March 2010.
At present the Red House Cone has neither enough exhibition space, nor adequate lecture space. The proposed move to the Red House Cone would result in the museum's research materials, library and collections being hidden away from public view. Consequently the owners of the loan collections (which include the Friends of Broadfield House) may well want their glass to be returned. Furthermore, there is already a large amount of glass in store at Broadfield House (and at Himley Hall) which is not displayed!
It would be a major loss for glass researchers, makers, enthusiasts and collectors if the important resources of Broadfield House were to be made unavailable. As one of the “major” glass attractions bringing visitors to Stourbridge, it would also be a loss to Dudley Council. The museum's repository of major glass collections, especially of 20th century glass from the Stourbridge area, is also of significant international importance.
In view of the above, The Glass Association is campaigning to stop this move unless and until the Red House Cone site is fully able to exhibit (as a minimum) the collections that are currently displayed at Broadfield. The Red House Cone must also be able to provide adequate facilities to house Broadfield House’s research materials. Both the collections and the research materials need to be readily accessible and ideally new lecture facilities should also be created.
The Friends of Broadfield House, The Glass Association and The Glass Circle would fully support the move if it were to improve and enhance the Broadfield Museum experience. However, it has been said that the only way Dudley Council can save money is to close Broadfield House down completely and either box up the collection for posterity, or sell it! If this were to happen the Council would be guilty of losing a huge piece of the area's glass heritage.
40. Save Harris Scarfe Building
The State Government's Development Assessment Commission has approved the demolition of the Harris Scarfe building in Grenfell Street.
The developer, Alteman SA, has had a 19 storey office tower approved for the site.
Built in 1922, the Harris Scarfe building is part of Adelaide’s unique architectural heritage and the Grenfell streetscape and Adelaide's last surviving operating department store.
Bill Muirhead says that “Adelaide should forget trying to become more like Sydney or Melbourne” City Messenger, 27 November 2008.
The National Trust says that the building was defined as being of local heritage significance some years ago.
We are concerned that this important building is not listed in the current State and local heritage register and is able to be demolished. What is being done to protect our architectural heritage?
No public consultation has taken place about this decision.
Adelaide City Council has surrendered their planning approval powers on this matter.
Historic areas such as The Rocks, Sydney and Flinders Lane, Melbourne have been saved by public action. We would now not dream of demolishing these areas.
It's important that unions and other concerned community bodies act to halt demolition of historic buildings as part of acting sustainably.
41. Cross Bones Graveyard heritage site
A shrine has been created at the gates to the site of a post-medieval burial ground in Redcross Way, Southwark. This outcasts’ graveyard was already regarded as ‘ancient’ in the 16th century, when it was known as ‘the Single Woman’s churchyard’ – a reference to the ‘Winchester Geese’, prostitutes licensed by the Bishop of Winchester to work in south London’s Liberty of the Clink.
By Victorian times it had become known as ‘Cross Bones’, the pauper’s burial ground. It was closed in 1853, described as being ‘completely overcharged with dead’.
In the early 1990s it was partly dug up during work on the Jubilee Line Extension. Museum of London archaeologists removed 148 skeletons, an estimated 1% of 15,000 burials.
The site has inspired many literary works, including 'The Southwark Mysteries', and festivals, including the annual 'Halloween of Cross Bones'. A vigil is held at the Memorial Gates on the 23rd of each month, where local people have created a shrine to honour 'the outcast dead'. Friends of Cross Bones are also campaigning for the establishment of a Memorial Garden and public park in the southernmost part of the site.
Cross Bones has enormous potential as a heritage site, the living embodiment of the extraordinary social history which attracts so many visitors to the area. The creation of a Memorial Garden would establish a pocket-park in an area in need of more green spaces. It would also be a shining beacon of social inclusion in an area which is currently undergoing massive changes and disruptions to the lives of some of its oldest inhabitants.
42. Stop Destroying Sinhala Heritage!
We have learned there's a conspiracy movement in action to teach doctored history to school children of Sri Lanka. As patriots we have to protect our motherland from the seen and unseen foes.
