601. Restart peace process

Seperatist L.T.T.E. movement is waging a war for a seperate state in the Nort/East of Sri Lanka for Tamil minority rights. It has bled this once Paradise Island to the brink of complete anarchy.

The EU led by the Norwegians with the full backing of the U.S. and the Indian governments started a peace process between the government and the rebels, only to be thwarted by various interested factions, depriving the large sector of silent peace loving Sinhales, Tamils and the Muslims to live in harmony.

This petition is to revive the peace process, a cantonal system as a model of devolving power sharing.

602. Discloser Project Contact List

Hello Everyone,

I have just sent 30 + e-mails to most major media contacts regarding the Disclosure Project and Lara Johnstone. Below you will find a copy of my letter.

If you would like to e-mail these 30+ contacts, please e-mail me at: Monispy@aol.com to have me fax you all of the addresses. Also, if you are not much of a writer, please feel free to use my letter as your own. I will get back to you ASAP if you would like these addresses!

Sincerely,
Monica Morris
Monispy@aol.com

To Whom It May Concern:

I would like to draw your attention to an extremely important situation that is occurring in America at this time. Please, read what I have to say...

On May 9, 2001 at 9:00 a.m., Dr. Steven Greer founder and director of the Disclosure Project, along with over 20 military, government, and corporate witnesses to unambiguous UFO and extraterrestrial events, held a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington DC. 250,000 people were waiting online for the press conference to begin. Because of this, the first hour of the conference was "electronically jammed".

It is obvious to me that people all around the world are extremely interested in this topic. I do believe that the testimony these witnesses are prepared to make, given Congressional support, will greatly improve our quality of life, the environment, and much more. I must ask you, with the abundance of interest in this organization, when will you report on the issue? Make no mistake, the American people are listening and do demand more information.

I would like to begin by telling you more about Dr. Steven Greer and the Disclosure Project. However, I must start with the most pressing issue currently taking place. Lara Johnstone from California is a very courageous woman that is taking steps in helping to bring about the disclosure of the extraterrestrial presence on and around Earth. She wrote a letter to President Bush on July 26, 2001. After this letter, on July 28, 2001 she began a hunger strike "to death if need be" in order to stress her support and demand of the following:

1)Open, comprehensive, secrecy-free hearings to take miliartary/agency witness testimony on events and evidence relating to an Extraterrestrial presence on and around Earth.

2)To hold open hearings on advanced energy and propulsion systems, relating to extraterrestrial phenomena that, when publicly released, will provide solutions to global environmental challenges.

Lara Johnstone is not the first to write this letter and she is far from the last. Thousands upon thousands of letters have poured into Congressmen, Senators, and President Bush's office since May 9th.

She is, however, the first to take such dramatic stances to the issue. However, many people argue that she is doing what they too would do, if they were half as courageous. She plans to visit the White House immediately and she has been contacted by several media members which you can view by going to her web site at: www.amandla.org/ufo/.

Since May 9, 2001 the Disclosure Project, over 20 witnesses, and Dr. Steven Greer have been traveling from city to city across the United States to ask their fellow Americans to send letters to their local representatives, Congressmen, and President George W. Bush. You can view the letters at:
www.dislcosureproject.org. You may also view, at that address, responses from political leaders as well as George W. Bush.

Dr. Steven Greer has met with and provided briefings on the Et/UFO subject for senior members of government and for military and intelligence operations in the United States and around the world, including senior CIA officials, Joint Chiefs of taff, White House staff, senior members of Congress and congressional committees, senior United Nations leadership and diplomats, senior military officials in the UK and Europe. Dr Steven Greer and the Disclosure Project have been able to identify, contact, and videotape interviews with nearly 100 military, intelligence, and government witnesses
to UFO events and projects. These interviews and accompanying evidence are definitive and will establish the reality of the ET/UFO subject as well as the nature and purpose of the secrecy surrounding it. For more information and to view a fragment of military, government, and corporate witness statements, please visit: www.disclosureproject.org.

