We Want The Streets of Brentwood

We citizens, residents or business owners of the City of Brentwood care deeply about our community. We support our community, its schools, its neighborhoods, its businesses, and our elected representatives. We live here or work here because the community is dynamic and thriving. Yet we cannot continue to rest on our laurels and hope things continue to remain vibrant while we watch. What we envisioned years ago is almost coming to be realized—a Town Center.

The Streets of Brentwood (the “Streets) is a mixed-use redevelopment project--proposed for the property on the southwest corner of Franklin Road and Maryland Way--will only improve our way of life, provide jobs for our community, keep taxes low, generate revenue for our schools, our city and our state. It is an exciting time in Brentwood. The developers held two community meetings to solicit opinions on the Streets. Consequently, many revisions to the original proposal were made incorporating the feedback received from our community. They listened.

The mixed-use proposal includes retail, a movie theater, residential, a hotel and office space. Currently, zoning on the property permits office use only, with no amenities for the surrounding community. The Streets, however, will be something the entire community can enjoy: shopping, dining, and entertainment in an enjoyable Town Center.

The Planning Commission has approved the redevelopment and it is set for final approval on February 25 by the Board of Commissioners at their 7:00 p.m. meeting. This project is worthy of our support. Realization of this project comes at a critical juncture for our community—we either stagnate or prepare for smart growth. As we can all agree, we cannot afford to remain still and let the voices of a vocal minority derail yet another development for Brentwood.
