1. Hillsborough County Citizens for Backyard Poultry
Green practices sweep the nation and our individual communities, yet we have found that there is at least one useful practice that is not allowed in Hillsborough County, backyard poultry keeping.
Backyard poultry keeping is not permitted for residentially zoned properties in the unincorporated portions of Hillsborough County even though it is allowed in the Cities. Backyard Bee Keeping is even allowed but not the raising of the much safer chicken.
We believe that allowing backyard poultry in Hillsborough County will promote individual sustainability practices and public welfare without sacrificing the safety or health of the citizens in our county.
2. End the long process to bad renter evictions in Florida
In Florida, renters have too many rights. Rights that extend above the landlord. The eviction process should only take 1-2 weeks if the renter does not pay. They should not be allowed to stay in a property for free until the courts decide whether or not to evict them.
Presently, to delay matters, renters only need to respond without paying any money to stay longer in a home. Where is the justice in this? A simple response to the court can delay getting them out for another few weeks. Meanwhile, they can do as much damage to your property as they like and not be responsible. Again, where is the justice in this? Florida courts need to be more proactive in the eviction process.
Fort Myers courts, in general need to listen to landlords when they show up to court on time and the renter does not. In other states when a renter does not show up for court they are evicted and not given a second chance. Why is it in Flroida they are given a second chance?
The Mascotte City Council is hearing a proposal to build a landfill on 250 acres of environmentally sensitive land. The land borders on farms and residential areas.
The proposal has already passed a first reading, and is up for a second vote on October 3rd at the City Council meeting. They are in a rush to pass this to pay for past bad financial decisions, but the numbers don't add up. There are other alternatives to solve the city's financial difficulties, like consolidating services with neighboring towns.
We feel the requested site imposes a severe threat ti the health and welfare of our families, and that approval of such a site and plan is reckless and dangerous action by the commissioners.
4. More reliable "Pest Control" services for Windrift Apartments
Upon residing in my Windrift Apartment roaches, as well as other pests, have become a constant nuisance. I have lived on the premises for 9 months now and my lease and agreement is up on October 3, 2011.
I have made several attempts to resolve the issue to no avail. Not only to roaches occupy the home but also ear-wigs, waterbugs, knats, and worms.

Allen West is a man of unusual honesty, integrity, intelligence, education, common sense and sound judgment.
Allen West is a man of profoundly Judeo-Christian values. He is strongly pro-life. He is strongly pro-Israel. He correctly understands Islam and the threat it poses to America.
He is beholden to no special interest group. He would carry out the duties of his office in the best interests of America.
6. Stop the Fluoridation of Gainesville's drinking water
Water fluoridation is an outdated practice that carries with it serious health risks and offers little to no benefit. Current studies clearly demonstrate that that populations living in communities with fluoridated water are showing dangerously high levels of dental fluorosis, the physical manifestation of systemic fluoride toxicity.
This medicine comes with no control as to how much each individual is receiving. People who depend on high water intake such as infants on formula and athletes are consuming much more fluoride than someone that is older and more sedentary. This puts them at higher risk of fluorosis which has a myriad of chronic and debilitating symptoms. Municipalities with or without fluoridated water show statistically equivalent tooth decay rates.
Water fluoridation also carries serious ethical and legal issues. First and foremost citizens of Gainesville are being forced to ingest a medicine without their consent and many without the knowledge of it. There are also no warnings provided by GRU or the city alerting mothers to not use tap water for infant formula., something the CDC is advising Americans.
There are much better alternatives to water fluoridation. Tooth decay is not caused by lack of water fluoridation. It is caused by poor diet and dental hygiene. Proper dental hygiene should be taught in schools and made part of the daily routine in elementary schools. If in fact an individual needs fluoride supplementation, they can pursue that treatment individually or be prescribed a treatment plan by a dentist.
7. Support a registry of domestic violence convictions in Florida
The domestic violence problem needs more attention in our nation. Unfortunately though, it’s not been nearly enough to get it under control.
Time and time again, the court system, including DA’s, lawyers and judges have exhibited nearly collusion with the perpetrators by their real lack of holding the perpetrators fully responsible for their actions and choices by issuing only what amounts to a slap on the wrist and very little real accountability of the perpetrators of the crimes.
