1. Re-Acquire Hulse Property

The two pieces of properties that runs east to west from beach to lagoon where the Lobsterfest is currently held, between Tuna and Cozy Corner running back to the Police Station, as well as the open property next to Cozy Corner on the south side, that runs east to west, beach to road side adjoining the current graveyard.

This property, which is affectionately known as the Hulse Properties, which was initially owned by Archbishop Arthur Dunn and Evadne Hulse; is the only two pieces of property that the village can and should re-acquire in downtown Placencia Village that can, once again, serve a public good, a public purpose and public space for one and all Placencians to enjoy now and in the future.

This property is of perfect size and location where we can have proper space for public parking, public beach area, properly extending our cemetery and to have a general public space.

Placencia must do everything it can to re-acquire this property, we cannot afford not to.

2. Keep Jalama Beach Local, NO RESERVATIONS

Jalama Beach is changing the campsite process.

County and Park officials are working on changing from a first come first serve basis to reservations only. This will make the beach more accessible to out of area campers.

Jalama Beach is loved by locals for being a spot you can escape at the last minute and enjoy our beautiful Central California Coast.

If this camp site process goes to reservation only the spontaneity that is great about Jalama Beach will be lost.

3. Abolish Flagler Beach Pier Walk-On Fees

Flagler Beach Pier is about the only pier in Florida to charge a fee just to walk on. This is totally unjust taxation and gives a bad name to Flagler Beach and residents.

It's time to abolish this outrageous fee. It is understandable to charge a fee for fishermen but not to just take a walk on the pier.

Please sign the petition to Abolish Flagler Beach Pier Walk-On Fees.

4. Allow Backyard Hens in Rockaway Beach Missouri

1. The keeping of chickens in the city supports a local, sustainable food system by providing an affordable, nutritious source of protein through fresh eggs.

2. The keeping of chickens also provides free, quality, nitrogen-rich fertilizer; chemical-free pest control; animal companionship and pleasure; weed control; and less noise, mess and expense than dogs and cats.

The purpose of this petition is to provide support for standards for the keeping of domesticated chickens. It is intended to enable residents to keep a small number of female chickens on a non-commercial basis while limiting the potential adverse impacts on the surrounding neighborhood.

5. Allow dog access to a section of beach in Warringah Council

Out of the nine beaches over which Warringah Council has juridiction, dogs and their owners are not allowed on any of these at any time of the day or the year. The only dog swimming area they provide is at North Curl Curl Lagoon and it is heavily polluted.

Given that around 40% of Warringah house-holds own a dog this means that the Council is failing in its duty to represent its constituents. The issues they site are health and environmental. If a section of a well chosen beach were adequately set up with bins and bags and patrolled regularly by a Ranger this would be no more of an issue than the rubbish left by humans on our beaches.

Dogs do not pollute water simply by swimming in it. A compromise solution needs to be found.

9. Continue to Support all People and Care for the Mentally Ill

We have nothing to fear but fear itself, the words of President Roosevelt still outshine those of cowards and ignorant people such as the person or persons who penned the petition --

Stop Hermosa Beach from Becoming a Haven to the Homeless posted on March 06, 2009.

In the petition, the author(s) claims homeless people being drug users is a reason to enact laws to discriminate against the poor.

This is a comment from a person with no financial intelligence. The speculation that homeless people are drug users is mere fear motivated speculation.

Unlikely to be true since illegal drugs or legal drugs are produced by business minded people and organizations like pharmaceticul companies and so called drug lords. This interest in profit leads them to court customers of an income over $1200 every four months (my own income of late). The more likely consumers of these products are the homeowners in the community, and if people are to be removed from the community for being drug users, the city should survey all individuals for taking viagra, cialis, anti-depressants, cocaine, heroine, alcohol, and designer marijuana regardless of how much they spend on sandals, volleyballs, or homes.