I hope that you will soon be researching the information that I have given you and soon be interviewing Dr. Steven Greer and/or Lara Johnstone. As I stated before, obviously the interest on this topic reaches further than just our city, state, or country. The interest in this topic spans the world over.

Thank you for your time, I will be waiting for your decision.

603. "Pay off your Debt. Sell us a Forest!"

As an answer to many countries' debt problem and as a means of saving natural resources, especially tropical forests which affect global warming and weather patterns, the US government came up with a novel concept. The nature swap through the Tropical Forest Conservation Act of 1998 (TFCA) - to exchange the debt of forest-rich countries for conservation mechanisms designed to protect the forests.

The Act, according to a US Embassy press release will allow developing countries to shed their debt burden, while helping them to preserve natural forests. In consultation with the US government the debtor country can set up a fund or board consisting of local NGO representatives to preserve tropical forests. The value of debt will be converted to local currency and programs initiated by the board will be paid in local value.

According to them Sri Lanka's most pristine forests- the Sinharaja rainforest, Peak Wilderness, Namunukula forest and the Knuckles forest range are in danger under the debt recovery act and Sinharaja forest will be the main victim.

The United States and Japan have already taken 45 patent rights for medicinal plants in Sri Lanka. There may be hundreds of such indigenous properties in our tropical forests which will be the future of our financial stability. Under this, we fear that, it will pave the way for uncontrolled exploitation of these assets.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Forestry and Environment in Sri Lanka appointed a committee to look into the TFCA, counteracting the speculations of selling off the virgin forests to United States to offset national debt. There are remarkable similarities between the wording of the US Act and the intentions of the donor agencies as outlined in the ADB Report. At first glance it all seems ideally suited to countries such as Sri Lanka which have high international debts, and yet require funding to maintain its rich biodiversity. However, on close scrutiny, questions arise as to the intent motivating such apparent generosity. After all it is ironic that the United States is so concerned about the environmental well-being of the rest of the world that it refuses to sign the Kyoto Convention on controlling carbon dioxide emissions despite being the creator of the largest volume of these emissions!

So, do not allow capital countries to exploit poor countries' natural forests, full of genetic assets. We all should oppose it.

604. Cancel the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement

On January 1, 1997 the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement came into effect. The idea of this agreement, which eliminated 80% of tarrifs between the two countries, was founded during more peaceful days in the Holy Land. Now, however, Israel is committing terrible crimes against the Palestinian people. These crimes, such as torture and harbouring war criminals, plainly violate international law.

Canada cannot continue its overly friendly relations with Israel under such conditions. The agreement while granting Israel great wealth causes Palestinian businesses to lose an estimated 6 million American dollars a day. This petition is for the cancelation of the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement.

605. Free the Slaves in Sudan

Background: during much of the last 18 years, a devastating war has been raging in Sudan. It has cost the lives of two million people and forced more than four million people from their homes and ancestral lands. The war is marked by a systematic campaign of terror by the government in Khartoum against its own people, especially Christians and practitioners of African traditional religions.

The denial of religious freedom in the North, the systematic persecution of Christians, and the destruction of African cultural identity lie at the heart of the conflict. Religion and culture are manipulated by a government that thirsts for power and money. While the principal responsibility lies with the Khartoum government, there are credible reports of human rights abuses in the South, notably by the Sudanese People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A), the main rebel group in southern Sudan.

For the more than thirty million Sudanese living in the largest country in Africa, the war continues to disrupt their lives, forcing them to live in a permanent state of insecurity and fear. The bombings of hospitals, schools, churches, homes and fields by the government in Khartoum continues to threaten the lives of innocent civilians in the south and other contested areas, including the Nuba Mountains. The government also denies humanitarian access to international donor agencies that seek to provide food, medicines and other items vital to the survival of those most vulnerable.

