2. Save BBC's "Being Human"

In February 2013, it was announced that series 5 of Being Human would be the last.

Please sign the petition if you feel that the show, which has given us wonderful actors, writers as well as moments of great drama and comedy, still has a future.

Thank you.

3. Bring Back Top of the Pops

Top of the Pops used to be a social bond between families and generations.

New music had an outlet and the music industry benefited from the exposure.

With its cancellation music had to go viral on the internet and digital TV channels.

What we are entering into is a period of no cross over music and musical stagnation where the only outlet for 'new' music or talent on TV are reality/talent shows.

Bring back Top of the Pops.

4. We want a second series of Me and Mrs Jones, BBC!

Me and Mrs Jones was a prime-time sitcom on BBC 1 in the UK in October/November 2012. Drawing on some of the talents that made the amazing Green Wing, Me and Mrs Jones is clever, insightful, brilliantly scripted, directed and produced.

The actors are superb, with Sarah Alexander in the title role and the wonderful Robert Sheehan, Neil Morrissey and Nathaniel Parker as the 3 men in her life. The supporting cast is also brilliant.

The show was up against several populist standards and ill-promoted by the BBC, hence ratings weren't great. But 99% of those that saw it, loved it and became really involved with all the characters. Many people blogged, wrote to the BBC or tweeted for the first time, in support of the show. The series ended on a wonderful, dramatic, romantic cliffhanger.

The British Comedy Guide said 'If a second series isn't commissioned of this heart-warming, laugh-out-loud comedy, it'll be the televisual crime of the year.'

Then the BBC in its wisdom decided not to make a second series. Why? Maybe because of the ratings, although that is surely due to poor promotion. Maybe because it's show that is expected to appeal to women, although many men and kids love it too.

Please watch it if you haven't, then you'll be sure to sign this petition in support of a second series. The BBC has failed viewers in not giving this show a chance to achieve what it surely can. Come on BBC, lets have another series!

5. Show BBC's "Roads to Freedom" (1970)

For many people the BBC's adaptation of John Paul Satre's novels that comprise "The Roads to Freedom" was one of the finest series ever made for television. It stands today amongst the greats even after all this time.

For years the BBC cloaked the existence of recordings in secrecy, leading to the belief that no recordings existed. This year a few hundred people were privileged to see the whole series screened at the British Film Institute in London. It sold out.

Just after, its director James Cellan Jones wrote:
"I directed Roads to Freedom for the BBC in 1970. It had some faults but was one of the best things I've ever done; it was repeated on BBC2 in 1976/7. It was shown at the NFT on May 12th & 13th, 2012 to full houses at both sessions. This was entirely due to Marcus Prince of the BFI who persuaded the BBC to lend them new copies.

I would love to see this show broadcast again and was encouraged by the enthusiasm of the NFT audience who I advised to write to the BBC requesting a retransmission or the publication of of it on DVD."

Now we know that it exists, this petition is designed to show the BBC that there is a demand in the UK and overseas for:
- screenings on BBC television
- release of a DVD worldwide of the series.

12. Get Robbie Savage off the BBC

Since retiring from football in May 2011 Robbie Savage has found his way onto several radio and television programmes on the BBC.

Robbie Savage is a airwave and screen pollutant, his unique brand of football punditry adds nothing of intelligence to the shows in which he has participated. He has shown himself to be an ignorant, small-minded, rude, arrogant, offensive and downright unamusing in his work as a 'pundit'.

I have had enough of his presence on our airwaves and screens, and have been forced into action as a result. I would prefer the BBC to spend our money hiring an inanimate object or small furry mammal that would provide an equivalent footballing insight without being so very offensive, this would also save the tax payer a significant amount of cash.

13. Merlin and Arthur - It Gets Better

According to a 2011 report; lesbian, gay and bisexual youth are four times more likely to commit suicide than their heterosexual counterparts.

A 2009 report, quoted by the Trevor Project, lists suicide as the third leading cause of youth deaths in the age group 15-24.

Further, it has been recognised in the BBC’s consultation report of September 2010 (Portrayal and Inclusion of Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual People on the BBC) that on the subject of the number of programs including lgbt storylines: “The vast majority of respondents thought that there is insufficient portrayal of lesbian, gay and bisexual people across the BBC with 70% of respondents holding this view.”

Given that the BBC television production Merlin is watched by millions across the UK, and indeed the world, and recognising that the characters of Arthur Pendragon and Merlin (in particular) are especially appreciated in the lgbt community; we call upon the writers and producers of Merlin to produce an It Gets Better Today video with the aforementioned characters to help combat the epidemic of lgbt suicide and the primary cause thereof; homophobic bullying.

14. David Starkey does not represent London

Petition calling on Boris Johnson to withdraw his invitation to The Mayor's Thames Festival.

We the undersigned call on the Mayor of London to withdraw the invitation to David Starkey to speak as part of the Mayor's Thames Festival.