Therefore, we have created an online petition as one of the many steps to reveal the conspiracy and to draw the public attention to this issue.
Please extend your support by signing this petition in order to preserve Sinhala Heritage.
43. National Scots, Scots-Irish Heritage Month
Now that Tartan Day has finally been signed and now complete, we should join together towards the establishment of the entire month of April as “National Scots, Scots-Irish Heritage Month”.
A full month of recognition would provide those aware of our ancestry and heritage a fair opportunity to teach our children and others a vast, rich culture, that has lead many civilizations to success through many innovations, inventions and social structuring.
Another benefit of a month’s recognition is that it would also bring attention to other days important to Americans of Scottish heritage, such as Tartan Day, Robert Burns’ Birthday, and St. Andrew's Day, as well as many others. It would be the perfect opportunity to inform the general public of this heritage.
Many other groups have months to teach and recognize their achievements. For instance; June-Caribbean-American Heritage Month; March-Irish-American Heritage Month; May-Jewish-American Heritage Month; May is also Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month; February-African-American History Month”. There are others which can be seen at The White House website-whitehouse.gov, then, “proclamations”. But, it seems the Scottish and Scots-Irish are about the only group left out. In today’s world we must be aggressive, teach or be forgotten. We must be heard.
We have been working toward the establishment of the month of April as “National Scots, Scots-Irish Heritage Month” for over six years and through that time many states have joined in the observances, although some states have acknowledged other months (on a state level), we seek a uniform national month as April and this would clarify some confusion. Many Scottish Societies, Clan societies and (as mentioned) states and municipalities support this.
We all know that strength in numbers gets things done. We ask that if your organization has not joined, to do so, with a simple “Letter of Support”, stating the support for the month of April as such and there’s no other obligations involved. We ask your help in the propagation as well. We’re also glad to assist states/mayors/municipalities in acquiring Proclamations and Resolutions. Any questions feel free to contact us and for more information, you can also “Google”-“national scots scots-irish heritage month” and we look forward to hearing from you.
44. Designation of Loch Ness as a World Heritage Site
Loch Ness and the Great Glen in the Scottish Highlands is one of the amazing natural wonders of the world, and we feel it deserves to join the list of over 800 remarkable places that have achieved World Heritage Status across the globe that belong to all the peoples of the world, irrespective of the territory on which they are located.
These include East Africa’s Serengeti, the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the Baroque cathedrals of Latin America.
Like Loch Ness, these are all places that inspire, stimulate and create a sense of wonder.
The bid for Loch Ness to be granted World Heritage status would provide the stimulus to encourage investment and the essential commitment to the conservation that this wonderful environment deserves.
UNESCO has set out ten criteria that will allow it to accept nominations for World Heritage status, and Loch Ness could qualify on all of them. Just some of the features of the natural and cultural heritage that make Loch Ness worthy of this international status are:
The Loch itself: Loch Ness & the Great Glen is a deep trough created by the Great Highland geological fault line and gouged by glaciers resulting in a dramatic and varied vista including moorland, mountains, glens and waterfalls.
The Unique Flora and Fauna of Loch Ness and it's environs hosts rich, diverse, natural Habitats including sites of special scientific interest.
History: The Loch Ness area is home to Urquhart Castle, one Scotland’s most important historical properties, the ancient Cairns at Corrimony, the iron age fort at Dun Dearduil, General Wade's military roads and bridges and ancient field systems. The area's history is tied to the Jacobite rebellion, the Highland Clearances & the journeys of Saint Columba.
Culture: Loch Ness has been an inspiration for generations of artists & writers including Robert Burns, JM Barrie, Beatrix Potter, George Bain, Dick King-Smith, Samuel Johnson & James Boswell as well as current artists, writers, film-makers and musicians.
Industrial and commercial heritage: Telford’s Caledonian canal, the Military Roads of General Wade, the Pioneering of Hydro Electricity, and the utilisation of Loch Ness as the gateway from the west to east coast of Scotland.
