Category: Human Rights
Region: United Kingdom
Target: British Minister of State
Background (Preamble):
Zimbabwe pensions are being withheld and are now open to confiscation.
Since Independence the Zimbabwe dollar has devalued to the point where pensions have become almost worthless, and since October 2001 the Zimbabwean government has blamed "lack of foreign currency" for its inability to remit pensions to ex-residents.
The impact upon the old and frail has been incalculable.

Petition:
We, the undersigned, earnestly and respectfully request that payment of pension entitlements to ex-residents of Zimbabwe be made a condition of any future aid procedures, and paid at the historic rate of Z$2 to 1 pound Sterling.
These pensions are being withheld and are now open to confiscation; this is a grievous wrong begging for redress.
