126. School Dress Code Reform for Shelby County

This petition implores the school board members of the Shelby County School System to take a closer look at their current dress code policy, to examine its subjectivity and unreasonable punishments.
127. Death of Lance Corporal Nitin (Nathan) Sarangapani, USMC
January 21, 2006
Lance Corporal Nitin (Nathan) Sarangapani, USMC was brutally murdered on his 24th birthday in Houston, Texas, in the early hours of September 25th, 2005.
According to the police investigators, he was fatally shot by the father of the girl he had been seeing for a couple of months.
The details are still sketchy, but from what we know, Nathan was celebrating his 24th birthday at a friend's place. Around 12 midnight, he went to drop off the girl at her home. It seems that about 30 to 40 minutes later Nathan and the girl's father had some conversations over the phone and Nathan went back to their house. The father of the girl shot Nathan, about 30 feet away from the front door and near the street.
The suspect is claiming self-defense and that he was afraid of Nathan. Nathan was totally unarmed. The suspect claims he was afraid of Nathan. If that were the case, why would he risk opening the front door to face a potential threat? Did he know Nathan was alone? He claims he had called 911 first. The question then comes up is why he did not wait for authorities to handle the matter? There are still many other questions.
He also claims that he had never met Nathan before, but we know for a fact that Nathan had been to their home many times to pick up and drop off his friend and was even had lunch or dinner. In typical Indian families, it is very strange that a father would be unaware or not know of a young man his daughter was seeing.
While the police have not yet provided the family with all the details, we have the utmost confidence in their expertise and faith in them. Upon questioning, the police advised the family that the process involved an investigation. Upon the completion of the investigation, the case would be submitted to the District Attorney, who in turn would submit it to the Grand Jury. The Grand Jury would then either indict or No-bill the assailant.
Harris County Police Department is currently working on the case, but the facts are that the department and the DA's office are overwhelmed. We just want to make sure that Nitin's case gets the attention it deserves and the case doesn't fall through the cracks and become one of those statistics.
All we are asking is that this matter be examined very carefully so that justice will be served.
128. Expose False Child Abuse Reporting
The Hennepin County Juvenile court prosecutes so many false child Abuse cases that it is damaging families unnecessarily. I think that a class action suit should be filed against them for defamation of Character and Slander.
The courts take the word of a child mad at the time at their parent or guardian and file a report that goes to the police. Whether the police drop the case or not the Hennepin County prosecuter still gets a copy and files a suit on a dropped case. This means the innocent person then has to do some form of restitution for something that should never has been tried in the first place, and ends up with a record they don't deserve. They are faced with background checks and the inability to obtain decent jobs to provide a decent standard of lifestyle to children that are no longer angry.
The problem still remains that the child needs to get disciplined so they won't end up a menance to society but this is not taken into account when that same child that lied in the first place is stealing or vandalizing or some other horrific crime that could have been prevented before the right to discipline a child was taken away from their parent.
129. Change Pine Crest Sub-Division Zoning
Pine Crest subdivision is zoned agricultural and is a prominent neghborhood.
130. Stop the Rodeo in Martin County!
This petition is being started due to the public outcry of inhumane treatment to animals. The following letter aims to stop the rodeo in Martin County.
Robert L. Crowder. Sheriff
Martin County Office of Sheriff
800 SE Monterey Road
Stuart, Florida 34994
September 10, 2005
Dear Sheriff Crowder,
We are the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of the Treasure Coast. As such, we are dismayed to learn the office of sheriff is sponsoring a harsh, cruel event which inflicts pain on animals. The forthcoming rodeo fund raiser for the Florida Sheriff Youth Ranches is unacceptable and out of character to all the positive things you have done for animals in this community. Our organization is getting complaints about this on a daily basis. It would be an understatement to state that many people are very upset.
Rodeo attractions including tight straps about the abdomen and genitals of horses to make them "buck", the use of electric prods with electric currents to get the horses and cattle running, chasing and roping/tying of cattle and young calves are just a few of the cruel, painful events instilled on these victimized animals.
Encouraging inhumane episodes, especially in full view of children, is contradictory to our mission of kindness and compassion for all creatures. It is especially disturbing since many animal organizations here have worked together with your office to prohibit inhumane acts on animals in Martin County.
Martin County Animal Control Division protects the community against cruelty to animals, while Martin County Sheriff Department promotes it.

In most states there is only a 48 hour hold on the offender who commits domestic violence. The victim/s need more time to get their safety in order for themselves and their children.

