391. Establish a Science Resource Center at Edith Cowan University-School of Education
Establish a Science Resource Center that for a fee makes available resources for science lessons for Graduate Teachers to access once employed.
392. RE-INTRODUCE RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IN OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Religious Education (from here on referred to as RE) plays a significant role in molding the lives of our youth today. From the teachings received during RE sessions, youths will be assured of good moral, ethical and spiritual teaching. This will go along way in curbing the wrong doings that are evident in our country due to the behavioral pattern of our children. To withhold RE from our youth, is to allow the devil into our schools. Having heard counsel, and received instruction, our children and youth will be made wise for their future state according to Proverbs 19:20.
Change in our society will not come tomorrow, but one thing we know for sure, it will come in the future if we target the young. Religious Education needs an urgent re-introduction in our schools, for if we forget God, our nation is doomed.

393. College Loans are Worthy of Forgiveness
Many students who are not financially able to pay for college are forced to take out loans. Many of these loans for college are a last resort. To avoid having a balance, most students take out loans only after financial aid has covered a mere portion of their education. Because of this, many college students fall into debt. Many will owe at least $15,000 by the time they graduate. To avoid this kind of debt, some students will drop out or avoid college altogether. This dilemma that many college students face is very disheartening.
In a country where education is prioritized, debt is not the way to keep students motivated. Subsequently, there may be less college graduates in the future.
394. "No" to Mississippi Education Budget Cut
Mississippi is voting to cut the education budget by $16 million. As we are number number one in illiteracy, highschool drop-outs and teen pregnancy in the country, how can the government consider trying to cut education?
The State Superintendent of Education, Dr. Henry Johnson states "In order to move Mississippi forward, education must be our first priortity. Today's children are the workforce and leaders of tomorrow."
395. Protect Society--Teach gender roles at school!
Society today is weakened by the lack of gender roles. We must start teaching our children these roles. We must show girls that a woman's main role is keeper at home--a homemaker, and the man is the breadwinner.
I am calling for three things:
1. Universal Home Economics class--as a required course for high school and middle school for girls.
2. More strict dress codes at school--Thighs must be covered, and girls must wear skirts or dresses.
3. Gender-segregated physical education classes--to preserve the modesty of our children.
These things need to happen. We must create a strong future for America. We must reinstate these gender roles to make sure America does not continue to fail.
396. KEEP THE VISUAL ARTS ALIVE AT JHS 50
For decades JHS 50 had an Art Program. It has been an important part that strengthens learning across the curriculum. The new arrived principal is threatening to cancel the program disregarding the importance of the Arts in the student's education.
We believe that Art matters, not only as worthwhile experience in its own right, but also as an instrument of cognitive growth and development and as an agent of motivation for school success. We are working against the decision to eliminate the Visual Arts program at John D. Wells JHS 50 at Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY.
397. Doctoral Students in the College of Education

Survey, correlation, and experimental research methods and practices.
Due to inclement weather the amount of school days in our present year has been greatly delined. The only people who suffer is the children for their lack of education. This petition will be put forward to extend the school year.

401. Gifted Education Fundig on SB744 Enrolled (Illinois)
Petition to Governor Blagojevich asking for Gifted Education funding in Illinois.
402. No Increase In University Fees in UK!
The government's plans for the future of higher education in England involves, for full-time undergraduates, likely fees of £3,000 a year.
403. Shorten Secondary School Hours in the UK
The children of the UK are being deprived of so many important thing in life:
. Lesuire Time- As so as they arrrive home from school many have some homework they have little time for themselves, to socialise, hobbies or just play out with friends and those who do don't get the vital work done.
. Sleep- This may sound silly but with the most kids stilling up till at least midnight and having to wake up at 7 a.m they are not getting the sleep required to be alert and focused in school. this results in them not getting the education they deserved.
So what i'm proposing is that the Government cuts school hours down so all secondary schools would start at 9 a.m and finish at 3.15 p.m with a 20 minute break and 50 minute lunch.
404. Centerlink Disgrace!
What kind of a government pays it's unemployed more to stay home than it does students to further themselves? Why the Federal Government of course! If you are a current, past or even future student considering tertiary education and you too feel that it is insulting that the Government is paying Dole-bludgers more than students, please fill in the petition.
Letters will be sent to the Minister for Education and various other Government bodies, both state and Federal. One person can't convince the Government that they're screwed. But several can. If you have any questions or comments regarding this topic, please email me. vmclean2003@yahoo.com.au
405. Keep Professor Binta Colley on Faculty
As of Fall 2003 semester, Professor Binta Colley, a fine and outstanding professor of philosophy, education and other related courses faces the possibility of losing her job.
In our education system today, we cannot afford to lose professors with exceptional teaching skills because they are devoted to helping their students gain great knowledge and love for the subject they are embarking.
Professor Binta Colley is one of the most outstanding student-oriented teacher York College or America has today and unfortunately, she was informed that she could be out of a job base on how she teaches and grades the students.
I had the opportunity of taking one of her philosophy classes, and it is unlike any other class that I have taken before. Not only does she use the Socratic method of teaching, but she promotes critical thinking in all areas and also provokes exceptional learning and application out of all her students. No student is left behind. If for any reason a student is experiencing difficulties in any area, Professor Colley is available by phone, office hours, virtual classroom, and email to assist each student in all areas. If by chance she is unable to help you, then professor Colley directs you to the appropriate place.
Great teachers in all areas and levels of teaching should be cherished, appreciated and awarded. If any thing should be done to her, an award should be handed to her. LET US PROTECT OUR HARD WORKING PROFESSORS. KEEP PROFESSOR BINTA COLLEY ON BOARD ACTIVELY!!!
406. Univ of ALABAMA Graphic Design Dept. Funding Request
The University of Alabama's Graphic Design Program is in need of both software and hardware upgrades. We are currently running Mac OS 9.2, Photoshop 6.0, and QuarkXPress 4.1, to name a few, all of which are now outdated. The iMacs in our lab are unable to support the required upgrade to Mac OS X that is needed to run the new versions of these programs.
In order to keep our programs up-to-date, we need to purchase both new computers and current software. We are requesting the funds to ensure the quality of our students' education.
407. No Confidence in the PA SSHE System Administration!
This petition is an opportunity for the students of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania to express their feelings of 'No Confidence' in the administration currently running the State System of Higher Education of Pennsylvania.
408. P.E., Health and Drivers Ed. Petition
We as health and physical education teachers are in need of a new department chair. In the past, we have had someone to represent us in the district office to answere questions, set up pdd days, organization of new ideas and activties, helping to set up new curriculums, implementing new technology in the classroom and a leader who is there to direct and organize our initiatives. This past year, our past head of the department, Linda Cowart, has resigned. We need to fill this position as soon as possible if we want to contiue moving forward in our profession.
409. Remove Asst. Principal Radcliff from his job NOW

