1. Scrap the Changes to the Employment Insurance System

EI and the 2012 Federal Budget

2. Amendment to the Charter of Human Rights and the Governing system

The Charter and Government are a ancient system that when they were created benefited the people then, but our modern society is no longer benefiting from the Governing body and the Charter is too often imbalanced trying to consider each right.

Rights are denied or other Rights supersede the ones that protects a person from either cruel and unusual punishment or the right to live, and the right to be free from persecution. Violations that are too numerous to name happen frequently.

We the people should be able to declare our government unfit and incapable of efficiently running the nation, that it is not doing it's job and that it needs reform.

3. Stop the Disastrous Grey Seal Cull

A key study published in the science journal Nature ("Transient dynamics of an altered large marine ecosystem", September 2011"), by Canadian scientists using the DFO's own data, totally refutes Ashfield, the DFO and the Fisheries Resource Conservation Council. The latter insist on slaughtering 70,000 - 140,000 grey seals (using machine guns and incinerators), as they blame the grey seals for slowing the cod recovery. This slaughter would cost $35 million dollars when the DFO is already facing cutbacks.

Why is the government taking such a foolish action? Possibly to distract the East coast fishers (who do vote) from the real agenda: deregulation of the East Coast fishing industry.

Such a policy would be very unpopular on the East Coast of Canada, as it would likely would likely lead to the destruction of the independent fishing industry. However, if the Harper government can distract the small fishers with 'support' in the form of a massive grey seal slaughter, they hope to escape a voter back-lash in the next federal election.

But the data shows that the cod (and other groundfish stocks) are recovering in the same areas the grey seals have higher populations, proving the grey seals are not holding back the cod recovery. The cod collapsed decades ago due to over fishing, and are only now starting to recover. Destroying the grey seals will only destabilize a tenuous Grand Banks ecosystem, actually threatening the cod recovery.

The proposed grey seal slaughter is only about politics, and has nothing to do with science.

4. Stop the Sale of Nexen to CNOOC (China)

China wants to buy Canada's oil sands. China's national oil company, CNOOC, wants to start by buying Nexen Energy, of Calgary. The shareholders of Nexen have been offered a 60% premium for their shares.

The Government of Canada must decide whether the sale of Nexen should be allowed under the government's "net benefit" rule; that is, will it bring about a net benefit to Canadians. This decision must be made in a reasonable time, typically, 90 days or so.

CNOOC should not be allowed to buy Nexen because national oil companies will divert Canadian oil to their nation first, when oil grows scarce on this rapidly shrinking planet, regardless how high a price Canadians will be willing to pay to buy it back.

Canadians should not allow any Canadian oil company to fall into the hands of any company owned by another country in an era where energy security is becoming increasingly important.

5. No Confidence in Harper

The Harper government has proven time and time again, by act and word, that they do NOT have the best interests at heart for Canada, her people, her economy, and her environment.

Please sign this petition if you disagree with Harper's habit of passing laws in secret, the blatant disregard he has for the Canadian people and country, or if you're just had enough of Harper's despotism.

Here is a very small collection of some crimes performed by the Harper government to the Canadian people:

* The Harper government has used voter suppression techniques and overspending to control the elections from 2005-2012. The latest being the Robocall scandal, which is currently under investigation.

* The Harper government passed crime Bill C-10 at night, despite strongly voiced opposition from the People. This bill will unjustly send many people to prison, at an conservative estimated cost Canadians $108,000 / prisoner per year. Avenues of crime and poverty reduction, diverting young offenders from adult prison systems, and offering more services to the mentally ill, while proving very effective, have been neglected or cut.

* The Harper government requested the Governor General to dissolve/prorogue the Parliament to AVOID THREE separate votes of No Confidence by the minority parties.

* The Harper government has cut funding to a number of charities and organizations over the years simply based on ideological or policy reasons, including: Rights and Democracy; International aid group Kairos; research and advocacy work funded by the women's program at Status of Women Canada; and the NRTEE (National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy). CBC and Radio One, the only national not-for-profit news organization is under going massive cuts over the next 3 years for disagreeing with the Harper Government's policies.