The bishops of Sudan fully support the Declaration of Principles that was signed by the two major parties to the conflict. The Declaration of Principles provide a framework for a comprehensive cease-fire, conditions for the creation of an interim government, an equitable distribution of economic resources, and the holding of a referendum in the South to allow the people to decide for themselves their political future. Support by the U.S. government and the international community for peace initiatives based on these fundamental principles is essential if there is to be a just and lasting peace. It is also critical that all parties to the conflict, the regional neighbors of Sudan and the international community, cooperate as broadly as possible in this process.

USCC Recent Trip to Sudan: A delegation of bishops from the USCC recently visited Khartoum and southern Sudan. They witnessed, first hand, the suffering of the Sudanese people, especially the more than 2 million internally displaced living in and around Khartoum in a permanent situation of insecurity, harassment, religious and social isolation and economic exclusion. War in the South and other contested areas has caused tremendous human suffering. Aerial bombardments of civilian targets by the government in Khartoum continues. Thousands of people are driven from their homes and lands in oil-rich areas.

USCC Position: The Sudanese government must stop bombings of civilian targets in the south and other contested areas.

The Sudanese government and rebel groups must halt the abduction and enslavement of the Sudanese from oil-rich areas and northern Bahr Al-Ghazal region, as well as other human rights violations.

The Sudanese government, the international community and multinational oil companies must take steps to ensure that revenues generated by the development of oil resources are not used to fuel the war.

The Sudanese government must respect religious freedom and a the many African cultures represented by the Sudanese peoples and stop its program of forced Islamization and Arabization.

Action Requested: We urge that all Catholics and others of good will write to the President of the United States and the Secretary of State with two specific requests: That the new U.S. administration raise the level of involvement of the President of the United States and the Secretary of State in the matter of Sudan, and that it press our allies in Europe and elsewhere to bring increased diplomatic pressure upon the Government of Sudan to work for a just resolution to the war. Also, that the President name a high-level Special Envoy to Sudan who will be given a clear mandate and have direct access to the President and the Secretary of Sudan

606. Letter of disappointment to EU and UN

Dear Excellencies,

I am writing you in response to your criticism over the Government of Macedonia's latest action against the Albanian terrorists (i.e. as you refer to them as "armed rebels and extremists"). Your "disappointment" on how the latest crisis around Aracinovo was handled, had particularly provoked me to express MY bitterness and deep disappointment regarding the following:

1. I am very disappointed to hear that your excellencies have been disturbedby the fact that the Government of Macedonia had to take decisive action against armed groups who threaten the people of Macedonia and use weapons as a tool to legitimize themselves and their actions (often later acting as "the victims themselves"); furthermore, I am equally disappointed by the actions of the Swedish security forces (Sweden is currently presiding
with the EU) against peace protesters in Gothenburg during the EU Summit in mid-June.

2. I am very disappointed that your Excellencies have not taken into consideration the fact that all parties involved in the process of reconstructing Kosovo have failed to restore a lasting peace, law and order in the neighboring Yugoslav province of Kosovo, which permanently produces negative consequences for the peace and stability of the whole region(including the Republic of Macedonia).

3. Furthermore, I am very disappointed and disturbed to see lack of willingness by your respective governments to build multiethnic Kosovo, as previously pledged.

4. Many Macedonian citizens (despite of their ethnic or religious affiliation) are stunned by the fact that international humanitarian
organizations are vigorous only when it comes to helping unfortunate ethnic Albanians and neglecting the others in need.

5. I am alarmed to find out that you have FINALLY been disturbed by the crisis in Macedonia and kindly ask you to go back in time and figure out when was the exact and right time for you to be really upset!

6. I am disappointed to realize that you think it is the Macedonian
Constitution that generates the current crisis. I would kindly refer you to the Constitution of the neighboring Republic of Albania and ask you to read all of it (including its Preamble).

7. I am very disappointed that all of you failed to employ due diligence as you have done so during the peak of the current crisis and "discover" that there is no "Slav" majority - rather ethnic Macedonians and that there is no one third ethnic Albanian population in Macedonia - rather 22,9% according to the 1994 census, conducted (believe it or not) by The Council of Europe itself and its ICOM (International Census Observation Mission) in Macedonia led by Mr. Robert McMurray of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Certain Media based in your respective countries are still insulting a greater majority of the population by naming them "Slavs" which does not correspond to their true ethnic affiliation. We have never heard an affirmative comment from them talking about "citizens of Macedonia" if nothing else.

