66. Support Accountability in Cancer Research
Do you know someone who has died or is dying from cancer? Many, too many… one every 5 seconds, dies prematurely from cancer in the world (six million per year), more than any war or disease.
Did you know that cancer costs have now reached $741 billion per year in the 38 most industrialized countries in the world, or about $750 per year per person? And yet, even with the 100 times cost increase over the past 50 years, there has been no significant reduction in the cancer death rate (a mere 5% for cancer, while for heart disease the reduction is 64%).
Worst of all researchers and decision makers are not being held accountable by providing the public with at least an estimate of the projected reduction of the cancer death rate from their project before they are assigned money from tax payers or charitable contributions.
The need for change in the direction of cancer research is evident from the fact that countries that do not make such huge investments have similar death rates. This demonstrates that most of your money is being thrown out the window.
Let’s do our part to let them know that we are very concerned about this lack of progress.

I am a UK citizen who is outraged about the fact Barack Obama will not consider giving Michael Jackson His Legacy title.
Even though 1993 was a tough time for Michael after the Chandler made false allegations about Michael i do believe the innocence from children is exceptional, and is solely and purely seen by alot of people and Michael loved these attributes gave "he loves the innocence in their playful smiles and wanted to bring healing in to this harsh and awful world we live in" Yet people still try to deceive their way in to Michael's Life and even in his death trying to claim the rights to something that they have no right to - Michael's property, dignity, pride, innocence, love and pure soul of which they had eventually destroyed a very gentle man.
In 2005 the same happened again only this time Michael was given the best gift any person could give him - Freedom from all haters and Bullshiters (tabloids) and found himself cleared of all charges despite a 40 years within the entertainment industry, and his good works as a fabulous humanitarian, Michael is still being betrayed and he should not have to endure such filth and ignorance from his fellow country men and people from all over the world too.
68. Support National Childhood Illness Awareness Month
I have noticed that we have a black history month, breast cancer month, AIDS awareness month, etc etc. But I have not noticed anything to raise awareness for life threatening childhood illnesses.
We need to raise awareness Nationally to effectively fight and find cures for these illnesses
It seems we have failed our children as Americans. Our children are right now fighting painful illnesses while our president has had a beer summit! We owe it to our children to at the very least support legislation for a month in support of childhood illness awareness.
69. No to the South Yorkshire Incinerator
The Bansley Doncaster Rotherham Waste Partnership has successfully secured £77.4 million of Private Finance Initiative (PFI) funding from the Government to plan for the treatment of leftover waste. Their plans are to build a super incinerator.
There are many concerns in connection with the incinerator: health risks, increase in traffic and pollution from it, congestion on the roads; incinerator is an eye sore, it may negatively affect house prices and it undermines commitments to reduce, reuse, recycle.
According to the British Society for Ecological Medicine, Incinerator emissions are a major source of particulates, of toxic metals, carcinogens, mutagens, and hormone disrupters.
Not all emissions can be filtered out, particulates will be thrown out into the atmosphere and fall out on to residential areas, schools, farms, ecosystems. Studies have also shown that incinerator emissions cause an increase in the rate of cancer, asthma, heart disease and overall mortality. Pollutants can travel great distances some sources say over 25 miles. Private companies that will be running the incinerator will be making money at the expense of public health and the environment.

Dihydrogen monoxide (DHMO) is colourless, odourless, tasteless, and kills uncounted thousands of people every year. Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide do not end there.
Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination, and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death.
Dihydrogen monoxide is the major component of acid rain. It contributes to both the “greenhouse effect” and the erosion of our natural landscape, and may cause severe burns. DHMO accelerates the corrosion and rusting of many metals, may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes, and has been found in excised tumours of terminal cancer patients.
Contamination is reaching epidemic proportions! Quantities of dihydrogen monoxide have been found in almost every stream, lake, and reservoir in Australia today. But the pollution is global, and the contaminant has even been found in Antarctic ice. DHMO has caused millions of dollars of property damage all over the country.
In spite of the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used in the production of nuclear power, the manufacture of Styrofoam, and the distribution of pesticides. Even after washing, produce still remains contaminated by this chemical. Dihydrogen monoxide is also used as a fire retardant, and as an industrial solvent and coolant. It is used in many cruel forms of animal research, and has often been taken by athletes to improve their performance. DHMO can also be used as a food additive, and is frequently found in junk food. It even has a tendency to accumulate in dairy products.
Dihydrogen monoxide is found in all municipal water supplies, and there is no filter on the market that is able to remove this hazardous substance from our drinking water. Companies dump waste DHMO into rivers and the ocean, and nothing can be done to stop them because this practice is still legal. The impact on wildlife is extreme, and we cannot afford to ignore it any longer! This horror MUST be stopped!
Despite strong evidence linking DHMO ingestion with cancer, the Australian Government has refused to ban the production, distribution, or use of this damaging chemical due to its supposed “importance to the economic health of the nation.” In fact, the navy and other military organizations are conducting experiments with DHMO, and designing multi-billion dollar devices to control and utilize it during warfare situations. Hundreds of military research facilities receive tons of it through a highly sophisticated underground distribution network. Many store large quantities for later use.
It’s not too late to put an end to the use of DHMO in Australia. By signing this petition, you can help to secure the health and safety of all Australians in the future.
72. Cervical Smear Campaign to test under 25 women if requested
Cervical smear test is used to look for changes in cervical cells and to identify whether further investigation is required. Depending on the degree of abnormality identified, women are asked to have a repeat smear after six or 12 months, or may be referred for a further test to identify the cause of the abnormality identified by screening.
Under the NHS Cervical Screening Program, all women between the ages of 25 and 49 are eligible for a free cervical smear test every three years, and women between the ages of 50 and 64 are eligible for a free test every five years.
The smear test is not routinely available to women aged under 25. Cervical cancer is rare in women under the age of 20; teenagers’ bodies, particularly the cervix, are still developing, which means young women may get an abnormal smear result when there is nothing wrong. This could lead to unnecessary treatment, so screening young women might do more harm than good.
Between the ages of 20 and 25, invasive cancer is still rare but changes in the cervix are common. Although treating lesions in very young women may prevent cancers from developing many years later, the evidence suggests that screening is best started at the age of 25. Lesions that are destined to progress will still be screen-detectable and those that would regress will no longer be a source of anxiety. This means that younger women will not have to undergo unnecessary investigations and treatments.
Any woman under 25 who is concerned about her risk of developing cervical cancer, or her sexual health generally, should contact her GP or Genito-Urinary