This petition is to show Livingston County and the State of Michigan that the residents within the above stated area do not want a speed limit that high. We would petetion to have the speed limit no higher than 35mph and 25mph around the curves.

The team must share the gym with the basketball teams, volleyball teams and the baseball team. The team consists of at least 25 children during the regular season.
There is also the feeder program that has been gaining poularity in the last few years as wrestling becomes more popular in the state for competion sports. we currently have around 40 children enrolled in this program.
141. Keep Texas' Ten Commandments
Texas' capitol building grounds in Austin has a monument depicting the Ten Commandments on it -- on public property.
The Supreme Court will "rule" whether or not this is legal or not (more than likely, if Alabama & Roy Moore are a reminder, it will be "illegal"), so I've come up with an idea: students and concerned citizens who cherish our republican form of government who live in and around Ellis County, Texas (Waxahachie-county seat) must band together to fight for our U.S. Constitutional rights of free speech and the free exercise thereof.
There is nothing in the U.S. Constitution that prohibits a state from displaying a Ten Commandments monument, just as there is not a restriction barring construction workers from having portable bathrooms in public.
This petition serves as a voice for those who believe that this is a free speech issue.
142. Ban School Uniforms in Yazoo County Schools
February 22, 2005
85% of parents with children enrolled in the Yazoo county School systems voted against the rule that all children attending Yazoo County schools must wear school uniforms to school next year.
Most parents in Yazoo County are either poor or middle class and the expense of uniforms when they usually have to buy either off-brand clothes or second-hand clothes is just too much. Sending our children on field trips is expensive enough as it is when you have a hard enough time buying groceries and neccessities. Now the school board wants to add the extra expense of uniforms. The teachers voted 55% for uniforms. If the parents' votes were higher (85%), why did the school board vote to use uniforms against the parents' wishes? The children themselves will feel like just a number to the teachers with no individuality.
A child's clothing is an expression of his/her personality. I will not send my children to a school that infringes on their rights and the parents' pocket books with total disregard for the parent and child's feelings in this matter.
143. Waller County Flooding Issue
Stop the flooding in the vacinity of House and Peach Ridge Roads.
A 291-Unit Trailer Park is being imposed on the Huntington Township community of Adams County, Pennsylvania. The developer (Robert Mumma/Caco Three)has a very negative business track -- bankruptcy, neglecting properties, and frivolous lawsuits -- but has made large political contributions and has ample financial resources.
A grassroots effort by concerned citizens is working to stop this development from harming this community, and setting a dangerous precedent for other such areas. This scenic, rural area is known for it's historical significance (Gettysburg Battle), safe and peaceful communities, and farmland.
The negative effects of the development include higher taxes, environmental harm, overcrowded schools, safety and security problems, dangerous traffic congestion, and destruction of the natural beauty of this area.
145. Stop hunting on the Rhodes property.

There are houses and children all boarding the Rhodes property. The use of guns in this area is a danger to everyone in it.
146. School naming - Dr. Jesse Hall.
To Washoe County School District - Board of Education: The following individuals are requesting that you name the next school for an individual who has spent more that 35 years of service to this school district, Dr. Jesse Hall.

147. Prevent the construction of a campground at Horsetooth Reservoir
The Larimer County Parks and Lands department is planning to build a campground at the north end of Horsetooth Reservoir near Bellvue, Colorado. The campground threatens the safety of people, wildlife and native wetlands.
The Parks department's sole concern is revenue generation. Please help us stop this proposal in its infancy.
148. Local Volunteer Firefighters Should Carry Their Gear
A Community Member Petition.
149. Road Maintenance of Central Rd.
The residents of Central Rd., south of Round Up Way in Apple Valley, were given the opportunity to self-maintain this portion of Central Rd. Twenty years ago (for the purpose of reducing their property taxes). Now with the changes of residents over the years, it has become a hardship for everyone to maintain the road. Now we are asking the County to list it as a, "County maintained road."
150. Straighten Lucasville Road
This petition is for the purpose of establishing the straightening of the dangerous "S curve" on Lucasville Road and constructing a proper left turn lane into Allegro Drive when travelling Northbound on Lucasville Road, as a priority transportation project in Prince William County, Virginia, and providing for its immediate funding.
The dangerous "S curve" is located adjacent to the intersection of Lucasville Road and Allegro Drive, at the entrance to the Mayfair subdivision. The petition has been slightly modified based upon new information that was discovered at the Prince William County Planning Commission hearing on October 20, 2004.