He has also in the past been accused by students of inappropriate behavior during his tenure at MBHS as Assistant Principal. If you believe that he needs to be removed from his job please sign this petition.
410. Right to display Confederate Flag
According to the school officals, there was a fight between the "Black Panthers" and the "Red Necks" six yrs ago at a local high school. This fight was apparently over a Confederate Flag displayed by the "Red Necks" and the display of Malcom X material. Due to this fight, all confederate flags (jewelry, belt buckle, hats, bumper stickers, etc...) have been banned.
411. Abolish Miseducation
The white supremacist intellectual John Campbell, in his 1851 refutation, Negro-Mania: Being An Examination of the Falsely Assumed Equality of the Various Races of Man, rather hysterically agreed. "I take it for granted that no dark race of man has ever been equal to the white race." Indeed, insisted Campbell, "never at any given time from the most infinitely remote antiquity until now, has there ever appeared a race of negroes, that is men with woolly heads, flat noses, thick and protruding lips, who has ever emerged from a state of savageism or barbarism, to even demi civilization."
Real scholarship could not uphold that fiction and a few courageous European scholars broke ranks with the conspiracy of fabrication and acknowledged the historical realities. Constantin de Volney, a French scholar who visited Egypt between 1783-1785, remarked that the "ancient Egyptians were true Negroes of the same type as all native-born Africans. ... Just think that this race of black men, today our slave and the object of our scorn, is the very same race to which we owe our arts, sciences and even the use of speech!"
412. Petition SC-21: Teaching students in Drivers education classes how to drive a manual transmission.

