1. Modification of Flagstaff Smoke Free Air Ordinance

The state of Arizona adopted A.R.S. §36-601.01 in November of 2006, but the city of Flagstaff passed a local ordinance that furthered this act by prohibiting the ability to smoke indoors in any public place, even if that place principally sells or distributes tobacco, such as a smoke shop, hookah bar, and so on.

The Arizona law does not prohibit smoking within a "Retail tobacco store that makes at least 51% of its profit from the sale of tobacco," which is how the law should remain in all parts of Arizona.

This petition is in place to ask the city of Flagstaff to repeal or amend their individual smoke free ordinance to allow for "Retail tobacco stores" to operate once more in Flagstaff.

2. Stop Hornes Lawsuit against Arizona Marijuana Law

In November of 2010 proposition 203 was passed by the citizens of Arizona with a percentage of 51% voting YES on the legalization of Medical Marijuana in the state. Since then there has been thousands of people across the state who have spent their money on medical tests, and procuring the special licenses from the Arizona health department in order to cultivate their own plants or buy from dispensaries when they are finally set up.

Now Arizona attorney General Tom Horne has begun a lawsuit to end the legalization of Medical Marijuana that was already passed by the voters. If YOU are tired of the Politicians believing that YOUR opinion doesn't matter and YOU believe in equal rights and believe that Marijuana can be used medicinally, PLEASE sign this petition and STOP Tom Hornes' interference in a matter that was VOTED on by us, the citizens of Arizona!

3. Save Our Wide Open Spaces

Canyon Country Coalition for Responsible Renewable Energy

Our coalition includes Property Owner Associations/Communities along the Grand Canyon Corridor (Highway 64). We have many concerns about the proposed Perrin Ranch wind project and our goal is to ask the Coconino County Planning and Zoning Commissioners and Board of Supervisors to declare a MORATORIUM on all conditional use permits for the installation of this wind project until the county and its citizens determine what renewable energy is best for us.

We are not against wind energy but we are against placing an industrial wind project in this corridor. We believe that renewable energy projects, in particular wind energy, must be evaluated in the same way as any industrial power project whether renewable or not.

Grand Canyon is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. If we destroy the open land leading to this incredible place then how can we hope to preserve the wonder and beauty of this location?

We have to ask is this project really good for our future and our local economy? Is industrial wind power really worth doing if we are going to lose our pristine landscapes and wide open spaces? These 400 foot turbines are permanent and we must examine whether this is the right CHOICE for the Grand Canyon Corridor.

The local economy of Williams, Arizona and the Grand Canyon Corridor (Highway 64) are based on two major resources: Tourism and Hunting

WIND FARMS are INDUSTRIAL WIND POWER SITES which will not contribute to the protection of our natural resources or local economy! None of the power produced will power our homes or businesses.

The income from our two major resources Tourism and Hunting will always provide more revenue than the proposed income described by NextEra in their presentations or news Ads.

We are very concerned that this project has the potential to:
• Destroy the natural area of the Cataract Canyon Watershed
• Create greater risks for flooding, forest fires, and devastation to the environment & wildlife
• Ruin the views of our wide open spaces from Highway 64 and our properties
• Not conform to the 1992 Red Lake Area Plan regarding industrial development along this corridor
• Increase the risks for more wind turbines in the immediate future to the north and east of our properties as other ranchers are now negotiating with NextEra
• Have an adverse effect on our property values
• There has already been a 27% decrease in property values in the Williams area due to the economic slump and we have good reason to believe this project will decrease our property values further.

As citizens of Coconino County we are asking our county government representatives to oppose the Conditional Use Permit for the Perrin Ranch Wind Project. Our community development commissioners have for years protected the Grand Canyon Corridor from industrialized development and we are asking that they continue this effort by voting against this project and sending the message that this project is NOT the right choice for the Grand Canyon Corridor.

5. Support Arizona's New Illegal Immigration Law

Show your support for the Arizona Immigration Law

Arizona's law is scheduled to take effect July 29th, but the Obama administration is trying to block the law. The new Arizona law orders immigrants to carry their alien registration documents at all times and allows police to question people during any lawful contact if there's reason to suspect they're in the United States illegally. The law does not allow police to round up people and check their documentation papers. The law also targets those who hire illegal immigrant laborers or knowingly transport them.

