Mr WH Diener bought a shop in 1989. This shop was called Maskam Supermarket. Throughout the last 26 years he has been creating job opportunities for several families in Klawer. In a small population, he was one of the main entrepreneurs giving families an income and also a supermarket where they could daily buy everything they need.
In August 2015 a fire caused the whole building to collapse and since then Mr Diener was adamant to build a new better shop for the community and also for his employees. Klawer is a small community as already mentioned. More than 35 families get an income from working at Mr Diener's shop.
The municipality is now not extending their hand in good faith to Mr Diener because they want him to build 35 parking spaces excluding the existing 18 parking spaces. This equals to 53 parking spaces which is far fetched for Klawer. On rare occasions all 18 existing parking spaces was all occupied, now they want 35 more...? Where will Klawer get all the clients to fill these parking spaces? Won't it be more intelligent for Mr Diener to utilise the money he would have spend on all those parking spaces for more job creation in a country and area where it is so much needed?
More than 35 families will be without income because the municipality wants 35 parking spaces. Which is more important?...35 families earning a living and a community with an supermarket or 35 parking spaces?
We as the community feel that there is efficient parking infront of the shop. Mr Diener is willing and able to build 10 more parking spaces. Please consider his willingness.
If the municipality do not consider the money Mr Diener already spend to create jobs and the foot count of Klawer, more than 35 families will be without income.
Is this what our government wants? More people without jobs?
We, the undersigned, call on the Matzikama Municipality to consider granting a temporary trading license for OK Grocer Klawer for the sake of the whole community.
