1. Safe and Civilised roads for New Zealand
We are resolved to remove hardcore impaired drivers from New Zealand’s roads. These individuals typically:
Drive with a high blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .15 or above (almost twice the legal New Zealand limit);
Do so repeatedly, as demonstrated by having more than one drunk driving arrest, and
Are highly resistant to changing their behaviour despite previous sanctions, treatment, or education efforts.
While hardcore offenders constitute a relatively small number of drivers, they account for a disproportionately large share of drunk driving problems. For example, it is estimated that while drivers with BACs in excess of .15 are only 1% of all drivers on weekend nights, they are involved in nearly 50% of all fatal crashes at that time.
Hardcore drunk drivers do not consume alcohol in moderation and they show no respect for the limits of the law. To reach a BAC of .15, a man weighing 80 kilos (176 pounds) would have to consume approximately seven drinks in one hour.
Research also has found that, compared to all drivers, hardcore offenders often are more aggressive, hostile, and thrill-seeking. Hardcore drunk drivers are also irresponsible, reckless, and abnormal in their drinking patterns and subsequent behaviour on the road. They tend to have much higher rates of alcoholism and alcohol-related problems, and are more likely to have a criminal record, to use drugs, and to have poor driving records. The New Zealand Police have recently commented on the increasing "casualness" of attitude of repeat offenders. In other words, they do not care.
The proposed changes are Cross Roads policy. Cross Roads is a Sensible Sentencing Trust initiative.
2. The Promise
By signing this petition, you are saying that you will never drive drunk, that you will call a taxi or hand over your keys to a designated driver.
Please help fight this battle of losing the people that we love to careless actions.
3. No to Drink Driving Petition
This petition is to try and make the English government change their laws and make harsher punishments and jail sentences for people who drink and drive or drug drive and injure or kill an innocent person.
Whether your from the UK or not, PLEASE help bring justice to all the families who feel cheated because they have lost loved ones. If you had a friend or family member killed you'd want some sort of justice wouldn't you?
PLEASE sign this and get idiots who think it's clever to be drunk behind the wheel to stay sober behind bars.
4. Do Not Release Hit and Run Drunk Driver, Colin Anderson
On May 19, 2002, while driving with a blood alcohol level well over the legal limit for New York State, Colin Anderson struck and killed Andrea Rizzo, a compassionate and exuberant 24 year old Special Education Teacher and childhood cancer survivor.
He then fled the scene leaving Andrea dead on the Cross Bronx Expressway. He was chased and stopped by good samaritans.
5. CALL FOR RESIGNATION OF LOS ANGELES SHERIFF LEE BACA
As an active promoter of drunk driving prevention, which is a serious problem that kills tens of thousands of people each year, I am outraged that Sheriff Lee Baca completely disregarded a judge's order and let Paris Hilton out of jail after serving only a few days of her sentence.
The special treatment celebrities receive in our legal system is unbelievable and there needs to be some accountability for this. The pattern needs to stop. Please join me in calling for the resignation of Sheriff Lee Baca. He is an elected official and is responsible to uphold the law for us, the people whom pay for his salary with our tax dollars, and has failed miserably to do in this case.
Thank you,
Lynn Carey Saylor

6. Lower the Drinking Age In America
March 24, 2006
Should the drinking age should be lowered in the United States of America?
I am not against the drinking age so that teens everywhere can drink constantly at age 18 but I do believe there is something seriously wrong with setting such a high drinking age in the USA, much higher than other countries.
In america we deserve something more than that. Today, unlike 25 years ago, many more rules and regulations are in effect against drunk driving and public drunkeness to protect everyone against the same thing that Mothers Against Drunk driving created the minimum drinking age act for.
I'm sure it wouldn't have the catastrophic effect that MADD portrays will happen if we let the drinking age stand at 18 or 19 years of age.
I am currently 17 years old and i know many many underaged kids that currently get into car accidents, die or are severely injured by teen drunk driving because the age is sooo high they binge drink, and try to drink their lives away just because they cant. It's caused numerous accidents and fatalities.
America needs a drinking age of 18 or 19 because there is no reason to wait until 21. The logic that madd gives is unreasonable.
Please if you feel strongly about this issue the same way I do then sign the petition.
7. Lower the drinking age in the United States
Time and Time again, there are always debates about people being a certain age to carry on in certain activities. One activity that has had the most debate is the legal drinking age in the United States of America. Between the 60's and 70's when America was at war, this issue came about. It came about because at this time, the Governent decided that 18 was the legal age to vote and make educated decisions about people's political future, as well as fighting in wars. Since the question "I am at a legal age to vote and protect my country, why can't I drink?" came about, the Government decided to lower the drinking age to 19.
Over the years, there have been many irresponsible acts of binge drinking, and drunk driving done by many young people, this is in turn enticed the Government to raise the age to 21. I'm petitioning this issue because I feel that it would be fair for people 18, who are considered adults, and over to be able to have access to alcoholic beverages. There are many places in the world like Jamaica, and China who don't have a legal drinking age, and they don't seem to have a predominace of issues like drunk driving etc. I feel that it would be beneficial socially if people who are 18 are allowed to drink.