Even if they are found guilty, few are ever held fully accountable for their violent atrocities against their spouses and by the children exposed to their example, by them being able to negotiate plea deals and receiving a drastically reduced sentences or early outs. The victims are left confused, trampled and mostly devastated by what happens. They are essentially re-victimized by the system a second time. It sends out the very worst and absolutely the wrong message to those who do these acts, to their significant others, to the children who also see this and to all others.
Let all of us stand up and demand that abusers are held accountable for their actions. We need to stop the cycle and teach all of our children how to disagree with people in our lives without using abusive tactics.
As bullying is an offshoot of the abusive trait found in today’s society, let us make the abusers and bullies responsible for the choices that they make in regard to how they treat their family members and others. Battering is always an intentional behavior.
8. Concealed Carry on Florida's Campuses
Every student has the right to protect themselves on or off campus.
9. National Safe Seafood Council's Petition for Testing
Since the BP Oil Disaster, America's Gulf seafood has been in question. As Americans watched the millions gallons of oil pouring into the Gulf of Mexico in horror, those businesses and families that depend on the Gulf for their livelihoods held their breath.
While the people of the Gulf had seen oil spills before, the BP Oil Spill would change the environment and their lives for generations to come. It seems that Washington DC thinks Americans are simply naive and that be issuing a few press releases and some commercials that everything will be fine. Well Mr. President, I for one can say that is not good enough.
More needs to be done and it needs to be done right now before these hard working people, who want only to work for their money, become another statistic in what history is sure call America's worst nightmare. Do you feel safe Mr. President feeding this seafood to your children and what it may do to them on a cellular level? Do you fear what it may do to your grand children because that is what "we the people" fear the most!
There seems to be only one organization that has made a commitment to any kind of stand on this issue. The NationalSafe SeafoodCouncil.com has been created by some of the same people effected by this disaster and they are committed to see this through until funding is provided for proper long term testing.
10. Petition to Deny Parole for Cop Killer Thomas Desherlia
Deputy Marshal Parker was shot after responding to a report of a man driving over a bulkhead at the St. Augustine Beach pier. Upon arrival to the pier he was directed to a nearby hotel where witnesses said the driver had gone.
He arrived at the hotel and made contact with the subject. He obtained the man's identification and directed him to come back to the patrol car so he could drive him back to the location of where the car drove off the pier. As the man got into the passenger door he suddenly pulled out a handgun and opened fire, striking Deputy Marshal Parker in the neck. Despite being mortally wounded, Deputy Marshal Parker was able to pull the patrol car around the hotel. The suspect returned to the scene moments later, pulled Deputy Marshal Parker from the vehicle and then drove away in the patrol car.
Unbeknownst to Deputy Marshal Parker, the suspect was wanted for a bank robbery in Iowa and a double murder of security officers in Alabama. The man had inadvertently given Deputy Marshal Parker his real identification and opened fire when he realized that his identity would be revealed.
11. Petition to Deny Parole for Cop Killer Sammie Lee Mathis
Detective Sullivan was shot and killed while conducting an undercover drug buy with his partner. Detective Sullivan was the money man in the operation while his partner attempted to purchase the drugs. As Detective Sullivan sat in a pickup truck one of the suspects ambushed him, stole the money, and fled.
The shooter was apprehended in Tampa a short time later and sentenced to life. His accomplice was apprehended in Spain several years later and extradited back to Florida where he was also sentenced to life.
Detective Sullivan had been with the agency for six years and was survived by his wife, parents, two brothers, sister and nephew.
12. Support the relief and help efforts for the Gulf Oil spill
I want relief for the Gulf Oil Spill as it is killing our wildlife and hurting our local fishermen and their families.
The oil spill is currently not under control.
It makes me mad that relief efforts can be made to Haiti and other countries so quick when right here in our own country our Wildlife is currently dying due to this Oil spill currently in the Gulf of Mexico.
13. Declare the Gulf Region a Disaster Area!!
British Petroleum Oil Company, or BP had an oil rig explode off the coast of Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico which led to a huge oil spill that is still currently flowing as of the date of this petition.
President Obama needs to declare the region a disaster area and bring aid to animals and tourism in the area, as well as make sure that the clean up begins NOW!!!
Go after BP Mr. Obama!