The Myth that is the Monster:‘Nessie’ - the Loch Ness monster is a central part of custom, belief and folklore of the UK and has entered the global conscience as a universal lexicon for belief, wonder and enigmas.

45. Krewe of Chasco: Whites Steal American Indian Culture!
For 86 years, the city of New Port Richey on the Gulf Coast of Florida has exploited American Indian culture and spirituality to sell an 11-day food fest and carnival called the Chasco Fiesta.
They put on a pageant in which children dressed as Florida Indians made stabbing motions into the chests of children dressed as Spaniards, showed Indians practicing human sacrifice, and showed a Spanish priest teaching Indians how to plant corn, squash and other crops, while the priest calls the Indians savages, pagans and heathens. The happy ending of this pageant? The Indians spared two white children making them their King and Queen, then convert to Christianity.
And why are there no Florida Indians today? The Chasco Fiesta brochure says when their benevolent white rulers died, the Indians reverted to human sacrifice, so God killed them all: men, women and children--with hurricanes, not Spanish genocide and disease. The pageant ended only when local citizens took the mayor and the president of the local Chamber of Commerce to court. Also ended were these activities in the Children's Indian Village: "Pin the Tail on the Drunken Indian," and "Find the Buried Treasure in the Miniature Indian Burial Mounds in the Big Sandbox."
What remains is the Krewe of Chasco, more than 300 white local civic and business leaders who dress up in authentic, sacred Indian regalia purchased at great cost, so they can appear in nine regional parades as a living advertisement to the Chasco Fiesta in late March. They are the only krewe in Florida that dresses like an ethnic minority that is not made up of a majority from that group--in fact, they pay a Seminole $5000 to stand on their float--the going price for betraying your heritage here.
Peter Matthiessen, author of several books on American Indians, calls the Krewe of Chasco one of the greatest insults to American Indians in the U.S. today. When the Florida American Indian Movement (AIM) and local citizens protested the float, the Krewe president told a Chamber of Commerce luncheon, "I want you all to buy guns and kill AIM--I'll bury them for free." He owns a funeral home.
On their website now closed to outsiders, one of their photos showed a drunken blonde woman wearing a sacred Plains Indian headdress with the caption, "Even Squaws can be Braves in the Krewe of Chasco"--apparently unaware that the word "squaw" is as insulting as the n-word to African Americans. On their float to "honor" Florida Indians as their non-profit charter says, they have a big brown fort representing the power of the military in destroying American Indians, a canoe and a drum from the Northeast, totem poles from the Northwest--and one paid Florida Indian.
Each year, the city of New Port Richey and the Pasco County Commission uses taxpayer money to rent the float for this private club--$21,000. Letters, lawsuits, protests, arrests and local petitions signed by more than 100 city residents have not been successful. Anyone who cares about American Indians who is considering a visit to this area should reconsider, and let the local governments know why. To freeze American Indians as they were a century ago, and to act as though they do not exist in modern-day American society is shameful.
No American would consider dressing up like blacks, or Roman Catholics, or Jews if they do not belong to that group--why then dress up like American Indians?
46. In Defense of Hoda Chaarawi's house
Published in Al-Ahram newspaper on September, 15th 2007:
Mr. Samir Gharib sent a message to Menia Governor, Fouad Saad AlDeen asking him to stop destruction actions on Hoda Chaarawi's house in Menia and excluding the house from the heritage list.
Hoda Chaarawi was a pioneer Egyptian feminist leader and nationalist.
In 1923 Chaarawi founded and became the first president of the Egyptian Feminist Union. She led Egyptian women pickets at the opening of Parliament in January 1924 and submitted a list of nationalist and feminist demands, which were ignored by the Wafdist government, whereupon she resigned from the Wafdist Women's Central Committee.
We are targeting the concerned authorities to stop such a shameful action on our piece of history and taking some more careness for our heritage.
PS: We are mainly a group of people concerned with preserving our heritage not following any organizations or parties.
BASS HILL Drive-in is one of only two Drive-in's left in Sydney and one of only three left in NSW.