413. CHANGE IN START TIME FOR SEAHOLM HIGH SCHOOL IN BIRMINGHAM MICHIGAN
ALL PARENTS RECEIVED A PACKET OF INFORMATION REGARDING THE NEW FALL SCHEDULE. THE INFORMATION INDICATED, IN BOLD LETTERS, THAT THERE WOULD BE A CHANGE IN THE STARTING TIME FOR THE AUSTIC PROGRAM AT SEAHOLM HIGH SCHOOL IN BIRMINGHAM, MICHIGAN. CURRENTLY, THE STARTING TIMES ARE MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY FROM 7:25 A.M. TO 2:40 P.M. IN THE FALL OF THE YEAR, THE STARTING TIME FOR TUESDAY AND THRUSDAY WILL BE 9:05 A.M. TO 2:40 P.M. THE STARTING TIMES FOR MONDAY, WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY WILL REMAIN THE SAME. THE PARENTS WERE NOT CONTACTED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY OF THE PLANNING OR TO OFFER ANY SUGGESTIONS REGARDING THE CHANGE IN THE TIME. THESE CHILDREN CANNOT BE LEFT AT HOME ALONE, THAT IS WHY THEY ARE IN SPECIAL EDUCATION -- THEY ALL HAVE SPECIFIC NEEDS. MANY OF THE PARENTS ARE WORKING PARENTS AND THE 9:00 STARTING TIME WOULD BE AN INCONVIENCE FOR MOST PARENTS.
414. Drinking and Driving Education in Texas
The first place to start regarding increased knowledge and education of drinking and driving as a problem with significant consequences rests before the college years. Middle school and high school administrations only minimally touch the surface in educating young children. For example, Students against Drunk Driving (SADD) is an organization in which students join and sign a written contract stating that no matter the circumstance, he/she will phone home for a ride rather than drive, if intoxicated. It has been argued by parents and educators that such types of organizations essentially promote underage drinking. However, the fact of the matter is that the contemporary mentality among many school age children is that drinking is cool and getting behind the wheel after having a drink can inevitably be observed across the country. Thus, organizations such as SADD serve as accident prevention rather than drinking promotion.
A severe limitation of such programs is that they are optional. SADD is an extra-curricular club that students may opt to join. Having compulsory meeting times in which social issues such as drinking and driving are addressed can help increase awareness among school age children and better prepare them for responsible decision making in college. Additionally, a student petition by students at the University of Texas-Austin would aid in alerting school officials of the need for greater education in middle and high school age children, in preparation for college and its increased liberties.
415. Stop the proposed demolition of Queen Mary's College, Chennai
It has recently come to our attention that the Government of TamilNadu is proposing to demolish the buildings housing Queen Mary's College, Chennai. We are alarmed at this possible action.
"There is nothing that solidifies and strengthens a Nation like reading the Nation's history, whether that History is recorded in books or embodied in customs, institutions and monuments" (J.Anderson)
The Queen Mary's College, Chennai is both an institution and a monument. Set up in 1914, it was the first women's college in Chennai and the second in the South. A rich educational tradition and the experience of
a long history define the institution that is Queen Mary's College. Several of the college buildings including Pentland House (1915), Stone House (1918) and Jeypore House (1921) are vintage monuments and have
been declared as heritage buildings by the Heritage Committee of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority. This educational institution with its striking architecture has been one of the proud
landmarks of Chennai, helping define and continuing to contribute to the personality of the city. It is soon to celebrate its centenary in befitting manner.
Many of the buildings have been recently renovated and equipped with modern facilities with the help of a grant from the Department of Education. An effort by the alumnae has been underway to raise contributions to the 'building fund' set up to restore earlier buildings requiring more extensive repair and reconstruction. Plans
have been drawn for proposed improvements and are currently in the implementation stage.
It is therefore with great shock and dismay that we recently learnt of the plans of the Government to pull down this prestigious college and replace it with a Secretariat building.
Queen Mary's College is located on the Marina in an atmosphere conducive to learning, and offers education of the highest standard to more than 4000 students. The College is rooted in a strong sense of
responsibility to its surrounding community. It is committed to providing educational opportunities for students from less-privileged backgrounds to realize their potential. Today, most of the students
hail from lower middle class and labour class families, many of them first generation students. The 25 degree courses offered are a constantly evolving mix of the traditional and the unorthodox, tailored
to meet the unique needs of the community it serves. Always a pioneer in educational circles, Queen Mary's College has been the one of first to offer rare courses including physical education, three Home Science
Degrees, Tourism and Travel Management, Music and Functional English.
One of the best ways to preserve a country's heritage and pay tribute to its history is to maintain and restore ancient buildings, to retain a legacy for future generations to understand the country's great and
glorious cultural richness. We fear that the Government's proposed move to demolish Queen Mary's College lacks vision in this regard. The move will only serve to erode social, and educational values that have been
built over decades and deprive deserving lower middle class female students of an immensely valuable college education that uplifts and empowers.
416. Support Magnet School in Sumner Co, TN
On March 18, 2003, some members of the Sumner County Board of Education showed a willingness to cut new programs in order to maintain employee salaries and benefits should local revenues fall short of needs. One of these targeted programs was the Merrol N. Hyde Magnet School, scheduled to open in the Fall of 2003. A drawing has already been conducted to select the magnet school students and these selected students were requested to sign a form of intent to attend the magnet school in lieu of their normally zoned school.
This petition is part of a grass-roots effort by concerned citizens of Sumner County to convince the Board that discontinuing plans for the magnet school at this time are an unacceptable risk to those already slated to attend, as well as to the community at large based on the impact to future economic development should the magnet school be delayed.
417. Provide an able autistic unit attached to a mainstream middle school in Kidderminster

418. We don't want Western high school
The Allegany County Board of Education wants to combine Westmar high and Beall high into Western high. We do not want this done!!
419. Allow Jesse McGowan to the 2003 Prom
Jesse McGowan has been attending Lakeland Regional High School for three consecutive years on good standing. Recently, Jesse was in a situation of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and consequently was asked to sign out of school in the middle of his senior year. As the school year progresses and we narrow down the days until graduation, Jesse is aware of all the student activities he will not be involved in, but it is his our plea that he be allowed to attend the 2003 Lakeland Regional High School Prom.
420. To promote tortoise education and humane treatment
I am looking for pet stores large (petsmart) and small to promote proper turtle/tortoise education. People are not given proper education when purchasing a tortoise or turtle. For instance I was told my tortoise could be kept in a large card board box and that since he was from Russia he could withstand a wide range of climates and did not need a basking light or uva uvb bulbs. I was also told to feed him canned dog food once a week!!! I was told when i was looking into purchasing a box eastern box turtle that all i had to feed him was lettuce and that he needed a hald aquatic hald terrestrial environment and that they do swim. I want to promote education for buyers so these wonderful noble creatures can reach their true lifespans. thanks- jen