14. BP's president should resign
The Gulf spill has been occurring over too long a period with only failed attempts to control the massive leak.
There was a leaky valve that was known to have existed for years on the well. Why wasn't that repaired?
15. The Florida Open Carry Initiative
Throughout our history, the ability to be armed for self defense has been essential to our liberty. Today, the Florida state legislators have stripped the people of the ability to openly carry arms. This policy is inconsistent with that of a free society. The elimination of an open carry arms policy leads to corruption, the loss of liberty, and to a state of perpetual tyranny.
Here are a few thoughts that our forefathers left us with in regards to a well armed people.
“The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
-Thomas Jefferson
“Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty's teeth.”
-George Washington
“The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”
-Thomas Jefferson
A free people ought to be armed."
- George Washington
“To disarm the people is the most effectual way to enslave them” .
-George Mason
Help petition against Florida Senate Bill 6 which would require school systems to evaluate and pay teachers based on their students standardized test scores.
Teacher experience would not matter either and student test scores would determine which teachers are laid-off or not. This is an unjust bill that unfairly evaluates teachers and needs to be stopped!
17. Legalize It
Legalization of marijuana should take place in the state of Florida reasons for this are many profits generated could help support education, roads and highways, and even help public funds for food stamps.
Statistics show 20% of all Americans smoke weed this shows there is money to be made the product could be taxed and sold where cigarettes are sold.
Facts show the following:
1. It is not addictive
2. It does not cause over dose
3. It is natural
4. Is much less harmful than ciggarettes
5.Has strong support
6. Many powerful and influential people in the U.S. have used it
7. It stave's off Alzheimer’s
8. Marijuana helps with: Stress Relief, Pain Relief, Meditation, Eating Disorders
9. Marijuana has been around since ancient times
10. Marijuana does NOT cause violent behavior
This should be plenty enough reasons to support my thoughts and I think many will agree.
18. Stop Progress Energy Increased Rates
Progress Energy has recently increased their bills causing people to pay twice their normal bills to pay for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Tampa, Florida. Nuclear power is very dangerous, and to place one in a populated area is indisputably reckless.
The cost of the plant is 17 billion dollars and Progress Energy currently serves 1.7 million people. This means that the price each household will pay (if split evenly) is 10,000 dollars. At the current rate, a little less that 8 percent (115.32 annually), this increase will be in effect for nearly 87 years unless more increases are to come to speed up the process. That's 87 years of these intense conditions, and in order to reduce the time, the payments must increase even more.
If you think it doesn't apply to you because you don't live in Florida think again. President Obama stated on February 16th "Investing in nuclear energy remains a necessary step" and "this is only the beginning." He plans to create nuclear power plants all over the US saying each one will create thousands of construction jobs with only 800 being permanent.
19. Save Florida's VPK Program
Florida's Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) Program was approved in 2002 by voters, it began in 2005 and has served our children well by preparing them for school, it also helps the parents of these 4 year olds by allowing them to enter the workforce or to go to school.
It has created jobs and helped the economy. Now the Florida Legislature wants to slash funding for the program and increase the class sizes. This will hurt our children's education and go against the wishes of Florida's voters. Let's protect our children and their education.
20. FLORIDA GULF COAST UNIVERSITY PETITION FOR A TOBACCO-FREE INITIATIVE
We, the students, staff and faculty of Florida Gulf Coast University, care about our health and the health of those around us. Therefore, we support efforts to make Florida Gulf Coast University a tobacco-free campus.
We are aware of the dangers tobacco use poses on those who use it and those who are involuntarily exposed to it. These problems are completely avoidable. Secondhand smoke is a known killer and a hazard that we prefer to avoid while entering or leaving our campus buildings.
We view this educational institution as a place where knowledge is shared, discussed and integrated into our daily lives, a place that accepts scientific proof and adapts with it, as needed. Yet, our current campus tobacco policy seems at odds with nearly all of the current scientific knowledge about tobacco use.
21. Ban Plastic Bags in FL and U.S.A.
“Data released by the United States Environmental Protection Agency shows that somewhere between 500 billion and a trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide each year.”
-National Geographic News September 2, 2003
“Plastic bags account for over 10 percent of the debris washed up on the U.S. coastline.”