Sign the petition to let the Arizona Governor know that you support the new law and to let President Obama know that you oppose efforts to block it.

7. Truth in Legislation Act

If we refuse to hold our representatives and our president accountable for our security, economics and rate of spending then we risk allowing the united states to smother under her own weight.

We have a vote and fully intend to use it wisely research the issues before us and separate the truth from the lies I’m asking you sir to introduce a Bill to bring about truth integrity & honesty. With strong penalties of their own expulsion should a representative or any government official including the president willfully misled the American people.

Bring this law not only to the capital but to the white house and the entire political process. We must demand that we get real and truthful facts to base our opinions (votes) on. We the people are ultimately responsible for our own destiny. However there can only be one true set of facts, we will no longer allow congress or the senate to lie or otherwise mislead the American people . This Is not politics Like the president said in the resent round table debate. It is simply seeing who can be the best story teller and convince the American people that a specific bill is in there best interest. WE deserve better and we know better we need to be assured that when the members of congress or the senate or the president speak it is with the same reliable truthful stabilizing voice reflecting the same set of true facts or numbers so there can be absolutely no confusion. This has become necessary because of the present policies in congress, senate and the white house. Additionally distorting the true facts of any candidate running for office in this land our land can not will not and should not be tolerated..

I simply can't believe I am writing this letter and it has become overwhelmingly apparent that Washington is out of control and needs the oversight of the American people to ensure we have truth in the legislative process. This is an important first step this has got to be done the American people will not allow you all to ignore the simple truth. WE the people are the most Important and powerful part of this republic.

P.S. I am sure you can agree that truth in legislation is a positive thing that will bring about a new era of trust in government

10. Boycott "Los Suns"

In order to apply for an Arizona Drivers License (or any State) for the first time, i.e., if under 18 you must have two forms of identification such as a birth certificate and a social security card.

If a person is not a citizen of the U.S. they must have a Green Card, which is based upon a foreign certificate of birth. A person’s valid Green Card also means that he or she is registered in the U.S. in accordance with United States immigration law.

J.D. Hayworth, the Arizona conservative challenging Sen. John McCain in the Republican Senate primary, wants an apology from the general manager of the Phoenix Suns over his remarks about Arizona's new immigration law which requires a Green Card for legal immigrants or permanent residents.

"For [Suns General Manager] Steve Kerr to make comparisons with this law (S.B. 1070 & H.B. 2162) with Nazi Germany is beyond the pale," Hayworth said, Arizona radio station KTAR reports. "He should apologize, that has no basis in fact."

The Phoenix Suns basketball team wore their "Los Suns" jerseys during Game 2 (May 5th) of the NBA Western Conference semifinals to show solidarity with anarchical groups protesting Arizona's new immigration law.

Over 70% of Arizona legal citizens and over 60% of all Americans support the concept of ensuring that anyone entering the U.S. be a legal entrant. 10 more States are now considering legislation based upon Arizona S.B. 1070 & H.B. 2162.

Arizona citizens are in fear for their lives, property and economic security. The annual cost of illegal aliens living in Arizona and populating our prisons is about $2 BILLION.

Drug Cartels cross our southern border with a machine gun-mounted vehicle in the lead; paramilitary troops behind that; the illegal drugs, and then a rear guard of more paramilitary troops. They kill anyone in their way.

Ranchers and landowners report that 100 to 300 illegal aliens cross their land several times a week leaving a trail of environmental devastation.

Human Smugglers escorting illegal aliens often rape the women and kill any of the illegals that cause trouble. Phoenix is the nation's #1 city for kidnapping, and most all involved in this are illegal aliens and the criminals that ransom or kill the subjects of these crimes.

Arizona Director of State Education, Tom Horne has documented that La Raza (The Race in Spanish) / MEChA has infested many schools to replace social studies with their curriculum. MEChA is an Hispanic separatist organization that encourages anti-American activities and civil disobedience. The radical members of MEChA who refer to themselves as "Mechistas," romanticize Mexican claims to the "lost Territories" of the Southwestern United States -- a Chicano country called Aztlan.

Tucson, AZ is a sanctuary city with the outcome being that there are 5,000 gang members in over 100 gangs, a majority being illegal aliens, that are ravaging homeowners with break-ins, theft, robberies, stolen cars and personal assaults.

