Gary Sanitary District

United States of America

The Gary Sanitary District has proposed a resolution to privatize garbage pick-up. An outside company, named Allied Waste, will begin garbage pick ups sometime in October of this year. The cost for this service will be $252 a year. $12 a month will be added on to our water bill and an additional $9 a month will come out of our property taxes. Thousands of households are currently without garbage cans. Those without garbage cans will still be forced pay the monthly fee.

Dozens of jobs are also expected to be lost. Many of the current city-employed sanitation workers live in Gary. Allied Waste plans on firing these workers and hiring outsiders to take their jobs.

Privatization is not the answer! It is just another example of how the City of Gary is trying to pass the buck on to YOU!

We, the residents and tax payers of Gary, Indiana, demand that the Gary Sanitary District suspend its resolution to privatize garbage pick-up.

We, the residents and tax payers of Gary, Indiana, demand that the Gary Sanitary District work with General Services to provide garbage cans to those on the waiting list.
