Community Mobiliaztion Committee of Youngstown: OUR CHILDREN ARE NOT 4 SALE!
Governor Kasich and local businessmen developed a plan (HR-70) behind closed doors and INTENTIONALLY LEFT OUT PARENTS AND TEACHERS!
While they claim to care about the children, they really want to END PUBLIC EDUCATION!
The plan takes away Youngstown voters right to elect school board members to run the district.
A new commission will be run by the state and they will hire a CEO to run the school system and the CEO DOES NOT NEED TO HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE IN EDUCATION.
THE CEO can DISSOLVE OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND FORCE OUR CHILDREN TO ATTEND LOW PERFORMING CHARTER SCHOOLS, CATHOLIC SCHOOLS, OR OTHER AREA SCHOOL DISTRICTS WITHOUT PROVIDING THEM TRANSPORATION TO GET THERE!
These kinds of backroom dealings are DISRESPECTFUL to our families and community!
Youngstown families, Teachers and Taxpayers should call Gov. Kasich’s office and tell him to work with the families of our children and not behind our backs.

A Petition in Opposition to the “Youngstown Plan” contained in recently amended HB 70.
WHEREAS, the Ohio Legislature recently amended HB-70 to take away local control in the operation of the Youngstown City Schools and,
WHEREAS, this legislation was passed without any opportunity for input or discussion by the Youngstown parents, educators, tax payers, elected officials, or students and
WHEREAS, HB-70 as amended will allow for the elimination of public schools in Youngstown and eventually other struggling urban and rural districts throughout Ohio,
WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, are strongly opposed to HB-70 as amended, and call on the Governor and the Ohio Legislature to immediately repeal or reverse that legislation.