11. We Stand With Arizona, and Against Illegal Immigration

Arizona is besieged by illegal immigration--more people and drugs cross illegally into the United States through Arizona than any other state. And Arizonans suffer the massive levels of crime that go with it. Drug and human smuggling, extortion, kidnapping and murders. And the Federal government has done NOTHING to stop it.

Arizonans have had enough. They decided to stop waiting for the Feds to do what the Constitution mandates--to protect its citizens from external threats. So they passed legislation to help stop the robberies, shootings, rapes, kidnapping, murders, and madness.

This isn't about racism, or xenophobia, or "apartheid" or any of the other hysterical slanders the left has come up. This is about the safety and well-being of the citizens of the state. And its support was overwhelming: 70% of Arizonans supported it. And support is Bi-Partisan, with 84% of Republicans and 51% of Democrats in favor.

But some have now come out and called for a boycott of Arizona. Incredibly, even one of its own U.S. Representatives--Rep. Raul Grijalva has joined this call for a boycott--of his own state!

14. Quiet Pima County

'Quiet Pima County' is an advocate/support group for all unfortunate people who suffer from the adverse effects of incessant dog barking. Our main objective is to change the laws and to sensitize law enforcement to the plight of chronic noise sufferers, as well as their own obligation to protect the public health.

Uncontrolled or excessive noise from dogs is detrimental to the physical mental and social well being of the residents of Pima County. Uncontrolled and particularly incessant barking of dogs or the making of noises from other animals can result in stress to people who are within audible range of such noise. Such stress can and does adversely affect the health of such individuals and interferes with the peaceable enjoyment of the property on which they reside.

The purpose of this Ordinance is to promote the public health safety and welfare by making it unlawful to permit an animal to create such an offensive situation by barking or otherwise creating detrimental noise.

15. Stop Native Eviction In Arizona!

As we speak, there exist a life-threatening state of fear and anxiety in a traditional Native American community in Arizona. Big Mountain on Black Mesa is the only place in the United States where two Indian nations can still define cultural coexistence and shared territories, and now have become endangered aboriginal peoples.

The U.S. courts have ordered eviction on the remaining traditional Dineh People and keep the areas sealed and isolated. Peabody Coal Company has taken the last aquifer of clean drinking water that is sacred to the Dineh' and uses it to slurry coal for American citizens.

This leaves the people without access to or maintenance of water wells and subject to other government actions like: limitation or complete denial of crop cultivation and livestock husbandry, community and religious activities, disregard for elder residents’ safety needs to attain wood fuels for heating and cooking, deliberate breaking up of family and clan structures, controlled national media that portray the Big Mountain story as a result of legitimate and humane court decisions, Peabody mines that create daily detonation that causes micro-quakes, and massive emissions of coal dust and engine exhaust.

The United States is allowing this tragedy and genocide to be sustained under the guise that relocation is on a voluntary basis. These traditional resisters hold great knowledge and wisdom of ancient information and natural existence that are culturally irreplaceable, and it is our responsibility to stop the United States and its largest coal-producer, Peabody Energy, from executing this crime against humanity and mega-environmental destruction. It is 2009, will we let the Trail of Tears happen all over again and stand witness to it?

On December 22, 2008, Office of Surface Mining (OSM) issued a record of decision approving Peabody Western Coal Company’s mine permit revision application for the Black Mesa Complex. Through policies such as PL93-531, the U.S. has already forcibly relocated more than 14,000 Dine’ people from their ancestral homelands.

At this moment, the decision makers in Washington D.C. and Peabody Energy are planning ways to expand their occupation of sacred tribal lands to extract mineral & other resources.

16. Don't Reopen Black Mesa Coal Mine

The Black Mesa mine holds its location in the arid Northeastern Arizona on the Navajo and Hopi Indian Reservations. A contract was signed in the mid 1960’s with the Peabody Coal Company in order to allow use of the aquifer.

The Navajo Aquifer was being used by the mining company since 1964 in order to slurry the coal. The water has been drained by at least 30% which causes a problem for the Navajo Indians who use the water for agricultural use as well as drinking water. The Navajo and Hopi tribes believe that there is a religious significance to the aquifer as well.

The company also, due to its mining pursuits, tried to relocate much of the tribes reservation although 300 families disagreed and stood up for their land. The Black Mesa Mine was shut down in 1996 but continued running until December of 2005.