This twin screen cinema is of great Heritage value, being the oldest continuously running Drive-in left in Australia.
Bankstown Council has a current Development Application for housing redevelopment, lodged by Greater Union cinemas, that CLOSES FOR COMMENT on TUESDAY, 6th November, 2007, but the final decision will be made over the next few weeks. (http://www.bankstown.nsw.gov.au/planb/onExhibition/index.cfm)
The National Trust of Australia (NSW) has just voted to add the Bass Hill Drive-in to the National Heritage Trust Register to try and keep the site operational in its current form, but this alone is not enough to prevent the demolition. They need plenty of public support to achieve that.
Generations of Australians have grown up with their local Drive-in and it is still one of the most convenient, exciting, safe and family-friendly entertainment venues left in Sydney and great value at $10.00 per adult for the latest double feature for Greater Union club members.
Where else can you take your own food or buy great hamburgers and snacks on site and bring your blanket and pillow from home to keep comfortable whilst watching the latest flicks under the open sky, relaxing in the comfort of your own car or stretched out on a mattress in the back of your stationwagon or ute?
Getting dressed up is optional - many people recall being taken by their parents in their pajamas to make it easy to get the kids to bed back at home.
There will always be the push for more housing but it is unlikely that they will erect more Drive-in cinemas, so please consider supporting this petition to overturn the decision to close the Bass Hill Drive-in.
48. Playground Saftey At Heritage Elementary School
OUR CHILDREN ARE AT RISK ON THEIR SCHOOL PLAYGROUND.
SEVERAL STUDENTS HAVE BEEN INJURED IN THE PAST AND THIS YEAR ON THE MONKEY BARS.
THESE INJURIES HAVE INCLUDED FACIAL LACERATIONS, BROKEN OUT TEETH, AND BROKEN BONES.
49. Create a GERMAN HERITAGE REGION in Ontario
German speaking people were among the earliest settlers in Ontario; throughout the 19th century, tens of thousands of Germans immigrated to Ontario, and a large and industrious community emerged in the province.
While many wished to retain the language and cultural heritage, they came to Ontario to escape hardship and injustice in central Europe. They became proud and prosperous citizens of the province, but unfortunately there was always pressure to assimilate and give up their language.
When the First World War started, draconian measures were undertaken to eliminate German culture in Ontario, even though most German-Ontarians remained loyal citizens and even served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force.
By the end of the war, German culture in Ontario was effectively destroyed, and has never recovered.
50. Stop Petro-Canada demolishing house built in 1853
We live in a house that was built in 1853 and the land is owned by Petro-Canada.
The house has historical and heritage significance. We are trying to fight Petro-Canada from demolishing it.

51. Classical Chinese should be maintained
Classical Chinese should be maintained.
Simplified Chinese is NOT part of the Chinese culture or heritage.
It is made out just for conveneince sake for those who cannot read clasical Chinese and it has no literature value.
52. Stop Benevolent Society's Commercial Redevelopment of Community Site
The Benevolent Society (TBS) has land on Ocean Street, BONDI. This land:
- was donated to them in 1917, instead of being purchased;
- is not charged Council rates;
- is partially Heritage listed;
- contains a number of rare and protected species of trees.
TBS wants to build on this land:
- two 10 storey buildings;
- one 8 storey building;
- one 6 storey building;
- other structures and facilities.
The buildings would consist of 127 apartments. These apartments would not be sold, but would be perpetually loan-leased to elderly people, and mostly at market rates (loan-lease is an arrangement in which a lump sum payment up-front guarantees lease until death, then the property is leased again, and again, and again).
They lodged a development application (DA) on with the Waverley Council on 21 May 2008 (http://www.waverley.nsw.gov.au/council/pes/building/detail.asp?DaID=309).
This project raises many serious concerns such as:
1. The scale of the development (8 - 10 storeys) is shocking in an already overdeveloped area.
2. Only 10% of the appartments will be for the needy - all the former occupants who were really elderly and needy were evicted & had to move out of their regular environment.
