1. Georgetown International Graduate Students Need University Housing
International graduate students comprise a significant part of the graduate student population at Georgetown University. With their diverse backgrounds, commitment to Georgetown's ideals and high achievement, they are an integral part of the community and contribute significantly to the academic tradition of the University.
At the same time, international graduate students face multiple challenges in moving to a new country to attend school, among them housing. This is due to unfamiliarity with the housing market in the United States and the short window of time they have between their arrival and the start of the academic year.
This places unnecessary burden on international students who are forced to tackle the intricacies of finding housing in a new place with unfamiliar regulations on a tight schedule. Students end up in sub-standard housing or locked into contracts they do not fully understand which greatly impacts the quality of their experience at Georgetown.
For these reasons, and keeping in mind the commitment of Georgetown University to provide an environment conducive to a rewarding academic experience, it is essential that the University take steps to address this issue.
2. OPPOSE GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY’S 2010-2020 CAMPUS PLAN
Georgetown University’s 2010-2020 proposed campus plan proposes no new student housing -- a priority issue for the community -- and therefore does nothing to mitigate the problems created by the current density of undergraduate and graduate students living in the neighborhoods.
Indeed by proposing to increase student enrollment by almost 3700 students* the Plan will exacerbate existing objectionable conditions and accelerate the already alarming conversion of single-family homes to group rental units.
Many of these houses are poorly maintained and can often house up to six individuals each, threatening the fragile balance needed to preserve our neighborhoods.
An increase in group rental housing will exacerbate already objectionable levels of noisy, rude, and unsafe alcohol-fueled behavior and will increase traffic and parking problems.
Other negative aspects of its plan include the proposed new loop road, the roof over Yates Sportscenter, and the alignment of 38th Street NW with GU’s main campus and hospital entrance.

3. Plan A: Hoyas for Reproductive Justice Petition
Issues related to reproductive choices disproportionately affect the lives of people in historically marginalized communities, such as women, people of color, and the economically disadvantaged.
As a Catholic, Jesuit institution, Georgetown University claims to advocate on behalf of these communities and commit itself to the principles of social justice and a free exchange of ideas. By limiting dialogue, access to information, and resources concerning sexual health, Georgetown fails to live up to its professed mission and endangers the lives of students on campus.