Now that the Northeastern Arizona area is having problems with their electricity the Peabody Coal Company is fighting to obtain permits to reopen the mine, using the electricity problem as their driving force. The bigger issue is that they will not only be using the Navajo Aquifer and the Coconino Aquifer as well as relocating families disrupting the area of the mines. If this permit is obtained, they will be able to pump water out of the mines until 2026.

18. World-Class Education for Arizona: Support School Libraries & Information Technology

Citizens across the state of Arizona are calling on state leaders to ensure that all Arizona elementary and secondary students have full-time access to school libraries and a certified teacher librarian.

It is our hope that Arizona voices can help reverse the trend of serious reductions to our school library programs by calling on our leaders to ensure that teacher librarians, library programs and technology training are no longer at risk. It is our wish that our children and their teachers have full and equal access to the literacy and collaborative opportunities provided by our school libraries and certified teacher librarians. It is our belief that information literacy and the technology training facilitated in our school libraries are crucial to our children, and that the teacher librarian's knowledge of student ability allows them to place "just right books" into the hands of students, fostering a love of reading and life-long learning.

The Arizona Republic published an article this year (3/11/08) which highlights just some of the cuts that have occurred in Arizona:

"Bill Myhr, superintendent of Fountain Hills Unified District, credits librarians with helping teachers and students lift his four schools to "excelling," the state's top rating. Still, he has proposed cutting librarians next year and replacing them with one district librarian.

Next year, eight schools in the Tempe Elementary District are likely to lose full-time librarians. Librarians who are serving 500 students all week this year will serve 900 students part time next year.

Tucson Unified schools must split a shrinking number of staff hours among a librarian, a counselor or another teacher."

Mesa Public Schools, Arizona's largest school district serving 74,000 students, recently announced a decision to eliminate librarians in all of its schools over a three-year period.

The results of numerous studies indicate that Arizona students and teachers would be best served by intact, fully-funded library and technology programs.

The U.S. Commission on Libraries and Information Science summarizes what decades of research have shown in state after state after state:

*Students in schools with good school libraries learn more, get better grades, and score higher on standardized test scores than their peers in schools without libraries.
*School Libraries have an important role in teaching. Certified teacher librarians are working with teachers to change what is possible in the classroom and support learning opportunities with books, computer resources and more.
*School libraries are leading the way for technology use in schools.
*School libraries inspire literacy.
*School libraries need to be staffed by a certified teacher librarian in order to have a positive impact on student academic achievement. (http://www.nclis.gov)

To access an extensive list of research please see http://www.lrs.org/impact.php

Dr. Michael B. Eisenberg, Dean Emeritus and Professor of Library and Information Science at the University of Washington, puts it like this:

“This is the information age. Key basic skills for all students are reading, communicating, information and technology literacy. To quote Bill Gates, ‘Computers today are a million times more powerful than 20 years ago. And, it’s going to happen again. In 20 years, computers will be a million times more powerful than today.’

What does that mean for our children? What will it mean to live and succeed in such a world? Our children will need to be more than literate – they will need to be fluent in reading, communicating, information processing and technology.”

We are encouraged and hopeful that the leaders of Arizona will review the research, consider the issues surrounding school library services, and will do what is necessary to see that school libraries, teacher librarians and information technology receive adequate and sustained funding.

22. Childcare for a Community (Dewey, AZ) With No Childcare Options

June 8, 2006

We, the undersigned, agree that the lack of childcare in the Dewey/Humboldt Arizona community is of great concern.

Families desiring to utilize childcare services must drive 25+ minutes to towns outside the community. In recognizing uprising gas prices, this places an unwelcome burden on many single parent families. Due to lack of commercial properties available, currently there are no options for placing a childcare facility in the Dewey/Humboldt town.

LadyBug Child Care Center would like to rezone 1851 E Prescott Dells Road, to a Residential Service Zone, which would allow for a small child care center to be placed in a residential home. This home is positioned in an area with little housing and many vacant lots. Only two surrounding homes are inhabited. The Zoning Commission has the ability to remove this critical burden by simply rezoning this property.

Not only would this offer childcare to the town of Dewey/Humboldt, but also the towns of Mayer and Cherry, which currently lack in childcare services as well. Please help us lift this burden to so many families.

Though this sounds like a relatively small request to support, many families are affected by this small petition. Your signatures and support are greatly appreciated.