3. Although TBS got the land for free, a great majority of the apartments will be sold for a total of millions on the open market.
4. The terrifying traffic & parking problems it will cause, when approx 200-300 extra residents, visitors, carers, tradesmen etc will start converging in their vehicles toward the limited number of 80 car spaces provided. The overflow will end up looking for parking space in both Ocean & Wellington Sts., where there probably like now, will be none.
5. There appears to be no provision for in-house care. "Apartments for Life" as they like to call it, but with no carers for the elderly!
6. Dementia sufferers will be left to roam around, like they tend to do, in such a large complex with insufficient supervision.
7. Detrimental impact on local residents by the reduction of light due to shadows cast by the height of the proposed buildings. e.g. almost complete lack of sunlight 24/7 on the north & westerly side of the building in 22-28 Wellington St., with probably a similar effect on other buildings in the area. The traffic congestion & the strain on the environment with regard to water, sewerage, electricity, vehicle pollution and the intention to destroy trees to make room for the bldgs.
8. The whole project appears to be an experimental one, in that no-one knows if it will benefit anyone, or if it will be fully occupied.
9. The closure of the Maurice O'Sullivan Childreens' Day Care Centre will certainly leave working parents in an unenviable situation.
10. Lastly but not leastly, TBS has been caught lying many times in their communication about the project. For example, they claimed they had the support from Bondi School to open a new childcare, which is not true, and they said they would inform the community of the lodgment date of the DA, which did not happen.

54. Preserve our Pledge of Allegiance
Updated February 22, 2006
Preserve Our Heritage
The words [Under God] - there is a movement to have them removed from the pledge.
And [In God We Trust] - there is a movement to have them removed from our money. These words are part of our heritage.
These Movements are being lead by atheist Michael Newdow. The 9th Circuit court ruled that reciting of the pledge in public schools is unconstitutional.
Suit has been filed in 9TH Circuit Court Of Appeals to overturn that ruling. The Becket Fund will defend Under God.
Michael Newdow has filed suit to have the words In God We Trust remove from our money.
I have a petition to keep these words where they are.
The petition will be taken to the Senate and Congress and the Supreme Court.
Fellow Christians and Patriots let's join together and Preserve Our Heritage.

55. !!Denounce the "Mexican Heritage" Plaza for having invited the MinuteKlan into the Barrio!!
!!Tlazohkamati y Mexihcah Tiahui!!

On September 1, a small ad-hoc group representing various organizations met with Marcela Davison Aviles, executive director of the "Mexican Heritage" Plaza, upon learning that a plan was in the works to have Minuteman founder, Chris Simcox, engage in an on-site panel discussion with Democratic Party chairman Art Torres on the 16th of September, Mexican "Independence" Day. After much voicing of grave concern, the forum was ultimately moved to the Commonwealth Club venue in San Francisco.
In response to our concerns, Aviles craftily granted an interview to the English-language Mercury News claiming she had been bullied into canceling the forum with threats of violence, while she dodged a Spanish-language reporter. Shortly thereafter, the Commonwealth Club postponed the forum only to announce recently that the Plaza will resume their plan to host the forum again in November. Several members of Save Our State (an active gang of MinuteKlansmen, Stormfront nazis and allies alike who have carried out several protests in Southern Califaztlan) have churned the idea of attending the forum with or with Simcox, as a result of her capricious publicity.
Such a pattern of gross negligence and disrespect for our people must not remain unaccounted for, as this is NOT the first time she has exhibited such behavior. In a conspired fashion, she stopped a sacred Mexihca mitotiliztli circle last year from carrying out their weekly ceremony. Would she have executed the same divide and conquer tactics had this been a Catholic mass?
In the spirit of those in struggle to make it here - dead or alive - we say to the MHP board and the San Jose City Council: enough is enough!
We firmly denounce the "Mexican Heritage" Plaza for having aggressed the Mexican@ community upon opening its doors to the MinuteKlan!
