* The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) removed this Steel Truss bridge from SR 44 in Shelby County because it was considered obsolete. The bridge was built in 1940 with a functional lifespan of 40 years and was carrying 4,400 cars per day.

* The Ford Road bridge in Zionsville has a current traffic count of 8,000 cars per day.

* The Steel Truss bridge should not be moved to the Ford Road location, because it is just as narrow as the current bridge and the 90 degree turn will not be removed.

* Previous designs have realigned the 90 degree turn without removing the tunnel of trees. This must be a keystone of any proposed project in the future.

*The Indiana Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on Monday, December 19, 2011, at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the Zionsville Town Hall located at 1100 West Oak Street in Zionsville, Indiana.

Petition --- 96th Street / Ford Road Bridge Project

In order to increase community safety, the 96th Street/Ford Road Bridge Project should include: moving the 96th intersection north away from the bridge; installing a new two lane bridge with generous shoulders; and widening and lessening the 90 degree turn.

We oppose the current bridge project as it does not accomplish these three objectives, and urge the Indiana Department of Transportation and Boone County Commissioners to consider other alternate bridge plans that do.