74. Exposure to TCE and other VOCs at MCAS El Toro
Purpose of this petition is request the Navy's Public Health Center to evaluate the risks of occupational exposure to TCE and other contaminants at MCAS El Toro, including the El Toro Marine Corps School (ETMS) and to perform a chromosome breakage test (blood test) to confirm radiation exposure.
75. Bring back the Cervical Cancer Vaccination
In the budget for 2009 the funds for the cervical cancer vaccination for 12 year old girls have been removed. If parents are to pay for the vaccination it will cost in the region of 600 euro which many cannot afford.
It is understandable that some things may need to lose funds but this could be a life saving vaccination. We all know people that suffer from the disease... how do you feel about the fact that our Government has decided not to help prevent it.
Cervical cancer is also known as the silent killer!

Following Eastbourne Borough Councils’ shock decision to turn down plans to rebuild the hospice on the existing site in Mill Gap Road, we have decided to look for an alternative site and are launching the SOS or Support our Search campaign to enlist the community’s help.
78. Breast cancer gene should not be patentable
With biotechnology unclear and complex, large multinational companies are able to claim Patents to the very essence of human life, the Human genome, and have their claims enforceable in the courts.
A good example of such abuse is a recent case where a "biotechnology company Genetic Technologies has announced it will enforce its patent rights over tests for two genetic mutations, BRCA1 and BRCA2, which increase breast cancer risk".

This means that one of the tests that allows our doctors to diagnose higher risk of breast and ovarian cancer in a section of the population would would be controlled only by the one company, in this case 'Genetic Technologies', potentially limiting access to the test.
An Australian University academic Dr Luigi Palombi claims that such tests are unpatentable.
Professor Ian Olver, chief executive of the Cancer Council Australia says that this "is an area where there is little clarity in Australian law".
The laws of a country are there to protect the people of the country. If the laws are clear enough on this topic they should be made clear.
No company should have the right to hold Patents such as the Patent that threatens the welfare of women in this above mentioned case. This patent, and patents like them are wrong, and should be Illegal under the law.

Dear City Council Members,
We the undersigned hereby appeal the administrative decisions referred to above, including the Coastal Permit, based on the following decision made from the Planning Commission on March 10, 2008.
The applicant has NO Substantial Proof of Necessity for Coverage in this area at all for the 3 Antennas to be hosted at Amazon Bikes at Highway 78 & Vista Way. In the area that the applicant is claiming a gap in coverage Residents say, “they have great quality of cell coverage in and out of houses and neighborhood. Calls received and calls made are just fine in the areas the map the applicant is indicating a gap in coverage”, which was stamped over a year ago in March of 2007. This map then is inconclusive to other antennas that may have gone up in the city since the date the map was submitted, and does not prove the need for coverage. Furthermore, the RF analysis was submitted after Feb 2008, and was not available to residents.
The applicant merely submitted what appears to be a map with ‘guestimates’ of coverage and their bare assertion that such structures are needed. When just north of the proposed site is a 65 foot cell tower hosting an abundance of cell antennas. Additionally there is the massive structure at the North Coast Church just across I-5 freeway, which shows to have plenty of room to host the applicants 3 cellular antennas. The applicant has not shown proof of exhausting these locations, or any other areas. Residents believe there are alternative locations that were not explored and the applicant has ‘under-explored’ such locations. The applicant said they did not want to wait to get approval for the Crown Royal Tower to host the 3 antennas and showed no interest to wait, thus such an expedience to just build because of not wanting to wait is not why we the Residents feel the City of Oceanside should just approve these antennas to be installed, and are asking our Council Members to please vote no.
Further, applicant’s towers would affect the character, quality and views in the neighborhood by creating an ‘antenna alley quality’ with a proliferation of antennas. Adding yet more cell towers fails to preserve the residential character whether the antennas are ‘concealed/aesthetical’ or not. Such additional towers are not compatible with existing residential properties. And under Conditional Use Permits sections (b) adding more cell antennas to this area with other towers/antennas within half a mile will be detrimental to residential properties and cause property values to be lower.
Last, the application does not appear to analyze the effects of the Buena Vista Lagoon, and does not take into consideration being at close proximity with an environmental area. The residents raise questions of concerns for the birds of this area, as the property is along the Buena Vista Lagoon, and may have detrimental effects on the birds who call the preserve home.
Please, we ask you to reverse the approval of the administrative permits and hold a City Council hearing in order to listen to the publics’/residents’ concerns. We value our property and quality of our neighborhoods, and have conducted our own survey of cellular coverage in the area the applicant is claiming to have no coverage. We understand the limitation of the FCC Act of 1996, and understand the city council can say no to the applicant based on NO proof of necessity of coverage, and property value concerns, and environmental impacts.