DENOUNCE THESE SELLOUT TACTICS BY WAY OF THIS PETITION!! LET THEM KNOW THAT OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN STRUGGLE ALSO HAVE A VOICE AND THE INTERAL WILL TO PREVAIL!!
The likes of Aviles do not represent our "Mexican Heritage" and therefore are in no position to speak on our behalf. Aviles must resign now!
(Visit yaoyopa.anahuac.org/eng.html for more information; those signing the petition need not to fear, your (private) information will remain out of public view.)
56. Change the Dress Code, Heritage Enterprises
We feel that by allowing all staff to wear any color pant they like, would genuinly increase morale, therefore leading to better patient care, job performance and better attitudes in general.
57. Save the Confederate Flag!
In the Civil War, soldiers of the Confederate army fought a long, hard battle against the Union army. Many were imprisoned, left to starve in the cold, or killed in battle. Keep the Confederate flag flying, the only symbol of Southern heritage that we've been left!!!!
58. Save QMC - Intervene to Prevent Demolition
Kindly intervene to prevent demolition of the famed womens college in Chennai - Queen Marys College - in the guise of building a new Secretariat for Government of Tamilnadu. At a time when the State is facing a financial crunch and Government Employees are made to pay for the follies of the political bosses, spending crores of public money for a new Secretariat is a crime.
QMC is a historical monument. I have had the privalage of seeing it and enthralled by its services. This monument is definetely not in a bad shape as the politicians claim. Spending a few lakhs of rupees will make this institution fit for many more years to come.
We depend on your enthusiasm to create an educated and liberated India to stop this atrocious act of demolishing a heritage monument for petty and selfish gains.

59. Stop the proposed demolition of Queen Mary's College, Chennai
It has recently come to our attention that the Government of TamilNadu is proposing to demolish the buildings housing Queen Mary's College, Chennai. We are alarmed at this possible action.
"There is nothing that solidifies and strengthens a Nation like reading the Nation's history, whether that History is recorded in books or embodied in customs, institutions and monuments" (J.Anderson)
The Queen Mary's College, Chennai is both an institution and a monument. Set up in 1914, it was the first women's college in Chennai and the second in the South. A rich educational tradition and the experience of
a long history define the institution that is Queen Mary's College. Several of the college buildings including Pentland House (1915), Stone House (1918) and Jeypore House (1921) are vintage monuments and have
been declared as heritage buildings by the Heritage Committee of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority. This educational institution with its striking architecture has been one of the proud
landmarks of Chennai, helping define and continuing to contribute to the personality of the city. It is soon to celebrate its centenary in befitting manner.
Many of the buildings have been recently renovated and equipped with modern facilities with the help of a grant from the Department of Education. An effort by the alumnae has been underway to raise contributions to the 'building fund' set up to restore earlier buildings requiring more extensive repair and reconstruction. Plans
have been drawn for proposed improvements and are currently in the implementation stage.
It is therefore with great shock and dismay that we recently learnt of the plans of the Government to pull down this prestigious college and replace it with a Secretariat building.
Queen Mary's College is located on the Marina in an atmosphere conducive to learning, and offers education of the highest standard to more than 4000 students. The College is rooted in a strong sense of
responsibility to its surrounding community. It is committed to providing educational opportunities for students from less-privileged backgrounds to realize their potential. Today, most of the students
hail from lower middle class and labour class families, many of them first generation students. The 25 degree courses offered are a constantly evolving mix of the traditional and the unorthodox, tailored
to meet the unique needs of the community it serves. Always a pioneer in educational circles, Queen Mary's College has been the one of first to offer rare courses including physical education, three Home Science
Degrees, Tourism and Travel Management, Music and Functional English.
One of the best ways to preserve a country's heritage and pay tribute to its history is to maintain and restore ancient buildings, to retain a legacy for future generations to understand the country's great and
glorious cultural richness. We fear that the Government's proposed move to demolish Queen Mary's College lacks vision in this regard. The move will only serve to erode social, and educational values that have been
built over decades and deprive deserving lower middle class female students of an immensely valuable college education that uplifts and empowers.
