276. Compensation For Merchant Marine & Native Veterans
Our father is a War Vet with the first WWW2, Merchant Marine, Korean War and a Indian.Our father did not receive compensation as a merchant marine or as an Indian during his duty to Canada.Our father died in 1992 so when the money came along he had passed away.Our mother did not receive any benifits either. We are asking the people of Canada to help us in obtaining funds under these measures.
We are hoping that the money that was given to merchant marine and the the money given to a native who was in the war but never recognized will be given to his children.If our mother was alive at the time the money was given out she would have received it for the merchant marines. We understand that had our father was alive he would have received compensation for being an Indian during the war as well. All we want is compensation that is owed to our family as it was not easy growing up in poverty an living off the reserve.
We hope that the people of Canada will help us in this endeavour.

A monarchy is a government headed by royalty and in Canada, that's the Queen. A new study says the monarchy and the British crown costs Canadians $34 million dollars a year. The money is partly used to pay for Royal visits like the one happening in October when the Queen is coming. We think the money would be better spent on other things. Last Friday (October 4th, 2002), John Manley declared that abandoning the monarchy when the queen's reign ends would be a better thing for Canada. Domestic violence is the leading cause of death and injury to women between the ages 15-44. Married women are 9 times more likely to be killed by their spouses than by a stranger. In Canada, 60% of female homicide victims are killed by their spouses. On average most women are assualted 35 times before calling the police. 1 out of 8 women, are or have been abused by their partners.
Around 70 women in Canada die each year at the hands of their male partner.

I am writing this personal appeal to the world because by August, I may be incarcerated in prison for having exercised my God-given and constitutionally protected freedom of speech in Canada.
In my work as an advocate and fighter for the rights of aboriginal people, I have discovered that an American conglomerate known as NAWAPA - The North
American Water and Power Alliance - is coveting the lands of native people in central British Columbia, with the assistance of corrupt and violent native
politicians and the government of Canada.
NAWAPA plans to dam and divert three major river systems in our province into the United States through a massive water reservoir known as the Rocky Mountain Trench.

As a result, the lands of thousands of indigenous people in north-central British Columbia will be flooded and their way of life destroyed forever.
Some of the most powerful native politicians in this region are dispossessing their own people from their lands to pave the way for the NAWAPA project. According to eyewitnesses Frank Martin and Helen
Michel of the Dene-Carrier nation, chiefs of the Carrier - Sekani Tribal Council in Prince George, BC
have employed violence, extortion, and even murder to secure trap lines and other lands from their own people.
According to Frank and Helen, and other Tribal Council activists, these chiefs are also implicated in criminal actions like drug trafficking, prostitution,
and the exploitation of children in organized pedophile rings in the Prince George-Moricetown area. These allegations have been substantiated by
journalists, lawyers, and sources within the Carrier-Sekani Tribal Council.
Two weeks ago, one of these accused chiefs, Ed John, commenced a lawsuit against Frank and Helen, myself,
and other critics, to permanently silence and incarcerate us if we persist in our investigation of
crimes against aboriginal people in his territory.
The law firm handling Ed John's case - Blake, Cassells and Graydon of Vancouver - is closely tied to
the government of Canada through its head, Marvin Storrow, who is a close friend and confident of Prime
Minister Jean Chretien.
Chretien has not only recently been cited at the International Criminal Court in The Hague for complicity in Genocide of native people in Canada, but
his government, like Chief Ed John, is committed to the NAWAPA project through its obligations under the NAFTA agreement with the USA.
There can be no clearer case than this one of a modern state employing puppet indigenous leaders to dispossess entire peoples in the interests of foreign
multinational corporations. Nor can there be a more obvious example of a government attacking and silencing dissidents than what myself and native
activists like Frank and Helen are presently up against.
Besides this lawsuit, we are experiencing regular death threats, physical assaults, and other
harrassment designed to isolate and break us.
We need all persons of conscience to rally now to our defense, and to the aboriginal people of central
British Columbia.
We ask that you do the following:
1. Alert Amnesty International and other human rights groups about our case and the ongoing Genocide of
native peoples in Canada, and ask them to adopt us as prisoners of conscience.
2. Contact the government of Canada, and Prime Minister Jean Chretien, and demand that their covert harrassment of opponents of NAWAPA and Ed John cease.
3. Contact Marvin Storrow, Q.C., at Blake, Cassells and Graydon in Vancouver, BC, and demand that this
firm halt their lawsuit (#S012186) and campaign of harrassment of myself and other critics of Chief Ed