Being homeless exposes you to the ignorance and inexperience of police forces and the most ignorant I have met were not in Hermosa, but Palo Alto, and Redondo, where I was threatened by a police officer until I allowed him to search my car. He said he did not believe in the 4th amendment. A pleasant thought, law enforcers who act according to their interpretations of the constitution. Keeping the low level of intelligence that most law enforcers have and the narrow life experience of the people that our country recruits, homeless people, often, the prey of choice for the ignorant, tend to avoid giving any excuse to police officers, also known as people with guns, to suspect them of any illegal behavior. This is an alternative response to terror than the Bush administrations.

These two reasons, a homeless persons exposure to gun toting police and their poverty, narrow the likelihood that any of them use half as many drugs as the homeowners in the community, and those that do are probably in need of time indoors for readjustment to that lifestyle, charity, kindness, and counseling.

So why did the author suggest this possibility? Either ignorance, fear or profit motive. I have never seen so many people so easily threatened by appearances. I have long hair and a beard and those two choices grant me power to silence most people on the sidewalks and streets of Hermosa Beach. I also have a sense of humor which gives me power to make those same people laugh and this is what I prefer.

Lastly, this is for the sake of the hermosa beach community, an ignorant public is easy to endanger with mind control. Don't except my opinions or those of the other person. Educate yourself, meet a homeless person, meet twenty. Inquire about their interests, passions, upbringing. Go home and think about who you know best in your life and how long it took you to know that person, then, go and meet the homeless person or hopefully by now you see her or him, young or old as a person with a name. Find a common interest and exploit it. Now you have a friend, and who needs greed when you have friends, right?

A person may be incurably psychotic and yet retain the dignity of a human being. Victor Frankl wrote this after his time as a detainee in a German concentration camp. It seems absurd to exclude the possibility for those not from Hermosa Beach or without six figure incomes.

Or if you prefer ABBA, take a chance on me. And travel outside your neighborhood, please!!!

The awful daring of a moment's surrender... no age of prudence can ever retract -- T.S. Eliot Be daring people of Hermosa Beach and remain kind (I met a lot of great people while I was there!).

10. No Permit Parking in Venice, CA

The City of Los Angeles tried to implement an OPD in Venice, CA. Residents appealed this decision to the Coastal Commission.

An OPD or Overnight Parking District is a special permit parking zone regulated by parking enforcement during the hours between 2AM and 6AM. Residents must pay to obtain a permit.

Anyone that needs to use a public street to park a vehicle between 2AM and 6AM is impacted by Overnight Parking Districts.

Low income individuals and families in Venice, CA would be unduly burdened.

14. Save Public Access to Port Kembla Foreshore

On 1 November 2008 security gates are to be erected outside the Sewerage Treatment Plant on Port Kembla Road, locking out all non-business related traffic to the northern Port Kembla harbour foreshore area.

This will come at a huge expense to the local community affecting access to the surf break known as "Oilies", as well as to the broader recreational amenity enjoyed by fisherman, swimmers, walkers, photographers, dog walkers, and cyclists for over 30 years.

Thousands of regular users will be displaced. An IRIS survey conducted on behalf of the Port Kembla Coal Terminal found that on an average summer weekend there are 165 vehicle trips per day to the foreshore in this area.

This closure is contrary to the State Government Policy of maintaining community access to foreshore areas. An ever growing Illawarra population, due to urban consolidation as well as promotion of the area as a tourism and day trip destination, the community needs access to more foreshore area for recreation, not less.

The proposed closure is based on dubious security grounds and has involved no public consultation. Whilst there is recognition of the Ports need for security and the important role that the Port plays in economic terms for the Illawarra and the broader national economy, opportunities exist to secure the facility whilst still permitting community access to the foreshore area.

It is incumbent upon industry to be good neighbours, sensitive to the needs of the community. A simple long term solution exists to ensure the foreshore area is retained in public ownership with free access to all.