In a discussion about the riots this summer on BBC Newsnight, David Starkey used race-based terminology to explain the riots, claiming '"What has happened is that the substantial section of the chavs that you wrote about have become black. The whites have become black. A particular sort of violent, destructive, nihilistic gangster culture has become the fashion,"'. He also claimed Jamaican Patois has ''been intruded in England...so many of us have this sense of literally a foreign country''. Comments encouraging the idea that black people and black culture lie at the root of the issues leading to the riots can only whip up racism and prejudice.

The Newsnight discussion then turned to the Mark Duggan protest. When Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis, responded to Starkey saying that both white and black youth were involved in the riots, he contended that "it started as a black protest about the killing of a black man". When Owen Jones, another guest on the show, pointed out this was a peaceful protest about the shooting of Mark Duggan, and could not be held responsible for the riots, Starkey replied "it very quickly ceased to be peaceful". Quite apart from their race-bias, these comments are hurtful to the family of Mark Duggan, and also ignore the fact that the family strongly condemned violence of the riots.

The true spirit of London is not reflected in comments like these, but in the clean-up operations when people came together from all communities to repair the damage.

It is offensive and insensitive to give David Starkey a platform at the Mayor's Thames festival. Starkey's comments triggered thousands of complaints and have caused deep offence.

15. Multiculturalism is big enough to survive David Starkey

The BBC has been criticised for airing David Starkey's views about the impact of certain negative aspects of Jamaican culture on British Society.

Multiculturalism must be robustly and maturely criticised if it is to continue to evolve as a social model. The BBC supports Multicultural Britain by continuing to providing a forum for this robust criticism and for any ensuing debate that may arise from it.

16. PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM BBC WORLD HAVE YOUR SAY

On Monday 8th August 2011, during the height of major civil unrest, BBC World Have Your Say on the BBC World Service broadcast a phone-in debate on the England riots entitled "Is there a problem with young black men?".

The programme made a clear link between the England riots and the idea that the cause was due to a problem with young black men in general. It invited calls and comments from around the world to respond.

There is no editorial justification for the topic and the majority of comments on the World Have Your Say Facebook site reflect the dismay and shock that this subject has been deemed worthy of a respected international broadcaster.

The BBC's own editorial guidelines state:
"5.4.38. We aim to reflect fully and fairly all of the United Kingdom's people and cultures in our services. Content may reflect the prejudice and disadvantage which exist in societies worldwide but we should not perpetuate it. In some instances, references to disability, age, sexual orientation, faith, race, etc. may be relevant to portrayal. However, we should avoid careless or offensive stereotypical assumptions and people should only be described in such terms when editorially justified."

17. Public Apology needed from David Starkey and the BBC

David Starkey and the BBC should be made to give a public apology for the unacceptable comments made on the BBC's Newsnight.

Unacceptable comments made:

''The whites have become black''

"This language which is wholly false, which is this Jamaican patois that’s been intruded in England, and this is why so many of us have this sense of literally a foreign country."

"Listen to David Lammy, an archetypical successful black man, if you turned the screen off so you were listening to him on radio you’d think he was white."

18. Increase Transparency in the Family Courts

The Government opened family courts up to greater media scrutiny, in response to criticism that the current set up is overly secretive in April 2009. This was approved by Parliament. Journalists are able to attend family court hearings in county courts and the High Court from 27 April 2009.

‎"The provisions in the Children, Schools and Families Act have been universally condemned and should be abolished, the Justice Select Committee says. Instead, ministers should redraft proposals to increase transparency in the family courts, putting the views of children centre stage."

The subject of newspaper reporting of cases heard in the high court namely to do with private and public law. The Children Act 2004 para 251. Section 62(1) amends section 97 of the Children Act 1989 to make clear that the publication of material from family proceedings which is intended, or likely, to identify any child as being involved in such proceedings (or the address or school of such a child) is only prohibited in relation to publication of information to the public or any section of the public. In effect, this means that passing on information identifying, or likely to identify, a child (his school or his address) as being involved in court proceedings to an individual.

The Court of Appeal has decided that the prohibition from identifying children which section 97 of the Children Act 1989 provides only applies whilst the proceedings relating to the child in question are in progress. Once the proceedings have concluded, the protection given by the Act comes to an end, the entitlement to anonymity thereafter being dependent upon an exercise in balancing the Convention rights of those involved. http://www.judiciary.gov.uk/media/media-releases/2006/news-release-1806

Although statistics are published about cases that pass through the courts, these in their nature cannot answer claims that abuses of the system are not identified and that there are effectively no quality controls.