On April 26 2002, The Supreme Court of Canada ruled ALL FORGIN PROGRAMMING illegal. The people from Israel can no longer watch Israili tv. People from the United Kingdom can no longer watch programming from the U.K. Dealers of DirecTV signals relied on people that used DirecTV for income. We should have Freedom of Communication, as in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
282. Stop Seal Hunting in Canada
Hunters are set to defy protests and slaughter more than a quarter of a million seals to supply an international trade in furs and health supplements that will soon target Britain's shops.
Sealers are set to defy international protests by clubbing shooting more animals than they have for decades, leaving the Atlantic sea ice off Newfoundland stained red.
The Canadian government has issued licences to shoot or club to death 275,000 harp seals, almost all pups only two weeks old.
The massacre has returned with a vengeance in the past four years following 20 years of strict controls imposed after protests. The two-week-old pups are prized for their soft white fur.
The hunters have vowed to proceed despite the fact that the seal population has already been devastated by global warming, which has melted the ice floes on which the mammals give birth. The lack of ice means that the seals have been forced to give birth in the water, where their pups drown.
Worldwide horror at the hunt led to a boycott of seal fur by most fashion houses and the European Union imposed a ban on certain seal products. To appease animal welfare actitivists, the sealers now try to kill the animals first by shooting them with high-powered rifles, but always carry a club to smash the skulls of any seals that are still alive. However, one group of international vets found that four out of five sealers do not check whether seals are dead before skinning them.
After years of being taboo, seal fur is making a comeback. Last year the Louis Vuitton collection shown in Paris featured coats,tunics and pinafore dresses made from sealskin. Donatella Versace recently featured sealskin in her first collection.
The number of seals being killed has quadrupled in the past four years, and Canadian government scientists estimate the population is declining again by about 1 per cent a year. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans' own documents assert that these forms of commercial trade encourage illegal sealing.
Seal hunting is clearly an industry from another century, and should have been relegated to the history books.
The gun control laws and bill C-68 in Canada are a total farce. Take a look at the guy who registered his heat gun and soldering iron in manitoba. He actually recieved a registration number after he filled out the forms and put the firearm manufacturer as B&D! It has gone to far and is time to fight the canadian government over this money wasting and idiodic registration program and get the bill turned over and get our birth right to self protection and the right to protect the ones we love without having to worry about the government and registering weapons that we have a right to have.

288. Tell the Liberals to Protect the Endangered Species
The Canadian government's continued failure to protect endangered species violates Canada's international obligations and ignores the will of Canadian citizens, says a new Greenpeace report released today.
The report, entitled Wipe Out: The Liberal Government's Plan for Endangered Species in Canada shows how Canada is failing to live up to its international word by failing to protect endangered species. Canada first committed to protect species and their habitats at the Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit in 1992, but has failed to keep its promise, even though 97 % of Canadians support strong endangered species legislation (Pollara, May 1999.)
Its latest Species at Risk Act, Bill C-5, is currently before Parliament and has been harshly criticized by environmentalists and scientists as insufficient.
'After three tries, the Liberals still don't get it. You can't protect species without protecting their habitat and Bill C-5 doesn't do the job', said Tamara Stark of Greenpeace. Bill C-5 violates Canada's international obligations and in the process, does the impossible: makes Brian Mulroney look better than David Anderson.
Stark noted while Canada, under Brian Mulroney, championed the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Liberals have failed to fulfill any of their commitments to the CBD. Canada is hosting an important CBD meeting one month from now in Montreal and, based on the work done to date, will have little progress to report at this meeting.
More than 1,300 scientists from across North America recently urged Prime Minister Jean Chretien to take immediate action to strengthen the endangered species legislation, a requirement of the CBD. Three critical changes needed are to:
1) Require mandatory protection of all critical habitat of species considered at risk;
2) Ensure that scientists, rather than politicians, maintain responsibility for selecting what species are listed at being at risk; and
3) Ensure that the legislation applies to both federal and provincial lands, since the current legislation will apply to only 5 per cent of Canada's landbase.
'By refusing to make the changes needed, David Anderson is betraying Canadian species and violating the trust of Canadian citizens,' Stark said. 'It's time for Prime Minister Chrétien to step in and ensure that Canada keeps its promise to protect this nation's species.'