16. Noosa River Beach Restoration

The Noosa River beach previously known as Dog or Doggie beach has been completely lost due to erosion by the tidal stream.

This was a very popular beach for the community. The erosion is continuing unabated and is further eroding into the landform known as "The Woods".

There have been many previous attempts by members of the community to bring this problem to the notice of firstly, the Noosa Council and secondly, the Environmental Protection Agency. Maritime Safety Queensland is involved with any safety aspect of boating in the area.

This petition is aimed at collecting tangible support for the restoration of this area as a safe public beach. The Council and other government bodies must be shown that there is a sufficient level of community support to restore and maintain this beach before funding would be made available.

It is voluntary to leave your email address but I would ask you to seriously consider doing so in order that you may be contacted should we wish to organise a supporter's rally. Thanks, David H.

17. Opposition to Proposed Bellerive Beach Dog Ban

The Clarence City Council is currently reviewing a range of issues and proposing some changes to the way in which dogs are managed in the municipality.

This petition has been prepared to register OPPOSITION to the proposal and to allow continued use of the beach by dogs and their owners, as per current arrangements.

18. Save Falcon Beach

Filmed in the cottage community of Winnipeg Beach, the 13-part, one-hour series centres on a group of young people summering in the fictional lakeside resort town of Falcon Beach. It's about summer. It's about freedom. It's about young adults trying to define themselves for their lives ahead.

But it's also about two worlds colliding -- that of the summer cottagers and that of the townies who live and work in Falcon Beach year-round. The show, which returns to Global in fall 2005 after a successful two-hour pilot episode, is a co-production of Toronto-based Insight Productions and Manitoba-based Original Pictures.

Two slightly different versions have been produced: one for Canada and one for the United States, where the series airs on ABC Family and SOAPNet. Changes for the U.S. version include that the local town is in New England and that the Bradshaws are from Boston.

20. Remove health hazards from East Gardena Neighborhood

We have been trying to get a company, Angelus Block, the GARDENA PLANT, 252 E. Redondo Beach. Blvd.
Gardena, CA 90248, (310) 323-8841, FAX (310) 327-2291, to stop making noise 24 hours a day. They have refused to honor our request claiming they have permits that allow them to do as they please.

Our research shows that they are in violation, complaints have been made and we have yet to get a sustained resolution to the problem. Zoning Enforcement, Section I, County of Los Angeles Dept. of Regional Planning, 320 W. Temple St.,Los Angeles, CA 90012 has rendered the following,
"The Conditonal Use Permint (CUP) for the property 252 E. Redondo Beach Blvd. is current. Unfortunately, in reviewing the conditions placed on the business by the CUP, none of the conditions address your concerns. There are no conditions that limit the hours of operation.
Nonetheless, while the CUP gives Angelus Block the right to operate, it by no means gives them the right to operate through the night. If the current operation is in violation of other sections of the County Code, they should be enforced. If the property owner has stated that he has a permit that allows him to operate at night, then that is incorrect and because hours of operation is not part of the conditions placed on the property, it does not give them the right to operate at any hour if it violates the County Code, such as Title 13. Therefore steps can be taken to make Angelus Block comply with the other sections of the County Code."

The materials used to manufacture bricks, concrete, ete contains hazardous material which infiltrate the lungs and Angelus Block does not make any attempts to contain those materials.

22. Bring the Football Team Back to CSULB!

UPDATE as of 7/20/2009: Sorry for the lack of updates, but I do check the petition regularly.

Thank you everyone for signing. Please continue to let others know of our petition! Our goal is to get as many signatures as possible, so please tell others about this petition! We need at least 5,000 signatures before I will submit the petition to President F. King Alexander, which I believe is absolutely possible, as there are 35,000 students on our campus.

.............................................................................................

Simply put, having a football team will not only bring unity to our school, but will also bring in money for our campus, as well as putting our campus on the map.

