UNAFFILIATED CANDIDATES NOMINATION BY PETITION

Dear Neighbor,

My name is James Mathis and I am trying to run for the North Carolina State House of Representatives from our district 49. I say “trying” because I am not yet on the official ballot. The reason for this is that I am running as an Independent, with no party affiliation. I decided to do this simply because I feel that to label myself strictly a “Republican” or a “Democrat” would be unfair to you, the voter. However, I have to work twice as hard as my party affiliated opponents for my decision. North Carolina state law requires that an unaffiliated candidate gather four percent (4%) of his district’s registered voters just to be on the ballot. In our 49th district, this amounts to exactly: 2,667 signatures.

This is where I need your help! Please have everyone in your family that is a registered voter sign the petition to have James Mathis appear on the ballot this November.

I wish I could have talked to you in person, but the sheer number of signatures that the State requires have made this virtually impossible.
