Due to countless encounters with vehicles excessively speeding on Edgefield Avenue, a group of neighbors are asking the City of Dallas to erect traffic deterrent measures on North Edgefield Avenue between Green Street and Davis Street, assess any additional traffic signage needs for particularly dangerous intersections, and provide better street lighting along this stretch of our street.

As many of our neighbors are aware, Edgefield is used not only for DART bus traffic but also is a speeding corridor for vehicle thru traffic presenting dangerous situations to our loved ones. As noticed, the road humps installed north of Green Street slows down the street vehicle traffic in this area.

The vehicle traffic, as well as DART bus traffic, noticeably picks up increased speed when leaving this traffic detoured zone while traveling through our section of Edgefield Avenue. There have been many dangerous occurrences in our noted span of Edgefield with the speeding vehicle traffic and pedestrian activity, children at play, and neighborhood pets which now demand attention for added safety measures.

To add to this increased speed, there are a few danger spots along the noted stretch of Edgefield which need additional attention. The Taft at Edgefield intersection is at a bend and also has an alley crossing with a pedestrian marked crossing. This area is confusing to oncoming traffic and pedestrians alike and presents a danger to the school children coming from Rosemont Elementary. The Ranier at Edgefield intersection does not have designated stop signs for the Edgefield thru traffic which compounds the problem of the speeding vehicles accelerating through this straight run of Edgefield Avenue.

We are asking for road humps along Edgefield Avenue at these suggested locations: 1. Located approximately 200 ft north of Kings Highway at Edgefield Park and noted DART bus stop, 2. Located 100 ft south of Taft (along with a traffic engineer’s determination of traffic safety needs for this intersection), and 3. Mid-block between Ranier Street and Davis Street (many family pets have frequently been in accidents in this area especially). We believe the installation of road humps and added lighting to our street will help with the visibility and slowing of speeding traffic through our neighborhood and help return a feeling of security to our families.

Our desired outcome is to have the City of Dallas recognize this dangerous situation and provide the requested traffic and lighting devices for the safety of our neighborhood and children.

We, the undersigned, are respectfully asking the City of Dallas to erect at least 3 road humps on North Edgefield Avenue between Green Street and Davis Street and provide 2 additional standard street lights along this section of street.

This portion of Edgefield is used not only for the DART bus traffic but also is a noted school zone for Rosemont Elementary. Traffic control devices (road humps) have been installed north of Green Street along Edgefield Avenue and, as designed, slows down the street vehicle traffic in this area. The vehicle traffic, as well as DART bus traffic, noticeably picks up increased speed, observed well above marked speed limits, when leaving this traffic detoured zone. There have been many dangerous occurrences in our noted span of Edgefield with the speeding vehicle traffic and our pedestrian activity, children at play, and neighborhood pets which now demands attention.

A couple of intersections in particular are presenting a dangerous traffic situation which demands immediate attention. The intersection of Taft Street at Edgefield Avenue intersects at a teed point along a major curve in Edgefield (approximately 30 deg) and also has approaches for two alleys. This current situation creates confusion for the speeding vehicles and pedestrians, and is compounded with having limited visibility for all. Due to this intersection being a major pedestrian route for the Rosemont Elementary children and a complicated traffic intersection without proper signage, we need the City of Dallas to assess this area and provide needed traffic deterrents (road humps, proper signage or signaling). The Ranier Street at Edgefield Avenue intersection does not have designated stop signs for the Edgefield thru traffic which compounds the problem of the speeding vehicles accelerating through this straight run of Edgefield Avenue. We need the City of Dallas to assess this area and provide needed stop signs for a proper 4 way designated stop intersection.

We are asking for two additional street lights to be placed along Edgefield Avenue to aid in the limited visibility along with speeding thru traffic at night. We respectfully request additional street lights to be placed at mid-block points between Taft and Ranier, and Ranier and Davis.

Specific locations of the noted (approximately 3) road humps along Edgefield Avenue are suggested as follows: 1. Located approximately 200 ft north of Kings Highway at Edgefield Park and noted DART bus stop, 2. Located 100 ft south of Taft along with a traffic engineer’s determination of traffic safety needs for the above noted area, and 3. Mid-block of Ranier Street and Davis Street. We believe the installation of road humps will help deter speeding traffic through our neighborhood and help return a feeling of security to our families.

Our desired outcome is to have the City of Dallas recognize this dangerous situation and provide the requested number of road humps and any other needed traffic devices for the safety of our neighborhood and children.