8. I am very disappointed that my country's name is still FYROM, thanks to your "proved" interest in defending and promoting fundamental human rights and freedoms (among those let me remind you about the freedom of expression and self-determination). In addition, I am insulted by the fact that the EU mission in Skopje represented by Mr. Teixeira is named the "Delegation of the European Commission to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, FYROM, Skopje"!

9. Let me remind you that you still have an ongoing obligation and a pledge to protect Macedonia and its borders particularly the volatile one with Kosovo), made in the eve of the NATO intervention against Yugoslavia. Kosovo's well being cannot be constructed on behalf of the misery of its neighbors, just for the sake of "showing its success story" which so far exists not.

10. I am very disappointed that some of your envoys are beginning to "shoulder" and chit chat with those who undeniably want the partition of my country. If that indeed is your last word on Macedonia also, then let us not waste more time and lives and let the demarcation begin immediately, rather than pressure for continuation of a political dialogue containing ridiculous
bargaining over rights and powers which involves parties who per se have no legitimate right to negotiate on such issues exclusively. If you all truly want the stability and the peace in this region your missionaries would at the moment be assisting the government rather than act as a "taxi-service" to all those who came in uninvited, to kill, threaten, block water supplies and force civilians to leave their homes and properties just because they do not fit into their xenophobic scenario and "cause".

11. Dear Excellencies, it is true Macedonia has little money to buy weapons and rockets, but when it comes to defending our values and freedom such money is well spent to our minds. Loyal citizens do not fear legitimate security forces. Criminals do!

12. Let me in the end express my hope that you will reconsider your position toward Macedonia and its certainly "imperfect" Government and convey a clear message of support to those of us who act and work toward further democratization and the European prospective of Macedonia. All those inspired by the "freedom fighters" clearly demonstrated fear and disbelieve in the European integration itself. I guess your Excellencies this is the last chance for you to decide are you going to give a credit to those who would rather stand on the demarcation line, than to those committed to pursue the way of the integration toward Europe, without alternatives and preconditions and no matter how hard and challenging it is.

607. Aces Missing In Alston's Deck

The Federal Government is planning to ban all forms of Australian Licensed Internet Wagering Services. Legislation to be debated in Federal Parliament in June 2001 will, if passed, require all licensed Australian Internet Wagering Providers to close down their Internet Services.

Whichever way you look at it, Communications Minister Senator Richard Alston's attempt to ban internet gambling amounts to nothing more than a deeply flawed empty gesture from a hypocritical Government concerned not with policy, but with promoting a kind of nannyism which makes sense only to the politically gullible.

The British website "The Register" (www.theregister.co.uk) took one look at Alston's announcement last month and declared: "This man must be the biggest Luddite in history." It went on to say Alston's proposals pointed to "an overwhelming miscomprehension of the Internet" which "seems dedicated to ... destroying Australia's internet industry."

And we wonder why our currency is heading south so fast it will soon match Glenn McGrath's batting average. The world looks at Australia to now see an online gambling ban alongside worthless pornography legislation, a bizarre copyright ruling involving the forwarding of emails and a digital TV debacle of bewildering proportions. However, there's no denying gambling is a problem. We are veracious punters. This puerile logic has been used to decide the Government's online gambling legislation. If you have a computer, then you're just a click away from being a pathological punter. What hasn't been recognised is the fact that betting via the internet is a matter of choice and a matter of convenience. By denouncing Alston's moves and calling for the maintenance of our democratic and net freedoms, I am not trying to encourage gambling, quite the opposite. The net is built on a culture of freedom -- not just financially -- but also in an individual making choices, and as such, it should be free of controls, censorship or Alston-style regulations.