80. Radiowave Therapy Clinic for East Coast
Australian Dr John Holt's radiowave therapy is an alternative treatment for cancer that does not have side effects like chemotherapy.
There is a clinic in WA and one in Ireland. Jenny Barlow is trying to set one up on the East Coast of Australia to reduce waiting lists in Australia and also provide sick patients on the Eastern Seaboard with treatment as they can not travel to WA or overseas.
Radiowave therapy uses a specific frequency of 434 MHz (megahertz) in the UHF (ultra-high frequency) band to stress or activate cancer cells so that they can then be killed.
Dr Holt treated thousands of patients with one or other of his two radiowave therapies over a period of 30 years.

Cancers that can be prevented or detected earlier by screening account for at least half of all new cancer cases.
Federal funding for prevention and research continues to decline.
82. Enforcement to remove fluoride from San Diego water
It is widely known that fluoride in tooth paste is poisonous if swallowed, it says on the warning label to call poison control if more than is used to brush is swallowed.
So it is highly unethical and dangerous to the citizens of San Diego County to ingest fluoride in the water that is piped into our homes.
Fluoridated water doesn't have any real contact with teeth in the first place so it will not have a protective effect on teeth. In reality when ingested, especially by young children can harmful to the health.
Fluoridation of the water when ingested causes fluorosis, a decay of the teeth, as well as kidney disease, cancer, and effects on the brain such as alzheimers disease.
Fluoride is an excess waste from manufacturing aluminum and nuclear power plants, it is corrosive and toxic, it should not be put into the public water supply.
Avastin is a chemotherapy drug which is effective at fighting colorectal and some forms of lung cancer. However, it is also a very expensive drug.
The Alberta Cancer Board refuses to fund the drug on the basis it is not curative and, therefore, not worth spending the health care dollars. They cite statistics from clinical trials that show Avastin extends life ON AVERAGE by only about a month.
What the Alberta Cancer Board is failing to recognize in this short-sighted decision are two basic facts. First, there are other clinical trials that show using Avastin can make previously inoperable tumours that have spread to other parts of the body operable. For these people, cancer can be cured or, at least, their life expectancy significantly extended.
Second, the Cancer Board is failing to recognize that the clinical trials publish results based on a clinical average. This means there may be some patients for whom this drug will extend their lives significantly while others do not respond at all. This brings the average down to a little over a month.
Shouldn't the patients who respond favourably to this drug be given the opportunity to extend their lives? The Alberta Cancer Board should trust the judgement of their oncologists not to recommend treatment with this drug for those patients it will not help.
84. Surgeon General's Warning on all Tanning Beds
There are startling statistics for a cancer that can, many times, be prevented. The number of young people diagnosed with this cancer is astounding.
Although the public lacks information about this disease, it is one of the fastest growing cancers in the United States and Worldwide, and is the most common cancer in young adults between 20-30 years old [3]. Additionally, it is the leading cause of cancer death in women between 25-30 years old and the second highest cause of cancer death in women between 30-35 years old [3].
Melanoma is an epidemic and the rate of occurrence is rising faster than any other cancer. Currently it affects 1 in 75, and by 2010 it is estimated that 1 in 50 will be diagnosed [1].
"Long-term exposure to artificial sources of ultraviolet rays like tanning beds (or to the sun's natural rays) increases both men and women's risk of developing skin cancer. In addition, exposure to tanning salon rays increases damage caused by sunlight because ultraviolet light actually thins the skin, making it less able to heal. Women who use tanning beds more than once a month are 55 percent more likely to develop malignant melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer [2]."

88. Save the Winnipeg Weekend to End Breast Cancer Event
As many of you already know, CancerCare Manitoba has decided to cancel the 2008 Weekend to End Breast Cancer, citing this event as "too large scale" thereby consuming a significant portion of the fundraising potential of Manitoba.
We do not buy this... we believe that Manitoba is fully capable of supporting this fantastic event as well as the multiple other fundraising initiatives that benefit CancerCare therefore we refuse to go down without a fight!