-National Marine Debris Monitoring Program
If just 1 out of 5 people in our country used a Bio bag we would save 1,330,560,000,000 bags over our life time.
A study in 1975, showed oceangoing vessels together dumped 8 million pounds of plastic annually. The real reason that the world's landfills weren't overflowing with plastic was because most of it ended up in an ocean-fill.
Ireland took the lead in Europe, taxing plastic bags in 2002 and have now reduced plastic bag consumption by 90%
- BBC News August 20, 2002
China will save 37 million barrels of oil each year due to their ban of free plastic bags
- CNN.com/asia January 9, 2008
Reducing plastic bags will decrease foreign oil dependency.
Bangladesh, China, Ireland, Rwanda, Israel, western India, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Taiwan, and Singapore have also banned or are moving toward banning the plastic bag.

22. We refuse to allow our children to attend Golden Gate HS
In 2002, legislation was passed that is now being used as an excuse to rezone properties that are currently zoned as the "A-rated" Gulf Coast High School into the substandard Title 1 "D,F and now C-rated" Golden Gate High School which has a proven historically via publicly-obtainable information to be a dangerous place for anyone due to gang activity, violence, crime, drugs, and a documented history of academic poor outcomes on a myriad of measures, also as published and obtainable.
Of course, the proven studies regarding student mobility, as well as the potential harm and detriment of such a rezoning to our children is not acceptable, as their futures, if not their very lives, are at stake.
We are petitioning below in order to protect our children from harm that is proposed to take place if this rezoning passes by whatever measures are necessary, including the following.
23. Property, Land, and Home Owners Against Rezoning of Gulf Coast HS to Golden Gate HS
In 2002, legislation was passed that is now being used as an excuse to rezone properties that are currently zoned as the "A-rated" Gulf Coast High School into the substandard Title 1 "D,F and now C-rated" Golden Gate High School which has a proven history via publically-obtainable information of being a dangerous place for anyone due to gang activity, violence, crime, drugs, and a documented history of poor outcomes with regards to academics on a myriad of measures, also as published and obtainable.
Of course, the harm and detriment of such a rezoning to our children is not acceptable, as their futures, if not their very lives, are at stake. But also, we realize that there are other important factors at stake. Whether we have children or not, as certainly many of us owning property, land, investment(s) and/or homes in the aforementioned areas do not have children at all, or have children not of the high school age, each and every one of us realizes the detrimental devaluation this proposed rezoning would cause, ultimately adding insult to injury in a world of economic hardship.
We, the people mentioned above, will be educating and passing along the knowledge of harm and loss with the goal of obtaining every aforementioned owner involved with this cause - the cause to rightfully sustain what we've chosen to purchase with our hard-earned dollars; and, not to have any party or parties infringe upon our rights to sustain the value of our dollars.
FREE KAMBIZ BARZINI - Free Him From Broward Transitional Center, Stop His Deportation Order, and Grant Him Asylum
Kambiz Barzini came from a land so different than what we know in the United States where corruption and destruction is apparent in everyday life, and where right and wrong does not align with the ideals we have in this country. Can you imagine having to find your own set of right and wrong, when the land that you live in has different priorities?
Despite the corruption, he was raised with solid ideals that align with those in our country today - freedom, family, education, and justice. Living in a hell on earth, as some people describe the Iranian Revolution, the Barzini family was able to escape. For several years, his family lived as refugees in Germany. He was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to come to the United States, to leave behind the lifestyle that we can not even begin to imagine - knowing that the United States is a land where all are given the opportunity to pursue the unalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Where else, but a better place, than the United States of America? He is an intelligent human being who speaks fluently, reads, and writes four languages. In the states, he was given the opportunity to continue his education, compete in wrestling at the collegiate level, and earn his bachelors degree. But this opportunity was taken away from him. For years, Kami abided by what he was told - having hopes to one day become a citizen. If not citizenship, his hope would be that he would be at least granted asylum in our country, knowing if he is forced to return to the country he escaped from, his punishment will be imprisonment, torture, and ultimately death.
