Water Street S.E. is currently the only access street to the four Yacht Clubs, Rowing Club (ACBA) and the two construction sites on Water and M Streets. The width of Water Street is the minimum 18 feet, which is too narrow for the safety of the vested users of the Street.

At a width of 18 feet, it is extremely difficult for two way traffic to safely pass. Water Street is also designated as part of the Riverwalk Trail, which pedestrains, bicyclist and walkers use daily. Fire and emergency vehicles in cases of an emergency can not pass with on coming traffic, with Water Street being only 18 feet wide. The Street is a disaster waiting to happen.

Therefore, we are requesting the District of Columbia Department of Transportation to widen Water Street from its current 18 feet to 24 feet, to provide a safer passage for all traffic and users of Water Street.

We, the stakeholders of "Boathouse Row", formally petition the District of Columbia Department of Transportation to widen Water Street from 18 feet to 24 feet to provide a safer passage for all traffic and users of Water Street.
