In March 2014, a trial was heard at Gloucester Crown court, of Mark Rider, his partner Charlotte Mac and Mr. Rider’s mother who were charged for the racially aggregated attack on the Sheikh Sisters on 28th August 2012.

What was really telling that both the police and local authority refused to treat the sisters as victims and therefore conducted no effective investigation. There is evidence that the racists had support in the police. That’s what happened around the murder of Stephen Lawrence and the way the police treated his friend Duwayne Brooks.

The Crown Prosecution Service has been guilty of the same crime. They agreed that the case would only consider the events on 28th August 2012. Vital evidence, which was available, was not provided for the court that proved the racist nature of the racist campaign and attack. No proper specialist medical assessment of the sisters injuries was organised, the sisters had to provide their own photos of their injuries, taken on their phone.

One by one the sisters had to stand in that racist and hostile court room, over three days in the witness box, fighting to get the truth heard.

The Judge and the CPS representatives allowed the three barristers representing the defendants to abuse the sisters- declaring they were lying; that it was them who attacked the racist gang! Using the concession by the CPS to restrict the case – so it can be taken in isolation, they were attempting to turn the world upside down where the victims become the perpetrators and the perpetrators become the victim! Even the Judge quizzed the sisters of their commitment to the UK.

The Sisters were not even able to view their own court case and were forced to leave the court after they gave their evidence. Requests for them to be accommodated in a safe space in the court, was refused. They were told they could sit in the public gallery (with the racist family & friends) or go home!

Despite the way the case was conducted, because of the sister’s brave fight to get the truth heard, the all-white jury refused to acquit the racists by refusing to issue a verdict.

On the 31st March 2014, The Judge and CPS were forced to order a re- trial which is due to take place at Gloucester Crown Court 29th September 2014.

Zero Tolerance to racist abuse and violence in our cities and communities. We support the Sheikh Sisters in their fight for justice.

These four Asian women living in Gloucester have been subjected to a horrendous campaign of racist abuse by a neighbouring white family and their racist friends that started in 2009. It included besieging the sisters in their house, constant racist abuse and threats to kill.

These sisters continuously reported them to the police and local authorities who took no action. The result was these racists thugs, on 28th August 2012, attacked the sisters in their front gardens, where they were viciously beaten up, leading to one of the sister being hospitalised.

The sisters had to wait for 18 months for their case to come to trial. But due the failures of the police and Crown Prosecution Service, repeating what happened in the Stephen Lawrence case, now have to go through a re-trial starting on 29th September, to get justice.

These sisters are not only heroes to themselves but for all of us.

We will bring our movement into the court room to ensure justice is done.