Reasons why there should be a football team:

1. We are sick of having to cheer for another school.

2. We are sick of seeing people wearing other schools' jerseys/shirts on our campus.

3. Our school has 35,000 students, which makes it a large campus, yet it doesn't have a football team?

4. Bringing football back will benefit the whole school, not just the football players, as people previously have thought. For instance, having a football team will bring back the marching band, and the money earned will benefit the WHOLE school. We'll be able to afford to improve our campus, which will boost our students' morale.

Sign the petition if you haven't already, and forward it to your friends and family, even if they don't go to our school!

GO BEACH!

23. New traffic light for road extending to 212 freeway

June 19, 2006

There are 3 cities meeting within 2 miles on one road. County Road 17. They are Excelsior, Shorewood and Chanhassen.

This road will be extending for several miles to become a connecting road to a new Highway 212. The Speed limits on this road are simply illogical. Toward the south side of the road where the road has a median and turning lanes it is 45 miles per hour. To the North side it rapidly changes from 50 mph down to 45 mph down to 30 mph entering another highway called Highway 7.

Where Excelsior is there are many homes that are close together and has driveways to what was for many years a low traffic road. Now that this highway is coming in the travelers are driving on it like it is a highway even though it is at Lake Lucy Road and Carver Beach Road only two lanes with poor visual sightways for people seeing it from the cross streets.

They are easily in a blind spot unless they drive over a crosswalk area for walkers and bicyclists to also use so they end up partially into the intersection in order to see easily cars on the main road. I avoided a 5 car collision by about about one foot of out car. Experience with this intersection I am afraid to even cross it when the coast is clear as some car might come bounding down it at 70 miles per hour.

There are several residential streets and driveways in that area like in Excelsior though fewer. The County upgraded a Police Officer to a more expensive car to give tickets. But I see the need is greater for putting a traffic light at either Lake Lucy Road or Carver Beach Road to allow for safe entrance and exit out of the road for drivers including many who have children they need to take back and forth to school.

24. Bring Back The Old Clematis

April 13, 2006

Bring back the old West Palm Beach 97-02 night club environment.

Although construction has wreaked havoc on tourism, within the next year downtown will be flourishing with consumers allowing to compete with City Place, Abacoa in Jupiter and the fairly new Downtown at the Gardens, the city of WPB has a unique opportunity to capitalize on the night club industry.

I have personally driven 90 minutes south and back 90 minutes north many a times just to see certain artists at venues or just to site see.

All I am asking is for you to sign this petition and hopefully something good will happen and change and party will come to The City Of West Palm Beach!!!

25. Jacksonville Beach Pier Improvements

REASON FOR PETITION: The following interview was given just before the opening of the new pier and the following statements were made by The New Pier Management and we as pier Patrons/Anglers expect the management to abide by the statements that were made in the following Newspaper Interview in 2004 prior to the completion of the new Jacksonville Beach Pier.

***********************************

Fishermen will be front and center at the new Jacksonville Beach Pier.

That's the word from the folks chosen to manage the 1,300-foot pier, which is expected to open around the end of November.

"That's our primary focus -- fishing," said Don Streeter, a partner in Dania Pier Management. "I think this thing is going to be awesome. There's nothing on the Florida East Coast that equals it in length."

Dania Pier Management operates piers in Dania Beach, Deerfield Beach and Juno. The company was awarded the contract after the city of Jacksonville put out bids to manage the pier. While several groups expressed interest, Dania Pier Management was the only respondent.

"We were doing our own research, talking to cities and counties [with privately managed piers]," said Debbie Doran, of the city's Department of Administration and Finance. "All of them were very pleased with Dania Pier Management."

The firm's contract runs for five years, with a provision to renew for another five years.

When plans for the new pier were first being developed, local fishermen expressed fears it might become not much more than a boardwalk designed to attract tourists. Not to worry, Streeter said.