Since the events of September 11,2001, many people have come to realise just how lax our immigration laws are. We have thousands of unaccounted for immigrants due for deportation hearings, many are let into our country carrying nothing more than a photo id, this must be changed.
The Invisible Killer Dihydrogen monoxide is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and kills uncounted thousands of people every year. Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide do not end there.
Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination, and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death.
Dihydrogen monoxide is also known as hydroxl acid, and is the major component of acid rain. It contributes to the "greenhouse effect", may cause severe burns, and contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape.
It accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals, may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes, and has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients.
Contamination Is Reaching Epidemic Proportions! Quantities of dihydrogen monoxide have been found in almost every stream, lake, and reservoir in America today. But the pollution is global, and the contaminant has even been found in Antarctic ice. DHMO has caused millions of dollars of property damage in the midwest, and recently California.
Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used as an industrial solvent and coolant, in nuclear power plants,
in the production of styrofoam, as a fire retardant, in many forms of cruel animal research, and in the distribution of pesticides.
Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical as an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products. Companies dump waste DHMO into rivers and the ocean, and nothing can be done to stop them because this practice is still legal. The impact on wildlife is extreme, and we cannot afford to ignore it any longer! The Horror Must Be Stopped!
292. Cancel the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement
On January 1, 1997 the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement came into effect. The idea of this agreement, which eliminated 80% of tarrifs between the two countries, was founded during more peaceful days in the Holy Land. Now, however, Israel is committing terrible crimes against the Palestinian people. These crimes, such as torture and harbouring war criminals, plainly violate international law.
Canada cannot continue its overly friendly relations with Israel under such conditions. The agreement while granting Israel great wealth causes Palestinian businesses to lose an estimated 6 million American dollars a day. This petition is for the cancelation of the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement.