We can expect some strange rules within the legislation. If you believe a word Alston and Co are saying, they must also be dedicated to portraying Australians as heartless exporters of misery and family degradation. Why? Australian gambling sites will not be allowed to serve their compatriots, but they will be permitted to transact with foreigners. Obviously, our ministers feel no social obligation to a struggling family in Auckland blighted by gambling. They don't vote here, so to hell with them! Also, "Australian businesses wanting to offer betting services will attract off-shore customers", says Alston, "because we are seen to be a 'safe place' in terms of collecting". It's bizarre... we as Australians can't have "safe" services; however outsiders can?! The Government will not make ISPs filter gambling traffic, a tacit acknowledgment that a ban, in the true sense of the word, is an impossible mission. Therefore, Australians will be able to gamble on overseas sites. Just to recap ... Aussies can't gamble in their own country, but foreigners can, yet Aussies can go to overseas sites for a bet. The result of this will be pretty simple: Australians with a gambling problem will do their dosh overseas, and our local, legitimate gambling industry will be on the next flight out of here. Worst of all, this legislation lets the sharks back in to replace respectable businesses, such as Lasseters Casino, SportOdds, Centrebet, Readbet etc.

What are they smoking in Canberra? Some responsibility for this debacle has to taken by the National Office for the Information Economy, which is completely out of touch. It asked a services vendor -- of all organisations -- for a report on the possibility of enforcing a complete ban. NOIE reports: "ComTech found there are technologies available to implement a ban on interactive gambling. The Government could deploy these technologies at various 'enforcement points'. However, none of the technologies would be 100 per cent effective at preventing access to offshore interactive gambling sites and all would have negative consequences for internet performance." Gartner analyst Joe Sweeney says such a move would cost at least $US300 million ($612 million) and send many of the smaller ISPs to the wall.
The fact is, no-one can enforce a blanket ban on anything on the internet. China and the Gulf States continue to wage a pathetic war against freedom of information in the same way -- and they continue to fail. It is obvious that the Australian Government are ignorant of the fact that the net was designed by the US Defence Department specifically to avoid blocking.

If online gambling is banned, then where does that leave cyber share trading, which has been called the riskiest casino of them all, capable of hooking day traders into a cycle of addiction, loss and suffering? Talk about a modern version of Reefer Madness!

A solution to curbing online gambling abuse is relatively simple and does not require John Howard's parental methods. Firstly, regulation rather than prohibition should be encouraged. Only if gambling operators felt the rules outweigh the benefits, would regulation fail. Problem gamblers, or those under-age, could be dissuaded in a number of ways. Consider these US Internet Gaming Council tactics:
* Compulsory site membership before placing a bet. Applicants to supply proof of age.
* Establishment of a $1000 account before a gambler is allowed to play and a float never to be less than $200.
* Credit cards as the only form of payment (No-one under 18 is permitted to own one).
* Establishment of list of identified problem gamblers that casino sites should bar.
* Obligation on credit card companies and banks to approve transactions online with only approved online gambling sites. A government list of approved gambling sites, so gamblers know they are going to get a fair shake of the dice.
Many countries were looking to Australia for leadership on the issue of online gambling -- and an unworkable and flawed blanket ban was the best we could come up with. It's a pretty sad indictment on a country once renowned for its ingenuity and courage.

Sign this petition OPPOSING the Federal Government's proposal to ban all forms of Internet Wagering on racing & sports events by licensed Australian Operators, and it will be submitted to the respective offices of Prime Minister John Howard and Senator Richard Alston. Protect your right for online choice, convenience and freedom.

609. Free Kashmir and Others in India

In 1947 India and Pakistan came into existence breaking free from British colonial rule. The agreement signed by the three declared that all the states would be given a chance to vote and pledge their allegiance to either Pakistan or India.

Unfortunately the State of Kashmir was never given that chance. In the past 50 years the Indian government has repeatedly in the International Community promised to fulfill this mandatory obligation.

Today the Indian Military has killed nearly 60,000 unarmed civilians and displaced over 100,000 others in order to forcefully occupy the Land of Kashmir.