"We're going to do everything we can to make it where the fisherman is the main priority," he said. "Whatever the fishermen want -- whether it's live shrimp, greenies. If it's available, we'll have it."

The pier's main building will house restrooms and a bait and tackle shop. Rental rods will be available, and popular pier lures and other tackle will be sold.

"All piers are different," Streeter said. "Here in Dania, they very rarely fish with plugs or lures. But in Juno, 80 percent of them use lures."

Streeter recently met with Doran, and he'll submit a list of recommendations, including admission fees and hours.

"They're in the business of operating piers, so I'm sure we'll look closely at their recommendations," Doran said.

Streeter's plans call for the same admission fees charged by the old pier. Ronnie Waterman, who once managed the old pier, said admission fees were $3.75 to fish, 75 cents to walk.

Streeter is also recommending that the new pier be open from one hour before sunrise to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. On Fridays and Saturdays, the closing time would be 11 p.m.

"That's the way we're going to start off, and if the demand is there, we'll extend the hours," Streeter said.

Dania Pier Management's Juno pier is open from 30 minutes before sunrise to sundown. The company's other two piers are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Streeter, who plans to live in Jacksonville Beach at least temporarily, expects to hire several people to run the new pier.

The pier is expected to feature four fish-cleaning stations, two on each side. The original architect's plans included cleaning stations only on the north side, but Streeter recommended southside stations for use during colder months.

"If you've ever tried to clean fish facing into the wind during the winter ...," Streeter said. "The city has been very receptive to ideas. They're in agreement, if it benefits the pier and the fishermen, they're open to discussion."

The old Jacksonville Beach Pier held a popular annual tournament for surface and bottom species. Streeter said the new pier may also stage some kind of competition. Last year, on opening day of snook season, the Dania Pier conducted a $5 Calcutta pool for the first legal snook caught and the heaviest legal snook.

"If we get notice a good run of blues is coming down from the Carolinas, we might institute something like that," Streeter said.

Benches on the pier will be built back to back with space in between. Streeter has plans to install wind breaks that would fit in that space. Trash receptacles are scheduled to be emptied once a day.

26. Place a Caution Traffic Light on Bellevue and a Niles

The corner of Bellevue Ave and Niles Ave continutes to be an area of great danger for the pedestrians and traffic in this area. This has been the area of three or four traffic accidents in the last year. This is especially hazardous because of children and traffic attending Mt. Calvary Academy and the city's park accross the street and the newly opended George Butts Park, on Bellevue Avenue.

We have requested the city of Daytona to place caution light in this area, on several occasions. It is our opinion that the placement of this caution light will tremendously add to the safety of our children and help prevent our children from injury.

27. Manhattan Beach Skate Plaza

Dear Mayor Wilson and City Council Members:

It has become apparent that there is NO WHERE in Manhattan Beach for kids to skateboard. It is presently illegal to skate in our park and on the street, or for skaters to use any public or private sidewalk or handrail as a skate obstacle. Our children are being treated like criminals and ticketed for engaging in an activity that not only provides psychological benefits like increased levels of self-esteem and confidence, but which also provides a fun physical activity.

Skateboarding has become the sport of choice for over 13 million Americans. In fact, the amount of skateboarders has surpassed the amount of Little League baseball players.

Since Manhattan Beach is able to provide more than adequate facilities for baseball, football, tennis, golf, swimming and soccer, why have we not addressed facilities for this growing population of skaters?

We, the residents signed below, request that an OUTDOOR PUBLIC SKATE PLAZA be built to accommodate skateboarding. This skate plaza differs from a skate park in the sense that it has curbs, ledges, benches, tables, stairs and rails that the "street skating" kids could use as obstacles instead of private, public or commercial property. We find this type of design appropriate considering that 78% of all skateboarders classify themselves as "street skaters". It would also have a designated beginner section, so that smaller and less advanced skaters can have a place to practice without being intimidated by the more advanced athletes.