*If passed, online spying bill C-30 will have the Canadian people paying for a range of authorities to invasively access your private online information, at any time, without a warrant, which is a breach of UN's Declaration of Human Rights - Article 12

*Broke UN's Declaration of Human Rights - Article 9 - No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile. - During the G20 and the Quebec student protests

*Ignoring and mistreating of the First Nations reserves including education and housing cuts, and lack of clean drinking water available to over 50% of the reserves.

*Unwanted privatization of areas of international ecological significance, such as Brewsters Jasper National Park walkway, and the prime grizzly bear habitat of the proposed Jumbo Glacier Ski development.

*Broken UN's Declaration of Human rights - Article 27 - Everyone has the right to the protection of the moral and material interests resulting from any scientific, literary or artistic production of which he is the author - by stifling information and scientists on Climate change.

6. Petition for a vote of non-confidence in the current Government

We, Canadian people, have lost confidence in the ability of Stephen Harper's Conservative Government to democratically govern Canada and to respect the foundational democratic structures and institutions of our country and the democratic aspirations of the Canadian people.

THAT we have lost confidence in the ability of Stephen Harper's Conservative Government to democratically govern Canada and to respect the foundational democratic structures and institutions of our country and the democratic aspirations of the Canadian people;

THAT the following actions of the Government and its ministers have added to a growing loss of confidence in the Government by the people of Canada and we the undersigned believe their occurrence is cause for the dissolution of Parliament and the calling of a new, democratically-monitored election:

-There is growing evidence exposing massive, intentional, structured vote-suppression of non-Conservative votes in the last federal election.

-The Government of Canada, through its Minister of Agriculture, has publicly stated it need not heed a ruling of a Canadian court of law with regard to the need to consult with prairie farmers via a plebiscite before dismantling the Canadian Wheat Board's single desk monopoly over sale of wheat on the prairies.

The Conservative Party of Canada during the last federal election, along with the Minister of Defence of the current Conservative Government, has consistently misled both the Canadian public and Parliament about the true cost of purchasing F-35 fighter jets, in addition to not opening these contracts to competition.

-The intervention and biasing by the Minister of Natural Resources of a federal Joint Review process of the Northern Gateway Project before the process had even begun, along with the Minister's contempt for Canadians expressing divergent opinions from that of the project's proponent, whose side the Government has chosen to take.

7. Protest the Protect Children from Internet Predators Act aka C-30

This directly threatens the freedom of Canadian citizens.
I believe it will ineffective at catching child predators, and will directly damaged the privacy of law abiding citizens.
It gives the Canadian government the unregulated ability to spy on its citizens

If you sign this petition please post a link to it on your facebook if you have one so others may sign as well.

8. Get Prime Minister Harper on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight

Prime Minister Stephen Harper has never been on neither The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos or George George Stroumboulopoulos tonight after many requests to do so. Canadians would really appreciate seeing him take the time to do this show.

By doing it on CBC and on Canada's only late night talk show he would be showing Canadians that he cares about us as a nation.

George's show will likely be coming back as for the full hour next season starting in September and Prime Minister Harper's appearance on the show would certainly be a good use of the hour-long format.

9. The Government of Canada > NOT Harper's Government

The order has gone out from the Prime Ministers Office that Canadian Government Departments "no" longer call our Government 'The Canadian Government'. It seems we are now governed by' The Harper Government'

This is an action you might expect to see in a third World dictatorship country, not in a free and democratic Country like Canada.

Canadians are appalled at this action and we refuse to accept this 're-branding' of OUR country for the selfish political gain of one man. We feel this is a very serious matter and not something to be ignored.

We are sending the message to Stephen Harper that the Government in Canada is the Canadian Government. It is not Stephen Harper's Government. It is OUR government. My government, your government, Canada's Government, the government of every Canadian.

We wish to make it clear that Canadians DO care, very much, about the state of our Government.

10. Equal Pay for Canadian Women

Currently in Canada a woman makes $0.705 for every $1.00 a man makes. This needs to be addressed! We are currently ranked 25th in the world on the gender gap index. Do we want to be known for this?