Unfortunately Kashmir is not the only one oppressed by the fascist Indian regime. There are 17 other minority states that are oppressed and are subject to the worst type of Human Rights abuse in the world. Kashmir and Punjab are the worst treated among them.

The problem for us is that we get NO SAY in the W.Gov.(commonly known as Globalisation). Its only purpose is for more Power to the Mega-Rich and MultiNational Corps. This is who the U.N. REALLY help.

Most countries now have a VAT/GST tax which the W.Gov. will take control of, the UN want each country to contribute Troops to it. Under the Human Rights Comm. it is overriding our laws. The sentences of James Bolgers' child killers is one example. Etc. Their program is going ahead at a rapid pace so we need to act on it NOW.

613. Coalition for the DC Animal Shelter

Whereas, the District of Columbia government is currently in the process of awarding a new contract to manage the city's animal control and animal shelter efforts.

Whereas, the last time the city undertook this process, five years ago, the contract was initially awarded to an underqualified, inexperienced, and poorly funded organization.

Whereas, just four months later, the shelter was in chaos, the animals' living areas were filthy, and the adoptions program was in total disarray.

Whereas, at the time, dogs and cats were packed in overcrowded conditions and left in cages covered with their own waste, often with little or no food, while sick and injured animals sometimes went for days without treatment.

Whereas, only after a series of news stories uncovered the horrific conditions there and the D.C. Council held a hearing on the issue was a new contract awarded to the Washington Humane Society, the group that currently manages both programs.

Whereas, it appears that a similar process is unfolding this year, and that the contract may once again be awarded to an organization that does not have the experience, qualifications, or financial stability to fulfill its mission in aiding and protecting the animals and people of the city.

Whereas, the city's budget process has left this year's contract vastly underfunded.

Whereas, the DC animal control and shelter programs cost roughly $1.3 million to run in the current fiscal year, yet the city's budget for next year only allocates $700,000 for both programs.

Whereas, the average amount spent on animal control in 16 comparable U.S. cities is $2.62 per resident per year, yet the District would be spending less than half that amount -- only $1.22 per person. (source: National Animal Control Association)

Whereas, it would clearly be difficult, if not impossible, for any organization to provide the animal control and shelter services the people and animals of D.C. deserve for the amount budgeted by the city.

Whereas, dozens of prominent animal welfare and pet support organizations have joined together in the Coalition for the D.C. Animal Shelter to fight for the city's animal shelter and control contract to be fully funded and awarded to a qualified group.

Whereas, the goal of the Coalition is not to advocate or promote the merits of any particular humane organization in the contract process, only to ensure that the contract is fully funded and fairly awarded to a qualified organization.

Whereas, the Coalition believes that any organization hired to run the shelter and animal control needs to be experienced in law enforcement, have a track record in shelter management and be financially stable.

615. California's Child & Family Protection Initiative

a) The protection of California's most vulnerable citizens, its children, should be the most important objective of government.

b) Although providing an important public service, current programs designed to protect children often times do more harm than good. Far too many tragedies, including serious physical and emotional injury to children and the unnecessary destruction of families, have occurred in recent years. The system must be reformed to restore fundamental fairness and promote protection of children and preservation of families.

c)California law requires cases where a child has been removed from his or her family due to alleged abuse or neglect to be heard within 15 days in order to bring speedy resolution to the matter and to minimize trauma to the child. However, thousands of children are kept away from their families for months on end by unnecessary government delays, resulting in tremendous costs to parents and taxpayers. In many cases, other family members are willing and able to care for these children, yet the current system does not promote preservation of the family.

d) The right to a jury trial is fundamental in our system of government. However, under existing law, a child can be removed from the care of his or her parents based only on allegations of abuse or neglect without the government having to present evidence justifying removal to a judge and jury.

e)This system, designed by politicians to protect children, instead often results in delay, excessive costs, mistakes, and family break-ups. IT IS IMPORTANT TO PROTECT CHILDREN FROM ABUSE AND NEGLECT, BUT IT IS JUST AS IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE THAT CHILDREN ARE NOT WRONGFULLY REMOVED FROM THEIR PARENTS IN THE FIRST PLACE.