I am a mother of one. I have had my trials and tribulations being a parent, just as all parents have. Supporting my child in a positive direction; encouraging little one to do well in school and understand the diversities of others. My child and I are the victims of racial harassment promoted by the family court system and rubber stamped by our country. My family case is to do racial harassment by our country. Everyone has a unique story to tell. This is my own. http://wp.me/pXLdg-iY

My Daughter has one kidney, which was damaged when she was born. Her medical records reveal that it was I who nurtured her to recovery. The Doctor sang my praises. Trauma promotes ill health in later life. Furthermore I had eight miscarriages, before little one was born. I was beaten up by the police so they could take her and the one social worker who was in attendance stood there and watched, as my daughter looked on from the middle of the room as we fought rolling around on my settee. There were a number of police officers present.

UK FAMILY COURT JUDGES VIOLATE AND DENY HUMAN RIGHTS OF CHILDREN - There is a clear need to increase transparency in the family courts, putting the views of children centre stage. Once a child is proven to be 'Gillick' competent the child must be allowed to attend Court to give their views to a Judge. Guardians ad litem should not in any circumstance give evidence on behalf of a child that will decide the fate of the child. The Court have a duty to prevent hearsay evidence. It is imperative that Parliament quash the power of Guardians ad litem decision to admit the hearsay of a child as evidence in Private and Public family law matters. The more serious the allegation, the greater the importance of ensuring that the accused parent(s) is afforded fair and proper procedural safeguards in civil and criminal matters. There is no public interest in a wrong result. This must include 'Private and Public' Law cases.

That it is fair to admit the hearsay evidence of a child and a Judge's decision to admit it is irrational and constituted a breach of the claimant's Article 6(1) right to a fair hearing and cannot stand.

Qualitative methods produce information only on the particular cases studied, and any more general conclusions are only hypotheses. Quantitative methods can be used to verify, which of such hypotheses are true. This is what this petition is about.

20. Formula 1 on SBS

Channel Ten and its sports off-shoot, ONEHD, have improved Australia's coverage of Formula One substantially over the last few years. However, the excellent coverage provided by the host broadcaster BBC TV cannot and will not be matched for Australian viewers while a commercial provider has the Australian broadcast rights.

SBS or ABC would provide an excellent solution to the poor state of Formula 1 television broadcast rights in Australia. Australian Formula 1 fans have suffered long enough, and it is time the world's most watched form of motorsport had a suitable home on Australian Free-to-air television.

21. More Classic Doctor Who repeats on the BBC!

Over two evenings last week, BBC Four repeated the 1976 Fourth Doctor story, The Hand of Fear. This was arranged in tribute to the late Elisabeth Sladen, as it was her final regular appearance, and it was excellent to see Classic Doctor Who back on the BBC, even though it was to mark such a very sad passing.

Repeat showings of these wonderful stories are very rare these days, but they needn't be. BBC Four is perfectly suited to showing these episodes, and if this happened on a regular basis then many fans, even the casual fans, would be very happy indeed!

What if BBC Four regularly repeated the older episodes? I'm sure I'm not the only fan of the show who would jump at the opportunity to see these stories.

22. Release surviving episodes of "Animal, Vegetable, Mineral?" on DVD!

"Animal, Vegetable, Mineral?" was a popular quiz show which ran from 1952 until 1959, in which eminent scientists would try to guess the origin of specimens from museum and university collections.

It was one of the BBC's first major panel games.

David Attenborough was the programmes chief producer, he was also responsible for selecting the items to be shown to the panel. It was his second television 'credit'.

Four complete episodes exist in the BBC archives.

We would like the BBC to release the four surviving episodes (as well as any surviving clips) on DVD, so that they can continue to educate and entertain.

23. Release David Attenborough's Zoo Quest on DVD!

Zoo Quest was a series of nature documentaries broadcast on BBC television between 1954 and 1963. It was the first major programme to feature David Attenborough.

The series was the most popular wildlife programme of its time in Britain, and established Attenborough's career as a nature documentary presenter.

With the exception of the original 1954 series, (which survives as edited compilations repeated the following year) all episodes of Zoo Quest exist in the BBC Archives.

We want the BBC to release all of the Zoo Quest series on DVD, so that they can continue to educate and entertain.

25. SLS: Super League Show for England & Wales

Currently the BBC only broadcast 'The Super League Show' in afternoon and evening slots across Northern England regions (North East & Cumbria, North West, Yorks & Lincs, Yorkshire). Whilst viewers in the Midlands, Southern England and Wales can only see it in the very early hours of the morning (usually between 12:00am and 4:00am).

We would like the programme to be broadcast in it's usual afternoon/evening schedule across the whole of England and Wales from 2012.

This is desired because there are now a large number of Rugby League fans living outside of the four Northern England regions mentioned above, as well as two professional clubs that currently play in the Super League competition. We believe that currently the BBC is not making the programme accessible to a broad audience and attempting to widen it's appeal*.

Can you imagine living your whole life asking who you are and being too scared to ask in case you offend someone? Help adoptees have the same human rights as any other human being - knowledge of their heritage.

Let's stop World Leaders brushing all this under the carpet and force them to change legislation that will help give adoptees back the lives they were born with.