297. Help Renee Boje gain refugee status!
I am writing to you on behalf of an amazing woman called named Renee Boje, who has made a rare application for refugee status, stating she fears she will suffer cruel and unusual punishment for her alleged involvement in a medical cannabis garden in California where medical cannabis is legal. If convicted, Boje's punishment will be a mandatory minimum of 10 years to life in a U.S. Federal Prison Boje was held for 72 hours at the Federal Corrections Facility for Women in downtown Los Angeles, during which time she was strip searched an astounding 15 times. Two of the searches were done in the presence of male officers who made lewd and threatening remarks.
Boje strongly denies any wrong-doing. The cannabis was grown for medical research under the protection of a California State law, Proposition 215. Proposition 215 ensures that patients and their primary caregivers, residing in California, who cultivate, obtain, and use cannabis medicinally, upon the recommendation of a physician, are not subject to criminal prosecution or sanction.
Boje risks further physical abuse and humiliation at the hands of U.S. authorities.
Please do not allow the U.S. to extradite Renee. We are asking that Renee be granted Refugee Status so that she is able to live in peace, here in Canada, where she is safe.
298. End Genetic Horse Disease - HYPP
HYPP or Hyperkalemic Periodic Paralysis is a genetic disorder that affects both horses. It has, so far, been traced in horses back to a Quarter Horse ironically named "Impressive." The disorder causes horses that are affected to have muscle spazams, ranging in intensity from unnoticable to unable to stand. A horse may go a very long time, years in fact, without showing any symptoms, then suddenly deteriorate.
When tested for HYPP, there are three possible results: n/n (unaffected) n/h (affected) and h/h (affected, having inherited the h gene from both of the foal's parents. Because the h gene is dominant, a horse with the result n/h has as large a chance of being sick as a horse who receives a result of h/h. Horses who have the dual combination of the bad gene, however, tend to be sicker earlier. 50%, not 25%, of the offspring of a horse with the test result n/h will carry the h gene. The only way to eradicate this problem is to stop all breeding of all horses who possess the h gene. Period.
The Apaloosa Horse Club Of Canada is on the right track. Please follow their link to see what their plan is on this issue. Basiscally, they are already refusing registration to any affected horse that is not steralized. In 2002, they plan to deny registration to ANY horse that is affected. Also, at present, any horse applying for or already registered with the ApHCC must be tested at the request of the ApHCC and have the findings noted on the horse's certificate. This is the least we can ask for. I want disclosure. Breeders should have to tell potential clients about this disorder if they have a positive test result, and sellers should have to tell buyers.
The picture is of my beautiful little filly when she was one day old. Her test just came back positive.
I am not a vet, or any kind of expert. This is just my understanding of what I've read on the subject and my side of my own personal experience.
299. Legalization of Melatonin to be Sold as a Vitamin in Canada
Recent studies suggest that supplementing melatonin may bolster our immune systems, keep our cells from disintegrating, slow the growth of tumors and cataracts, and ward off heart disease, all the while helping us sleep better. (Newsweek, August 1995)
"Studies suggest that low-dose supplements of melatonin can hasten sleep and ease jet lag, without the hazards or side effects of prescription sleeping pills." Melatonin may have many other uses and has been reported to make people feel better, strengthen the immune system, and reduce free radicals in the body. Current research is underway to determine melatonin's effect as an anti-oxidant, immno-modulator in cancer, delayed sleep-phase disorders, and jet lag. Tests are still under way so there is much to still be learned about melatonin and its effects on the human body." (Newsweek, November 6, 1995, p. 60-63).
Melatonin secretion is involved in physiologic sleep onset, and melatonin may be useful in treating insomnia. (Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, May 1995, Harvard, Cambridge, & MIT) Low melatonin levels correlate with low sleep quality. Seven days treatment with melatonin at a level of 2 mg. daily can improve sleep patterns in elderly patients with insomnia. (Dr. Haimov, British Medical Journal, 1994) Young adult subjects assess their sleep as "deeper" after melatonin treatment. (Dr. Nave, European Journal of Pharmacology, 1995)
We produce melatonin abundantly until puberty, and then it declines steadily into old age. (Dr. Russell Reiter, University of Texas) Melatonin is produced in the pineal gland, which is a small gland in the center of the brain. As darkness fall, the pineal gland produces a surge of melatonin that goes to all parts of the body. When light hits the retina of the eye, neural impulses signal the pineal gland to slow melatonin production.
Melatonin has been found to inhibit LDL [low density lipids or "bad cholesterol"] and the synthesis of cholesterol. (Dr. Muller, Biochemical and Biophysical Research, 1994)
Melatonin selectively and efficiently detoxifies highly reactive oxidants [free radicals] by donating an electron to electrophilic compounds. (Dr. Poeggeler, Annals of New York Academy of Sciences, 1995) This may explain why breast cancer and prostate cancer patients taking melatonin had greater survival rates. (Dr. Massion, University of Massachusetts, Medical Hypotheses, 1995) Mice treated with melatonin showed a 50 percent reduction in tumor weight when compared to control mice. (Dr. Berkowitz, Journal of Urology, 1988)
Melatonin helps alleviate the symptoms associated with "Winter Depression". (Dr. Tukholmankatu, Medical Hypothesis, 1994)
Blood pressure normalization is enhanced with melatonin, and it also modulates the release of heart killing stress hormones.
According to many, one of the more effective means of taking a supplement such as melatonin is the sublingual (under the tongue) method. A high quality sublingual melatonin supplement will usually contain 2.5 mg. of melatonin (often in a base of sorbitol and a natural flavor such as peppermint). One tablet can be dissolved under the tongue before retiring. Since this tablet can be dissolved under the tongue, it is excellent for children with sleep disorders and hyperactivity.
300. International Transfer of Offenders Treaty
This petition is on matters concerning the International Transfer of Offenders Treaty. American prison authorities, both federal and state, have for years violated the Transfer of Offender Treaty rights, including the letter of the treaty, with discrimination, denials, injustices, lack of medical treatment, the list is not exhaustive. Our men and women are suffering so much so, that even their family and friends are feeling the atrocities caused by these prison administrators.
