STOP CANADIAN NATIONAL CANCER SOCIETY SHUTTING DOWN LOCAL COMMUNITY CANCER SOCIETY OFFICES

The Canadian National Cancer Society /Organization is closing / shutting down all of the local community Cancer Society offices in local communities and smaller city centers telling people they have to use the facilities in their nearest “big” city.
Additionally, they also have cancelled/ stopped the Financial Aid program which was available to help families in need with travel and accommodation expenses when someone in a family had no other option but to travel to a larger city for cancer treatment etc.
The local community Cancer Society offices are where people go – or use to be able to go- for support, comfort, access and assistance with wigs, chemo caps etc. as well as get information – accurate, current and correct information! It has been rumored that the National Cancer Society’s response to families and people’s needs for support and information during a time of crisis with cancer can be taken care of by people using the internet to get help! How many of us have tried to look up information on anything by going on the internet and ended up more confused and misinformed than before we started! When was the last time your internet “comforted” you in a time of great need – either physical or emotional or both!
Additionally, we hear statements to the effect of – “monies are being redirected to research “. This is great for future needs BUT what of the people now, today that need help!
Exactly what does the CEO of the National Cancer society get paid annually to close down and cancel community support centers? Perhaps redirection of some the huge corporate officer’s salaries to research would be more beneficial than shutting down local community offices.
As our society is aging every day and as this has happened we see more and more cases of serious illnesses occurring! Families need more local support offices not less and the National Cancer society needs to do everything they possibly can to support community offices which can offer better, more efficient care, support and information to those in need rather than forcing seriously sick people to travel long distances after waiting in line for weeks if not months and even a year of longer for help!
We the undersigned ask the Canadian Notional Cancer Society to maintain all local and smaller city Canada Cancer Society offices as open and provide continued help, information and support to the public and families in need.
We require all Canada Cancer Society office locations targeted to be closed in the near future to remain open so that those communities can continue to have the much needed support and assistance necessary still available today and in the future!
Finally we want all recently closed centers in the last year to be reopened and the vital community assistance and services they provided to be reestablished and once again be made available to those local communities!