Steven Harper recently tried to change the Canadian National anthem to be Gender Neutral. This is a lame response to a serious problem. I think it is insulting that Harper has concentrated on such a backward fruitless task. We need to make sure that he does something substantial in its place!

I think it is about time something real was done. The average pay for women in each and every company needs to be on par with the average pay for men of that same company. Also these companies need to be held responsible for this requirement. Any Companies found violating this law should be fined and a portion of the fine paid to each of the effected female employees. Age, ethnicity, and religious background need to be brought into play as well.

As well a regular audit of a company’s payroll should be made to ensure that a company is being compliant. Possibly done once every 2 or 3 years for each company.

For anyone wanting to see articles about this problem I'm including some links below:

11. Keep this baby-murderer out of Canada

In 2008, Steven Barker, his brother Jason Owen and his partner, Tracy Connolly; were convicted of causing or allowing the death of a two year old boy, Peter Connolly. The details of their crime sickened the nation, causing outrage in parliament and widespread anger amongst the people of Britain.

Causing or allowing the death of a child is a relatively new offence in Britain, introduced to prevent child murderers simply avoiding responsibility for their crimes by blaming each other for laying the final blow. Naturally, Barker, Owen (who changed his name to try and disassociate himself from his brother) and Connolly all blamed each other, meaning that there was no realistic possibility of getting a murder conviction, so they were tried under the new law.

It sounds fairly passive, causing or allowing the death of a child, but their role in Peter's death was anything but. Barker moved in with Connolly, who failed to tell the authorities that he was living with her while Peter was on the child protection register, as she was required to do. Barker and Owen had a violent past, directing their sick fantasies at old and young alike, including torturing their own grandmother to make her change her will. Barker was also convicted of raping a two year old girl after being found guilty of causing or allowing the death of Peter.

From the day Barker and Owen came on the scene, Peter's days were numbered. By the time he died, after 17 months of torture, neglect and abuse, little baby Peter had 50 separate injuries on his body, caused by the animals he lived with.

Not surprisingly, the people of Britain despise these animals for their crimes, which has led to speculation that they will be granted new identities and anonymity on release, to protect them from vigilante attacks. It has been reported in the British press that Steven Barker, the child-raping baby murderer, has his hear set on starting a new life in Canada on his release.

We think that Barker should be barred from being able to settle in Canada or any other country for that matter. His crimes were committed in Britain, he is a British citizen, the Government of Canada has no legal or moral obligation to allow him to come here. Indeed, it would be grossly injurious to the reputation of Canada as a civilized and law-abiding society, and it would place at risk the most vulnerable people in our country, namely the very young and seniors upon whom Barker and his wretched accomplices visited their sick and violent fantasies.

13. TRANSPARENT GOVERNING BODY

CANADIANS DEMAND TRANSPARENT GOVERNING

We, the Canadian working force, demand implementing a transparent governing system, similar to the one Obama penned (Google for Government, being implemented in many states).

This Transparent form of governing would not only open the door to possible nation-wide simultaneous voting, nation-wide collaborations and open, nation-wide debates, it would also act as a watch dog on government officials' expenditures of taxpayers money, eliminate much of the ping-pong game of which the politically elite fill the news stations with, hence eliminating the rift between east, central and western Canada, next to eliminate governmental over spending, keep all Canadians in tune with the wants, needs and abilities of all provinces and in the process give us all a more democratic governing body.

14. Albertans for the Arts

The goal of this petition is to send a strong message to Steven Harper and the Conservative Party that “ordinary citizens” value the arts and cultivate various art forms, everyday in Alberta and across Canada.

On October 1, Albertans For The Arts was inaugurated with a rally in Edmonton to demonstrate offense and anger at recent statements about artists by the Prime Minister.

"I think when ordinary working people come home, turn on the TV and see a gala of a bunch of people, you know, at a rich gala all subsidized by taxpayers, claiming their subsidies aren't high enough when they know those subsidies have actually gone up, I'm not sure that's something that resonates with ordinary people." (Steven Harper, September 23, 2008)

Artists around the country are speaking up against this kind of disdain for art exhibited by their elected officials. The paranoid caricature of art as an obscure activity, artificially propped up by social elites and government bureaucrats needs a clear response. Albertans are speaking.