Because of where Kami came from, how he was raised by his parents with the notion of right and wrong, and the challenges that his family endured, he has still learned to appreciate life. His appreciation for life extends not only to his life or the lives of his loved ones, but to all the people whose lives he has come in contact with. He has a genuine compassion and care for other people. He is dedicated to serving others and demands nothing in return. His ability to connect with people, to listen with his whole heart, and to offer wisdom when he can is why I admire Kami Barzini. He teaches others what it means to appreciate our eyelids - the things that are right in front of us that we do not even realize and often take for granted. His hope and trust in humanity remains even though he has been to hell and back. He believes that human beings are ultimately good and we are placed on this earth to help one another, because one day there will be a time when we need help ourselves.
He is now trapped, being held at Broward Transitional Center, fearing for his life and the decisions that may be made. We will not tolerate the deportation of our dear friend and loved one. He is an asset to the United States, not only as a talented athlete, coach, and trainer, but as a compassionate person and someone who stands up for others, and speaks the truth when determining right and wrong. The injustices and broken laws that exist in regards to the immigration system are keeping this young man from pursuing his dreams - from achieving a college education, from giving back to others as others have given to him, and from freely loving others as he as been loved.
25. Expedite the Execution of Daniel Burns
Daniel Burns was stopped by FHP Trooper Jeffery Dale Young, Aug 18th 1987, on interstate I-75 in Ellenton, Fl. Inside Daniel's cadillac was cocaine, he was confronted by the trooper. Daniel resisted and while fighting with the trooper he pulled the trooper's gun.
The trooper (pictured below), while pleading for his life, was shot in the face one time and died at the scene. There were witnesses to the incident. He was sentenced to the death penalty.

26. Additional Background Check for Realtors
Realtors are only given FBI background checks. First, local law enforcement does not always submit records to FBI, contrary to popular beliefs. Second, credit checks are not done on realtors so you can have a realtor who has over $10,000 in delinquent loans. Third, evictions are also not checked on realtors.
If a realtor doesn't have his/her financial house in order do you really expect them to do due diligence in selling or helping you purchase a home?
This petition to get the state to increase the background checks for all realtors including currently licensed realtors and if they fail his/her license is revoked.
Nick studios in florida closed in 2005 and ever since then all the old nick shows were taken off air. After that happened all the other nick studios started to take place of the old nick studios in Florida and what I've been reading on the internet every one wants the old nick shows back on
28. Reform the Florida Death Penalty
As evidenced by the case of Gary Eldon Alvord, the death penalty takes too long in the State of Florida, once an individual is found guilty. There should be a limit of 3 appeals per case and only if new evidence surfaces that could change the outcome of the case. This must be new physical or scientific evidence (dna) or witness materialization.
If there are 3 or more witnesses which results in a guilty verdict beyond all reasonable doubt, there should be NO appeals. These individuals should be moved to the front of the list and executed within a timely manner. These individuals cannot be re-habilitated. The families of their victims demand and deserve restitution.
The problem with funding in Florida schools is evident- our schools are closing, classrooms are overcrowded, magnet programs are closing, our teachers are underpaid, and every passing week it seems to grow worse.
I feel that you simply cannot put a price on the quality of our children’s education. At my old High School they are closing down magnet programs, as well as in the Middle School. I know that transportation has been cut back on as well, and they are harshly limiting the areas where they offer transportation for students who have no other way of getting to school. Why must a child who is as equally gifted to another not have the same opportunities as one whose parents can afford to pay for a bus?
Other states understand the importance of quality education for our children (they ARE the future) and place much more emphasis on funding for Education- California raised $4 billion taxing cigarettes, all of it marked for early childhood health and education programs. As a result, Los Angeles County received $600 million to create universal preschool for all 153,000 4-year-olds in Los Angeles County. Arkansas raises about $14 million dollars a year taxing 3% (15-18 cents) on every six pack of beer.
30. Forgiveness of Non-Violent Crimes
I was charged with a felony in 1999. Now almost a decade later I am having to pay for my mistakes. I went to school and became a Legal Secretary and now I am enrolled in College for Criminal Justice.
I know that I can not think about Law school anywhere in the future because my record will only let me take steps back and not forward. We need to send a message to the judicial system who is sometimes very wrong, that we the people must take our lives back.
I need you to help me by signing this petition and we can help each other. How do they think we can survive if we can't even apply for the higher paying jobs. Out of all the sins America and our Courts systems has made they should have the biggest Felony in the Book. This is a recipe for disaster. Please Help.