f) Abuse of the process is cloaked in secrecy because such juvenile proceedings are not open to the public.

g) Recently, several studies, grand jury investigations, and oversight hearings have brought these problems into clear focus. However, our elected representatives have failed to take action.

h) In order to protect the health and well-being of children, the people of the state of California hereby enact the Child and Family Protection Act to establish the right to a jury in juvenile dependency hearings, the right to a public hearing, the right to a speedy resolution and the promotion of family over government-sponsored care whenever possible.

If you would like more information or would like to assist in our efforts, please send an email to neff@cavalier-assoc.com.

616. SAVE THE VALLEY OF THE GIANTS

Greens Senator Bob Brown is leading a campaign to save the tallest flowering plants in the world in the 'Valley of the Giants' in Tasmania. The Trees in the Styx valley, just 2 hours from Hobart, are the second tallest trees on the planet just behind the Redwoods in California.

These trees are averaging 500 years of age. One of these Eucalyptus regnans, which means 'king of the eucalypts' measured 134 metres high. It is registered in the Guiness Book of Records as the world's tallest ever tree.

These magnificent forests are being logged for woodchips for the Japanese paper mills by the Howard Government and the Tasmanian State ALP Government. The Wilderness Society and the Greens in Tasmania are fighting back with the best weapon they know - public opinion. Each weekend, the Society hosts busloads of visitors to the Valley of the Giants.

Pictures of the splendour, as well as the slaughter, of these forests are being sent to scientists, politicians and environment groups around the world. The aim is to have the Howard Government and Labor Opposition drop their support for logging and, united, declare the Valley of the Giants a national park and World Heritage Area.

Please help to save this living breathing forest of the giants.

619. Presedential Election Discrimination Awareness

Election Day. For many people this was a chance to voice their opinion, be a part of their country, and decide the future of their country. As most of you are aware, there were several thousand votes in dispute, many because people did not understand the voting card. Racial discrimination might be a factor, and also Jeb Bush, George W. Bush's brother, and governor of Florida, might also have had an impact of how the votes were counted. In any event, by signing this petition, you are stating that you are dissatisfied with the election turnout, and you beleive that George W. Bush is the illegitimate winner of the presedential election. Even if we cannot undo the damage already done to our country, we can let the government know how unhappy we are. 621. Human Rights for Asylum Seekers

Refugees are people who are fleeing from serious danger. ie war, political persecution, famine, economic crisis or natural disasters. In the uk asylum seekers face difficulties and barriers: widespread, indiscriminate detention; poverty; poor housing; poor access to healthcare; lack of training and employment opportunities.
In housing, lower standards are applied for families seeking asylum than for other families. The vouchers refugee families receive are set at a lower value than Income Support levels and stigmatise asylum-seekers. Many children who have lost their families and seek asylum do not receive the same care that is routinely offered to other children in need. When the Government signed up to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1991, they made an exception - refugee children. Asylum seekers come here because their lives and/or the wellbeing of their families and homes are in danger. They would not choose to leave there homes and families out of choice. They are the victims of war and famine and drought and poverty and they need our help. we are a country of plenty, and it is our responsibility as a civilised, developed nation and as human beings to give these people a home and a chance and treat them with compassion and respect.

622. Basic Human Rights for Asylum Seekers

Moreover, many children who have lost their families and seek asylum do not receive the same care that is routinely offered to other children in need.

623. Release Dr. Biscet from Cuban jail

Dr. Oscar Elías Biscet González was born of humble origin in Havana, Cuba on July 20, 1961. Dr. Biscet is a political prisoner in Cuba where the dictatorship says it holds no political prisoners. Yet a multitude of respected human rights organizations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have reported that Cuba does indeed have many political prisoners. Dr. Biscet is considered an Amnesty International prisoner of conscience.
Dr. Biscet is the founder and president of the Lawton Foundation, an organization considered illegal by Fidel Castro's government. The Lawton Foundation peacefully promotes the defense of all human rights through nonviolent civil disobedience. Dr. Biscet, a follower of Thoreau, Gandhi and Martin Luther King, has been mistreated physically and psychologically, has suffering beatings, threats, humiliations, blackmails, intimidating interrogations, and is now unjustly incarcerated by the Castro regime.

