San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox
Region:
United States of America

The San Diego County Parks and Recreation Dept. is planning on funding the construction of a public trail through Sweetwater Farms making access to the county trail system for one person. This trail has no possibility of serving additional people in the future.

The cost of this trail is a miss-use of funds that should instead be used for the much-needed improvement of trails in the immediate area. The trail will also create negative safety issues for Sweetwater Farms and Winners Circle Equestrian Therapy. This trail would prohibit Sweetwater Farms from securing their facility, leaving them vulnerable to problems they have experienced in the past; drug deals, theft, transient camps, molestation of horses, death of horses resulting from molestation and a homicide.

This trail would create a financial hardship for a community valued horse business. The hardship would negatively impact Sweetwater’s public horseback riding business, which allows for over 2500 children and adults to enjoy the San Diego County Trails every year.

We, the undersigned (horse person of legal age), are opposed to the proposed trail that the San Diego County Parks and Recreation Dept. is planning to put though Sweetwater Farms located at 3051 Equitation Lane Bonita, CA 91902 for the following reasons.

1. This trail will create an un-safe riding and activity environment for the students and campers at Sweetwater Farms and Winners Circle Equestrian Therapy.

2. This trail would prohibit Sweetwater Farms from securing their facility, leaving them vulnerable to problems they have experienced in the past; drug deals, theft, transient camps, molestation of horses, death of horses resulting from molestation and a homicide. Sweetwater needs to secure their facility.

3. The cost of constructing this trail is a miss-use of county funds. This trail would serve one person without the possibility of serving any additional people in the future. We want funds to go towards improving the trails east of the western gateway.

4. This trail would create a financial hardship for a community valued horse business. The hardship would negatively impact Sweetwater’s public horseback riding business, which allows for over 2500 children and adults to enjoy the San Diego County Trails every year.