624. Legalise marijuana for recreational use

The plant that has been used as a recreational drug since pre Sumerian times is widley used among today's societies. The drug is kept illegal by a government that is only following the propaganda of a 1936 media tycoon who claimed the plant to be the devil's weed and brought in the name marijuana which is the Mexican word for weed.

The drug is less harmful than cigarettes and has a much more socially acceptable effect on people than alcohol.

So tell the government to get with the times and legalise this plant for everyday use. This could be an historic petition of national and worlwide importance. Plese sign.

625. Time To Go

The British Government has murdered innocent Irish children, divided one religion against the other, and uses it's secret service to make the IRA look like massachists. Time for the British Government to run their own country and none other.

627. Provincial Government spending

The Ontario government is currently spending too much on advocate advertising, rather than informative. Brochures, booklets and pamphlets come in the mail and are thick, flamboyant, and expensive. This is costing the Ontario provincial government millions of dollars, only by promoting their name.

628. Make all TAXES, Fines, And Fees voluntary

All power in a capitalistic society is based in money. Our elections are questionable at best and the ordained winners of said elections determine how much will be given to support any issue or person. The people of this great nation should determine how much personal income is spent to finance the government. The government has a constitutional right to tax, fine, and set fees; however, through a referendum we the people can take the mandatory punishment away from government by making all such monetary compensation voluntary.

The time is now to pull the dog's teeth.

629. Abolish The Federal Reserve System

It's a simple fact that those who control the money control the country. People in the United States have been led to believe that because the Federal Reserve has the word "federal" in it, that it is some how part of the United States Government. It is not nor has it ever been. The Federal Reserve System has accepted every man, woman and child's property as collateral for the National Debt. The I.R.S. was created to service the Federal Reserve.

Unless we the people begin to control our paper currency system we will never have a real choice of who runs this country. We will always be given the choices before us provided by the international bankers. Our taxes will always be heavy
and that's how they maintain control. If the U. S. Government Printed U.S. Treasury notes and distributed what it created, the Control of this Country would return to the People. The money you make would be yours. Mom could stay home with the kids. Your jobs wouldn't be leaving for Mexico.

The Root of what's wrong with America is its money system and who controls it. On C-span when this subject comes up congressmen always stands up and defend this system and that's because they are cowards. That's because the Federal Reserve System does have the power to make or break us.

The American people need that power back. That is what freedom is all about.

630. IRRADIATED FOODS

Ninety percent of the foregoing irradiation report was written by Frontier, premier supplier of bulk herbs and spices untouched by government hands. From the facts of the foregoing: the little bottles and cans of $3 or $4 per ounce spices and herbs flying under one name or another in your supermart are serious poisons. And every commercially manufactured food item, no exceptions, is highly suspect for irradiation. There is no way for you to determine the truth. You are rendered totally helpless by our friendly government FDA and Congress in support of the food manufacturing industry.

When I discovered this topic in May 1995 when I read the interview published in the newsletter Nutrition and Healing that follows this report, I stopped eating restaurant food and stopped buying any processed foods off the shelf or in refrigerators in the store. I didn't stop buying irradiated spices until 1998 because I wasn't aware that the supermarket spices are all radioactive until I ran into a display of non-irradiated spices and began asking questions. Wow!

These poisons are approved and sponsored by the United States federal
government. The agency responsible for this official approval to offer you
atomic energy poison, radioactive minerals, is the Food and Drug
Administration. This agency, FDA, is specifically chartered to protect you
and me from exactly such poisons. This is not an error, or innocent ignorance.

Now you know that you are on your own in these matters. Nobody is coming to
help you.
